If you are a graduating high school senior, and would like to receive the Noonan Scholarship offered by St. Matthew, please write a letter
addressed to Fr. Kevin. The letter must contain the name of the high school you currently attend, that you are a supporting member of this parish, a promise to continue an education beyond high school within the next six months, mention of the school or program you are planning to attend, and your full name, address and telephone number. The letter must be submitted to the church office by June 10th.
BLOOD DRIVE RESULTS: The Knights of Columbus would like to thank the volunteer donors and all others who supported the May 13, 2018 blood
drive in any way. LifeSouth reports that there were 25 actual donors and two deferred donors. We look forward to an even better turnout at the next drive in August.

40th Anniversary
About fifty families lived in the Fairburn area in 1975. There was a Catholic Church in every direction from Fairburn. A group of local Catholics met in Joe Stretch's living room to discuss how to get a Catholic Church in Fairburn. Someone wrote a letter to the Archbishop asking if he would build a church in Fairburn. He an-swered that there was no way he could do it. About five months later the old Bishop and Poe funeral home went up for sale. I believe the asking price was about $130,000.00. We bought it.
The interior of the building was a dump, but it had a chapel, office, a two-bedroom apartment, a kitchen complete with a drain in the middle of the floor, and a few class rooms. A lot of repairs and cleaning had to be done before we could occupy the building. When the repairs were completed, I met with the fire chief at the church, so he could inspect the place to make sure it was ready to occupy. Everything passed except having a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. We had to place it on the wall outside the doorway. Just before he left, we were standing outside when the fire chief shook his head and said, "I don't believe it. A Catholic Church right smack dab in the middle of a Protestant city. 30 years ago, there were folks around here who would have burned the place down before allowing a Catholic Church to set up shop in Fairburn." I reported this to the Parish council, and when we voted for a church name, it had to be one that every Christian knew. We picked St. Matthew after the first gospel writ-er.

La Santísma Trinidad
Hoy celebramos nuestra fe en un Dios en tres Personas que se revelan en la historia de la sal-vación como Creador, Redentor y Santificador. En la lectura del libro del Deuteronomio, el au-tor sagrado coloca en los labios de Moisés, aclamaciones que apuntan al Dios del cielo y tierra, que ha hecho maravillas a un pueblo es-cogido para su misión. El Evangelio de san Ma-teo nos muestra la fuerza del Padre en Jesús, el Hijo Amado, que envía a sus discípulos a bauti-zar y a enseñar todo cuanto él les ha enseñado. Por otro lado, san Pablo en la segunda lectura afirma que por ser hijos e hijas de Dios todos estamos guiados por el Espíritu Santo que he-mos recibido en el bautismo. Una buena refle-xión sobre estas lecturas puede motivar a que los ministros litúrgicos aprovechen los textos de hoy para enfatizar la comunión trinitaria que, como misterio de entrega y de acogida, se revela ante todos a diario, para que hagamos lo mismo en el acontecer de nuestro testimonio de vida. Por ello, la música escogida, las oracio-nes de los fieles, las moniciones y, sobre todo, la homilía, han de recalcar de qué manera po-demos vivir la comunión de la Trinidad en nues-tra familia de fe, la Iglesia.
The Most Holy Trinity
Today, we celebrate our faith in one God in three Persons, revealed in the history of salvation as creator, redeemer, and sanctifier. In the reading from the Book of Deuteronomy, the sacred author places on the lips of Moses acclamations of praise to our God of heaven and earth, who has done marvelous things for the people chosen to be his own. The text of the Gospel of Saint Matthew reveals the Father’s power in Jesus, who sends his disciples to baptize and to teach all peoples as he has taught them. In today’s Second Reading, Saint Paul’s letter confirms that those who are children of God by baptism are always guided by the Holy Spirit. A good reflection over these Trinitarian readings should inspire the selection of music and prayers of the faithful, so that the theme of Trinitarian communion and self-surrender revealed to all may teach the community of faith to do the same in our daily lives. We must become the same communion of love for others in our family in faith, the Church.
