Oh Most Holy Trinity! Undivided Unity! Oh Holy God! Mighty God! God Immortal be adored!
Page 2 Solemnity of The Most Holy Trinity Dear Friends in Christ,
This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Blessed Trinity, the revealed mystery that there are three persons (Father, Son and the Holy Spirit) in one God. These persons, not to be con-fused with people, though distinct, are however equal in every respect. Even though the word trinity is not in the bible it is however how God revealed himself in the scriptures. Jesus’ statement “The Father and I are One,” among others, is one example of this enlightening. Each time we sign ourselves with the cross, beginning at baptism, any celebration of the sacraments, the liturgy of the church and our personal prayers, we invoke the power of the Triune God. It is a profound and infinite mystery that
cannot be completely exhausted by our finite human comprehension, but is real nonetheless and consistent with divine revelation.
Next Sunday, June 18th, is Corpus Christi (Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ), in which we celebrate our unique belief that Jesus is really present in the Eucharist with His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. Our traditional pro-cession with Jesus in the Eucharist, through our immediate neighborhood, will begin at the conclusion of the 11:00AM Mass, ending at Veteran’s Park. We will ask Him to bless our parish and community. Our Parish Picnic will commence at conclusion of the procession. Please join your parish family, because the family that prays together, plays together.
Now that we are operating on a summer schedule, as we have done in the past few years, the space for this weekly col-umn will be used for brief moments of Church/Faith teachings. This year we will focus on the Sacraments. Please stay tuned. Enjoy your summer.
In Christ,
Fr. Godwin
Before we can talk about the sacraments, let’s review what a sacrament is. According to the Church, a sacrament is “An outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace.”
The outward sign of the sacrament has two parts: the “thing” itself that is used (water, oil, bread, and so on) and the words or gestures that give significance to what is being done.
Instituted by Christ because no human power could attach an inward grace (a closer relationship to God) to an out-ward sign. Only God can do that.
The purpose of the sacraments is to make people holy, to build up the body of Christ, and to give worship to God. But as signs, they also have a teaching function. They not only presuppose faith, by words and object, they also nourish, strengthen, and express it: that is why they are called “Sacraments of Faith.” While the sacraments impart grace, the very act of celebrating them disposes the faithful to receive the grace in a fruitful manner - to worship God rightly, and to practice charity.
A sacrament gives the grace it signifies. It is effective not by reason of the power of intercession of priestly prayer nor on account of the worthiness of the recipient, but solely by the power of Christ. The power of Christ lives in the sacraments. The effect of the sacrament is independent of the sinfulness or unworthiness of the minister. But, our attitude does matter. Faith matters. Our interior dispositions have an effect on our relationship with God through grace. The more perfect our sorrow in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the deeper our love in receiving the Holy Eucharist, the more lively and sincere our faith in receiving Confirmation, then the stronger our relationship with God will be. Our rela-tionship with God, called grace, like all our other relationships is a two-way street.
There are seven sacraments. They were instituted by Christ and given to the Church to administer. The sacraments are categorized into three groupings:
• Sacraments of Initiation - Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation • Sacraments of Healing - Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick • Sacraments of Service - Holy Orders and Marriage
There is a “character” imprinted on the soul by the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders. In these sac-raments the anointing with Chrism Oil is a symbol of this mark or seal. We are marked as belonging to Christ, and noth-ing will ever change that. These marks are a permanent alteration in the soul that will forever be visible to God, the an-gels and the saints. The permanent character of Baptism gives us the power to absorb the grace of the other six sacra-ments and participate in the Mass. The character of Confirmation gives us the power to profess the faith fearlessly and to spread the faith. The character of Holy Orders gives the priest the power to celebrate Mass and to administer the oth-er sacraments.
Next week: Sacrament of Baptism

Thanks to the generosity of our St. Patrick Knight of Columbus Council #16446, we have a new resource for our families. You will find a new Kiosk in the vestibule with a series of small books that will help you to live out the Church’s mis-sion and vision for your fami-lies—the domestic Church which in turn will strengthen our parish life. Topics include: parenting, fatherhood, family prayer life as well as two of St. John Paul II’s famous messages for families - Letter to Fami-lies and The Family in the Modern World. These books are offered to you by the Knights at no cost to thank you for the support you have provided to them in the creation of our own St. Patrick council.

2017/2018 Mission Trip
Reading Glasses Needed
In December, several team members will again be heading to Nigeria for a Mission Trip. On this upcoming mission trip, 10-12 health screening clinics are scheduled to be held in rural villages. There is a great need for reading glasses. Last year due to your
generosity we were able to provide glasses to about 400 villagers but there are always many more requests for help than glasses available. There is a container in the narthex (on the table by the Kiosks) to collect glasses in preparation for this year’s trip (beginning December 28th). Thank you in advance for your generosity.
ImaBridge Africa is also asking you to consider recycling your bicy-cle (only usable bikes please).
Bikes will help provide transportation to jobs, school and medical appointments.
Think of the impact a bicycle will have on the life of a child who walks 3-4 miles to school every single day.
Bicycles can be dropped off during the following times: Saturday:3:00PM-5:00PM Jun. 24, Jul. 15, Jul. 29, Aug. 12, Aug. 19, Sep. 9 Sunday: 7:30AM-12:00PM Jun. 25, Jul. 16, Jul. 30, Aug. 13, Aug. 20, Sep. 10

Excess (Shortage) ($3,249) Vocation Corner:
The Trinity as an Analogy
I think that a lot of priests around the world feel a little like I do on Trinity Sunday. I’m excited to talk about the greatest thing ever, yet at the same time I know that I can never do the topic justice because my lim-ited human mind cannot even begin to fathom the immen-sity of God’s greatness nor the depth of the relationship that exists between the Father and the Son as well as the love between them which is the Holy Spirit. So there is always a mix of joy tempered with a feeling like I can never quite nail down all that I want to say that I find in my heart.
In a way I think that this is exactly how one feels when they begin to discover their big picture vocation. You see, when I really started discerning the priesthood I was excit-ed, yet at the same time I felt like I didn’t know for sure, and I felt like I couldn’t fully grasp everything about this vocation that I felt called to. The reason why I couldn’t per-fectly nail down everything that was going on in my heart and my soul is because God’s plan is so amazing that it’s simply too big to grasp in a single moment! The same thing is frequently true when one is on the verge of getting engaged – the love between the two is palpable, yet it is impossible to articulate everything going on within one’s heart. So if you feel a tug towards priesthood, religious life, or marriage, but can’t quite figure it all out, don’t be afraid, rather, know that this is completely normal. Buckle up and enjoy the ride – and if you’ve already been enjoying the ride for some time, make sure to give thanks to God for all that He has given you!
Homeless for over a year and struggling now that PADS has closed for the season, a middle-age man reached out to St. Vincent de Paul for
assistance. Although PADS gave out tents for those willing to camp, this gentleman was too tall and his feet stuck out of the tent. SVDP shopped for a longer tent, sleeping bag, tarp and flashlight to allow this man the dig-nity and comfort of right-sized camping supplies. Bags of food and prayers of support and compassion gave this man the nourishment he needed to approach the summer season. Matthew 7:12 “So whatever you wish that oth-ers would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
