The exciting game of Basketball was thecreation of Dr John Naismith, PE instructorat Springfield YMCA, Massachusetts, USA, in1891. It was played in asmall hall withstructural posts and playedwith a soccerball shot into peach baskets, giving the nameof ‘post’ to certain playerpositions and thename of the game. It is thefastest growingsport in the UK.

TORBAY TIGERS BASKETBALL CLUB isrun by a dedicated team of volunteerswho receive regular training keepingthem up to date with the latest policiesand developments within the game ofBasketball.Young people are given every encourage-ment to develop their skills by the staffin a safe, relaxed and well supervisedEnvironment. The team of coaches is headed by formerEngland Schoolboys Head Coach, RickWooldridge. Quality BasketballTraining for 7 years upwards

The club currently has teams entered inthe Exeter & District Association MensLeagues 1 and 2 for 18 years and upwards.

At the younger age groups Under 18's andUnder 16's lads play in the BasketballEngland National League South West Development Leagues (D-Leagues) and we alsohave teams playing in South West RegionalLeagues at Girls under 16 and boys under 16and under 14. While there is a naturalprogression through the club by age,the choice of competitions thatteams are entered in depends on theavailability of players at each age group.National League entries for the followingSeason have to be with Basketball Englandby 1st June so by then we already havea basic idea of the composition of thoseteams, but we still could have an influxof new players joining during the summer.

As part of our search for new talentTorbay Tigers actively supports the localschools South Devon Central VenueLeagues for school years 8-10. Someskilful young players at even youngerages find their way into the club’steams, joining from 7 years and trainingregularly at our junior sessions.

The TORBAY TIGERS Basketball Club meetregularly throughout the week at variousvenues catering for young people fromthe age of seven years upwards regardlessof ability, race, faith or gender. Many youngpeople come along for fun and recreation soprogress through the club not only dependson a players ability and physical prowess , butalso on the personal choice of the young person.
