translated Peter).
Page 2 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time In the Gospel, for the 2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time, we hear Jesus say to two disciples of John the Baptizer, “What are you looking for?” That is a great question for all of us. What really are we looking for? Jesus’ answer was, “come and see.” He incites us all to open our hearts to His love, to hear His words and to come and see the light of the world and follow Jesus. When we do that, we become His disciples and learn from Him. A disciple of Jesus lives with mystery, walks in faith and knows he is loved and not alone.
Sometimes our spiritual batteries get low and like our car batteries we need a new spark, a boost or a “recharge” of our spiritual energy. Our Lent mission is called just that, “Recharge”, led by popular radio hot and motivational speaker, Pat-rick Coffin on Tuesday, February 20th from 7pm-9pm. If you need a recharge, Patrick Coffin in the spiritual battery charger you need. I first met Patrick as host of Catholic An-swers Radio Show. I met him in person a couple of years ago on Pilgrimage in Ireland in 2014. After touring Dublin, a few of us stopped in a pub for dinner near Trinity University. Patrick decided to evangelize some college students and said, “watch this.” He started out doing some simple magic tricks that entertained and amazed the students near us. After 25-30 students gathered around our table he stopped and asked people about their faith and told them about Jesus and Catholicism. He answered Jesus’ question to those students, “what are you looking for?” Faith in Jesus! Then like Jesus, Patrick invited them all to “come and see.” Come and see Jesus on Catholic Answers Radio Show. Come and see Jesus at Church. Come and see what you are looking for. Come and see what we are looking for. Bring your family, bring your friends, bring skeptics and people who have been away from church for awhile. You will be entertained. You will be inspired. Better yet, you will be “Recharged” in your faith. Join us Tuesday, February 20th from 7-9pm. See details on page 4 in today’s bulletin. Yours in Christ, Deacon Dennis Holian

2017 Tax Statements
Like last year, the parish office will automatically gener-ate Tax Statements for all parishioners who contribut-ed $250 or more during 2017. We will either mail or email tax statements as soon as they are ready (you don’t need to call the parish office to request yours). Please contact Kenne Ludwig (Ext x204) in the office if you have any questions.
Important Note – Like last year, our parish statements won’t include any Diocesan Appeal donations. Donors will receive a separate statement from The Diocese of Rockford. The Diocese will generate tax statements for all parishioners who sent contributions to DSA, National, International and Mission Appeals in 2017. They are to be mailed by January 31, 2018. Your donations to the Dio-cese and to St. Patrick Church are greatly appreciated. If you need to follow up with the Diocese about your tax statement after the first week of February, the phone num-ber is (815) 399-4300.
If you contributed less than $250 in 2017 and would like a Tax Statement: Please call us or e-mail us at [email protected] / (815) 385-0025 and we will mail (or e-mail) one to you. We appreciate everybody’s generosity and commitment to St. Patrick Church. Thank you.
Do You Celebrate Your Marriage Anniversary
in January
Then Let us Know! There will be a bless-ing for January Anniversary couples, including widows and widowers, at the end of each mass on the 27th and 28th of January.
The Marriage Ministry would like to extend our congratula-tions in the church bulletin. Please contact either the par-ish office (815-385-0025) or the Marriage/Family/Life Min-istry with your anniversary date and number of years of marriage by Monday, January 22nd.
General Meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Lane Room. Please plan on attending our next meeting Wednesday, January 17.

General Meeting Reminder
A Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of the Unborn Child
Monday, January 22, 2018
January 22, 2018 will mark the 45th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 Su-preme Court decision that made abortion legal through all nine months of pregnancy for any reason or for no reason at all.
Since that time more than 60 million children have lost their lives to abortion. We are making an impact as the number of abortions has decreased every year since 1990, but there still over 1 million per year, so we still have much work to do.
At noon, St. Patrick’s bells will toll, joining others through out the nation; one minute for each million children lost.

Sacraments
Baptism of Infants or children under 7 years of age:
You must be a registered parishioner of St. Patrick prior to scheduling a Baptism. To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office. Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month immediately after the 11AM Mass. Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism be-fore your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is re-quired for the parents. This is a two session class that is be-gun on the 1st Sunday and completed on the 3rd Sunday of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.
Sacrament of Marriage: At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an overview of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be registered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Pat-rick Church in order to be married at the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.
Annulment Process - Information
If you or someone you know needs a previous marriage investigated for its validity or invalidity (the annulment pro-cess) so that you may fully participate in your Catholic faith or become Catholic please call the Tribunal Office at 815-399-4300.
