$1000 can be yours!! The Knights of Columbus Council 8972 will sell raffle tickets for a $1000 Kroger Card in the Narthex Sept 7/8 and 14/15 and at the picnic Sept 22. Or, ask any Knight if they would sell
you tickets early.
The annual Knights of Columbus (KOC) Soccer Challenge will be held Sept 22 during the Parish picnic. Boys and girls ages 9-14 may compete. Come out and demonstrate your

Parish Novena is Approaching! The parish novena will begin on Saturday, September 14th. Apart from the regular Sunday masses, there will be mass at 7pm every day of the week as part of the
novena which will concluded on the feast of St. Matthew on Sunday, September 22nd at the Parish Picnic!
Side Dish Tree
In preparing for the feast of St. Matthew, the parish picnic and the 40th anniversary
celebration, we will have a sign-up tree in the narthex beginning September 7th. The
sign-up tree is for signing up for a side to bring to the parish picnic. Please pick one after the masses beginning next weekend.
There will be a pie contest during this years parish picnic as part of the 40th anniversary celebration! Share your talent and register in

The Knights of Columbus
Goals & Purpose: The Knights of Columbus is a worldwide Catholic fraternal men’s organization comprised of 14,000 Councils and close to 1.9 million members. The principles of the Order are: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. Our purpose is to support our pastor, various parish minis-tries, the surrounding community and other worthy global outreach programs.
Responsibilities: We provide assistance for Church events, such as the Church Picnic, Fall Festival, Haiti Fundraiser, etc. and help with facility maintenance. Our first principle is Charity; in order to financially support worthy charitable causes, we conduct fundraisers such as Pancake Break-fasts, Lenten Fish Frys, Keep Christ in Christmas Cards, Fudge Sales, Derby Day, St. Patrick’s Day Party, etc.
Time Commitment: There is no set amount of time re-quired, however, more involvement leads to greater per-sonal satisfaction knowing your efforts are helping our parish and those in need. Our monthly Business Meeting is held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month; a social “get-together” is held on the 4th Tuesday of the month. We ask all Knights to help out and participate in our fundraising events.
Training Requirement: The K of C is open to men at least 18 years of age who are practicing Catholics in union with the Holy See. Anyone interested in joining can approach any Knight or contact the leader.
The Knights will be in the Narthex on the weekend of September 14th for more information.

Metas y Propósito: Los Caballeros de Colón es una organi-zación mundial de hombres fraternos católicos compuesta por 14,000 consejos y cerca de 1.9 millones de miembros. Nuestro propósito es apoyar a nuestro pas-tor, varios ministerios parroquiales, la comunidad circun-dante y otros valiosos programas de alcance global.

FAITH FORMATION FORMACION DE FE
Ninguno de nosotros hace un largo viaje sin prepararse y planificar con anticipación. Nos aseguramos de tener un mapa y direcciones para el viaje por delante. Calculamos cuánto nos costará y nos sentamos a ver a todos los involu-crados en el viaje por delante. Hacemos nuestro mejor esfuerzo para estar preparados para cualquier evento no planificado en el camino. No partimos mal equipados o sin preparación.
La invitación de Jesús siempre me sigue, y la decisión de seguir sus pasos no debe tomarse a la ligera. Jesús deja esto muy claro al comienzo del Evangelio de los domingos cuando explica el costo de ser su discípulo, si alguien viene a mí
sin odiar a su padre y madre, esposa, hijos, hermanos y hermanas e incluso su propia vida, ellos ¡no puede ser mi discípulo! ”Jesús dice que tenemos que resolverlo por nosotros mismos para ver si tene-mos lo que se necesita para vivir con las demandas de ser su segui-dor. Esto significa que primero tenemos que descubrir cuánto nos costará ser un seguidor de Jesús, y luego decidir si tenemos la en-ergía y los recursos para cubrir ese costo. ¿El costo de ser un discípulo de Jesús? ¡Todo lo que tenemos y somos! ¿La recompen-sa de ser un discípulo? ¡Todo lo que Dios tiene y es!
El peligro es que si estamos demasiado preocupados y preocupa-dos por el costo de seguir a Jesús, en primer lugar, nunca po-dríamos emprender este camino. Nos costará mucho, de hecho todo. Pero ya hemos comenzado este viaje en nuestro bautismo. La recompensa no tiene precio; la plenitud de la vida que comienza aquí y ahora y que heredaremos plenamente en la vida. Comen-zamos este viaje de ser el discípulo de Jesús en la fe, pero no por nuestra cuenta. La primera lectura del Libro de la Sabiduría nos dice que se nos da el don de la sabiduría y el Espíritu Santo para guiarnos y guiarnos en nuestro viaje. El desafío, entonces, no es mirar el costo, sino mantener nuestros ojos en Jesús que camina con nosotros y nos muestra el camino. En fe y esperanza, entonces, tomemos nuestra cruz y sigamos a donde Jesús nos lleva.

None of us take a long trip without preparing and planning ahead. We make sure we have a map and directions for the journey ahead. We work out how much it will cost us and we sit down to see what’s involved in the journey ahead. We do our best to be prepared for any unplanned events along the way. We don’t set out ill-equipped or unprepared.
The invitation from Jesus is always follow me, and the decision to follow in his footsteps is not one to be taken lightly. Jesus makes this very clear right at the beginning of this Sundays gospel when he spells out the cost of being his disciple, if anyone comes to me without hating their father and mother, wife, children, brothers and sister and even his own life, they cannot be my disciple!’ Jesus tells that we have to work it out for ourselves to see if we have what it takes to live with demands of being his follower. This means that first we have to figure out what being a follower of Jesus will cost us, and then decide whether we have the energy and resources to meet that cost. The cost of being a disciple of Jesus? Everything we have and are! The reward of being a disciple? Everything God has and is!
The danger is that if we are overly worried and concerned about the cost of following Jesus, we might never set out on this path in the first place. It will cost us much, everything in fact. But we have already started on this journey at our baptism. The reward is priceless; the fullness of life which begins here and now and which we will inherit fully in the life to come. We begin this journey of being the disciple of Jesus in faith, but not on our own. The first reading from the Book of Wisdom tells that we are given the gift of wisdom and the Holy Spirit to guide and lead us on our journey. The challenge, then, is not to look at the cost, but to keep our eyes on Jesus who is walking with us showing us the way. In faith and hope, then, let us take up our cross and follow where Jesus lead us.
