Scripture Small Groups We invite you to join a Scripture Small Group this Fall and carve out more time in your life for God. Our Scripture Groups explore the Scriptures together with other Parishioners, under the guidance of trained Small Group leaders. Small Groups provide a time for you to learn more about God, and learn more about yourself. They reinforce that you are not alone during this time of Pandemic. They let your
voice be heard, and help create bonds with Parishioners just like you. Scripture Groups encourage you through your struggles, and give a voice to what is in inside. You will be heard. Jesus tells us that wherever 2 or 3 are gathered in His name, He is there with us. When we read the Bible and consider how awesome it is that God is active in our lives, Scripture Groups will help unearth the meaning of our lives, and God’s mission for us. Christmas in August? Not exactly, but it is time to plan and prepare for the Christmas Fair at St. Andrew Church to benefit St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish. The Christmas Fair, which will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, has been a fun community event, as well as a significant fundraiser in past years. We look forward to hosting the Christmas Fair again af-ter a year of absence, but we need a few people to help make this happen. If you are interested in helping, contact Fran at

What is Stewardship? Jesus preached about being a good steward, and the Bible inter-prets stewardship as giving back to God the fruits of our labors, about caring for the possessions that God has entrusted to us.
First let’s look at the word, steward. The word, steward, translates in Greek as (pronounced “oikonomon”). This word most closely correlates in English to manager. As we are familiar with – a man-ager is someone who is given the responsibility to take care of something on behalf of someone else. Everything we have is a gift from God and we are asked to return a portion of those gifts in gratitude for all we have. Stewardship is about how we care for the possessions that God has entrusted to us. Steward-ship calls us to nurture our relationships with God, our families, our church, our workplace, our environ-ment, our suffering neighbors, and our world. Stewardship is also a personal response to the Gospel call to conversion of mind and heart. Stewardship is a faith response to share all we have and thus participate fully in God's plan for our world. God is the source of all we have and are, and we can learn to see ourselves as caring in the work of God by the way we live, by the way we use our time, talents and financial resources. Stewardship is also a per-sonal response to the Gospel call to conversion of mind and heart. We can share spiritually (by attending Mass, praying regularly, attending parish faith groups), sharing our talents (volunteering in the parish), and sharing our treasure (by contributing to the parish through giving). Stewardship is a way of life. The primary rewards of stewardship are always personal – both with God and our neighbors. Going forward we will continue to explore the path of stewardship here at St. Matthew Parish each week. Part of stewardship is continuing to broaden our knowledge of God and His church. "As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace" (1 Peter 4:10)

New Online Giving Platform for St. Matthew the Evangelist We have chosen a new online giving platform – Stripe that will equip St. Mat-thew Parish with all the necessary tools to provide safe, secure, convenient transactions for all using your bank account or a debit/credit card. We are transitioning from 3 different platforms and are excited to present a straight-forward, seamless approach to online giving. Why? To provide all with a bet-ter user experience with one platform (as opposed to 3) and cut administra-tive fees associated with multiple platforms.
Over the next month or so, we invite new and current online givers to take a look at this new platform at https://billericacatholicgiving.sites.bostoncatholic.org/form/payment-form?fid=4351 . The platform is “LIVE”, as we began with a soft rollout to families who are registering for Faith Formation. You have the ability to set up a one-time donation or recurring donation, and select the fund/collection you would like to con-tribute to. The current platforms are still available, and will continue to be during this time of transition. Current donors will be receiving an email in the next couple of weeks with information on the new plat-form. STAY TUNED for more information as we continue to familiarize all with this new platform. The Courageous Catholic Wom-en meeting will be held on Mon-day, September 13 @ 7:00pm at St. Andrew Church. The topic for the Sep-
tember meeting will be “Community”. The meeting will conclude with Adoration and Benediction in the church. Masks must be worn at all times inside the building. We look forward to coming together with others as we strive to be “Courageous Catho-lic Women”, and we welcome all interested women to join us on the journey. St. Paul’s Soup Kitchen Ministry The St. Paul’s Soup Kitchen Ministry feeds over 120 of our neighbors on the third Friday of every month. Volunteers are always welcomed and can help with whatever part of the ministry they are able to: cooking, buying groceries, or serving the meal. It is time to register for faith formation for our chil-dren, youth, teens and their families. What is the Mass?Liturgy of the Word: When we gather at a friend’s home for a meal, we always begin with conversation, telling our stories. At Mass, after the Rites of Gathering, we sit down and listen as Readings from Scripture [The Word of God] are pro-claimed. They are stories of God’s people through time.
Readings: On Sundays there are three readings from the Bible. The First Read-ing will be from Hebrew Scriptures. (except during the Time of Easter) We recall the origins of our covenant. It will relate to the Gospel selection and will give back-ground and an insight into the meaning of what Jesus will do in the Gospel. Then we will sing a Psalm- a song from God’s own inspired hymnal, the Book of Psalms of
the Hebrew Bible. The Second Reading will usually be from one of the letters of Saint Paul or another apostolic writing. The Third Reading is from one of the Gospel Writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.
Some visitors to the Catholic Mass are surprised to find us reading from the Bible! We have not gener-ally been famous for our Bible readings, and yet the Mass has always been basically and fundamentally biblical. Even some Catholics might be surprised to learn how much of the Mass is taken from the Bible. Not only the three Readings and Psalm, not only the obviously Biblical prayers such as the Holy, Holy, Holy and Lord’s Prayer, but most of the words and phrases of the prayers of the Mass are taken from the Bible.

St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive- UPDATE Due to the ongoing rise in COVID cases, particularly in the town of Billerica, the previously scheduled monthly food drive sponsored by St. Vincent de Paul has been CANCELED. At this time they are unable to accept food donations, however; there is an even greater need at this time to supply those in need with food, clothing and utilities assistance. Parishioners are encouraged to continue to support St. Vincent de Paul and those in need by donating financially. Donations can be made out to St. Vincent de Paul and put in the collection baskets found at the entrances of all 3 churches or can be mailed to the Parish Office.
