SUNDAY THOUGHT
Mark 6: 30-34
Last week if you recall, Jesus sent His disciples
out together, two by two, to announce the Good News.
In order for us to be successful in our calling to spread
the Gospel message, we will need the support and the
companionship of other committed Christians who are
likewise enthusiastic about God’s work. That is why it is
so essential that we are a part of a parish community.
We will find it very hard going otherwise. Today’s
Gospel also reminds us of the second requirement for
discipleship. We must have a personal relationship with
Jesus. We cannot witness to someone we do not know.
If we are to be those faithful disciples who do know
Jesus we will have to spend time with Him alone in
prayer. The greatest obstacle to holiness today is we are
simply too busy for the Lord. Slow down this week and
take the time to meet Him.

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 22, 2018
CELEBRATING THE SAINTS
Saint Joseph (+1
st
Century)
Saint Joseph, the foster father of our Lord, was
proclaimed the Guardian of the Universal Church by
Pope Pius IX in 1870. His patronage extends to
countries, religious orders, and laborers. He is
especially invoked by fathers of families and pregnant
women. He is the saint for those who struggle with
hesitation.
In Matthew, we read how Joseph, having
discovered his betrothed to be unexpectedly pregnant,
decided for a discreet divorce. But then the angel
Gabriel appears: “Joseph, son of David, do not be
afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is
through the Holy Spirit that this child has been
conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to
name him Jesus, because He will save His people from
their sins (Mt. 1:20-21).” And Joseph’s response is
immediate: “he did as the angel of the Lord had
commanded him and took his wife into his home (Mt.
1:24).”
Saint John Paul II sees Joseph’s prompt
response as the fruit of a deep inner life, paralleling in
a certain way Mary’s own “yes”. Joseph is “the first to
be placed by God on the path of Mary’s pilgrimage of
faith.”
Saint Teresa of Avila underscores Joseph’s
quick response to our prayers. “I have never known
anyone who was truly devoted to him and honored
him by particular services who did not advance greatly
in virtue, for he helps in a special way those souls who
recommend themselves to him.” We celebrated St.
Joseph’s feast yearly on March 19

RITE OF CHRISTIAN
INITIATION OF ADULTS
RCIA is a process where
adults interested in joining
the Catholic Church begin
their formation in the Catholic faith. Through weekly
meetings, personal time in prayer, and support from
the faithful, inquirers deepen their relationship with
God as they seek to receive the Sacraments of
Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy
Eucharist). RCIA resumes in September. If you, or
anyone you know, is interested in becoming Catholic,
contact Fr. Peter at (440) 842-2666 or email at

POTLUCK AND A MOVIE
Space is still available for ladies to join the
Women’s Faith Ministry on Sunday, July 29 from 4
p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hospitality Room for a potluck
dinner followed by a movie, “The Resurrection of
Gavin Stone”. This light, amusing drama is about a
self-absorbed former child star who is forced to do
community service at a local church after a run-in with
the law. He pretends to be Christian to land the part of
Jesus in the church’s annual Passion play, only to
discover that the most important role of his life is not
based out of Hollywood, and a profound
transformation takes place.
If you can, please bring a main dish, side dish or
dessert of your choice for the potluck. Beverages,
popcorn and paper products will be provided by
WFM. Please call the parish office as soon as possible
and leave your name, phone number and email address
(if you have one) or email us directly

12 stories about real people who discovered the life-
changing power of forgiveness through grace despite
unimaginable circumstances. This program is for all
women of the parish and those they wish to invite.
WFM book studies include supportive materials,
activities that encourage spiritual growth, and
inspirational prayer for women who wish to enhance
their faith.
If you would like to participate, please call the parish
