First Sunday of Lent 1) Genesis 9:8-15 2) 1 Peter 3:18-22 3) Mark 1:12-15 FOCUS: The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the Gospel. These sound like simple words from our short Gospel today. But it is fitting that Jesus begins his earthly ministry with this powerful message after the Spirit descended upon him at his baptism. He asks us to believe in the Gospel and embrace its message of humble service and discipleship. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the reading from Genesis, God establishes a covenant with Noah, declaring the rainbow as the reminder to all his people. In the second reading, we hear that the eight who had been saved by the water in the story of Noah prefigure our baptism which saves us now. In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus begins his Galilean ministry by proclaiming the need to re-pent and believe. _____________________________________________________

CCONFIRMATION CHANGES

We have been informed by the Archdiocese that Arch-bishop Chaput has announced that beginning in the

Fall of 2018 the Age of a candidate for the Sacrament of Confirmation will be 7th and/or 8th Grade or 7th

and/or 8th Level Prep. Because of this, the Confirma-tion Schedule for St. Monica Parish will be 7th Grade students and 7th Level Prep students will receive Con-firmation in the Spring of 2020. Parish Confirmation

will not be celebrated in 2019 in St. Monica Parish. Any questions, call Deacon Leonard at 215-334-1659.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL

This year the Archdiocese celebrates the 60th anniver-sary of the Catholic Charities Appeal. Over the years thousands have been assisted by your generosity. This

year our parish goal is $35,000. Please make every effort to make a donation to this worthy appeal. You can drop your donation marked “Catholic Charities” at the rectory or in the collection basket. We will see

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION - MONTH 5

Your spiritually adopted baby weighs over one pound now and his mother can feel his movement.

Before this time, he was too small for her to feel. Although he swam with ease in his wa-

tery world, he needed to be big and strong enough to kick hard against the outside wall and dent it...the inside wall of the uterus has little feeling. We are

midway through the pregnancy now. Your prayers have helped your baby’s mother continue her preg-

nancy and seek the help she needs.

Please pray daily: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the un-born baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in

danger of abortion.

PRO-LIFE BOTTLE DRIVE

This weekend, the St. Monica Knights of Columbus will begin its annual fund raiser to benefit the Legacy of Life Foundation. Baby bottles will be available after Masses this weekend. Bottles should be returned in 2 weeks (February 17th and 18th). Over the last two years our parish has raised over $10,000 for this pro-life initiative. Your continued

support is genuinely appreciated.

DESIGNER BAG BINGO

Saint Monica 8th Grade is sponsoring a Designer Bag Bingo on Saturday, March 10th,

in St. Monica’s Gym. Doors will open at 6 PM; Bingo will begin at 7 PM.

The cost is $30 per ticket. Cost includes 8 game cards.

Extra game sheets sets are available to purchase at the door.

Reserve your tickets now for a night of fun! We will provide water, soft drinks, coffee, tea and

dessert. Please feel free to bring your own food and adult beverages.

For more information, contact Nina Forman, 215-285-0182 or [email protected].

Thank you for supporting this fundraiser!
