“We must never tire of clarifying misunderstanding and shedding light where there is myth and confusion, demonstrating empathy and compassion and a deeper vision… Our task is to present the truth with civility, empathy and clarity. Being champions of the Gospel of Life is about building a civilization of love”.

On Friday, November 1, at 7:00 pm, we will celebrate All Saint’s Day & a special Memorial Mass at St. Ansgar for all those who have lost a loved one in the past year (from Nov. 2012 to Oct. 2013). If you have lost a spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, relative or friend and would like to participate in the candle-lighting ceremony during this liturgy, please notify the Parish Office (630-837-5553 x 100) by Monday, October 28. Tell us the name of the deceased and the name of the person who will come

forward to receive the lighted candle when the deceased’s name is read aloud. It is a wonderful opportunity to show our unity as a parish family and be of comfort to those who have lost someone near and dear to them.

October 20, 2013 World Mission Sunday

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

This year, the Church celebrates World Mission Sunday within the Year of Faith. Mission extends the boundaries of faith through what the Church calls mission ad gentes, mission to all people and to every nation. This faith is a gift of the Trinity that comes to us through the Church in the Sacrament of Baptism. It is a gift that we are meant to share with others. This is especially important in our times, when so many people are indifferent or even hostile to matters of faith and religious practice. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has given voice to his desire that the whole Church should be serious about implementing the missionary mandate of the Gospel. His words are clear and strong.

The men and women of our time need the secure light that illuminates their path and that only the encounter with Christ can give. Let us bring to the world, through our witness, with love, the hope given by faith! The Church’s missionary spirit is not about proselytizing, but the testimony of a life that illuminates the path, which brings hope and love.

Each year, on World Mission Sunday, the Church draws our attention to our missionary vocation. The Pontifical Mission Societies are responsible for supporting the Church’s missionary endeavors. In 1,150 mission dioceses, these mission societies seek to evangelize, educate, heal and bring comfort and help to people in need. We are asked to pray for God’s blessings on the Church’s missionary efforts, sacrifice so as to support the missions, and participate in God’s mission in our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools and families. Please give as generously as possible, and pray for the missions every day. May the Lord fill us with the zeal necessary to be true missionary disciples so that we can spend ourselves making Christ known and loved. Thank you for your participation in the missionary work of the Church, particularly through your support of the Pontifical Mission Societies. You are remembered in my prayers each day; please keep me in yours.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Archbishop of Chicago

Sinceramente suyo en Cristo: Cardenal Francis George, O.M.I. Arzobispo de Chicago
