When it comes time for it to appear in the bulletin I will be in the wilds of Montana with the dogs on a beaufiful stretch of the Yellowstone River. Of all the wonderful things that hap- pened during my seminary studies I think the most beautiful part was the friendships that happened and continue through this day. As I sit I am eagerly awaiting getting to- gether with my seminary compadres, as we do every year, for a time of fellowship and support. I am writing today to inform you of the results of this year’s festival as I see them and then as the numbers see them. What did I see? I saw a constant stream of people coming together for fun and fellow- ship. Friday night so many people came to listen and dance to the music of the band Hip Pocket...WOWZA!!!! They didn’t disappoint! Saturday I admired at a distance the number of people that were here all day! Coming and going in an almost constant flow. And then Sunday for the Taste of SJV! This event is my favorite and it continues to grow every year. Seeing all of the people come and eat with each other...for me it doesn’t get much better than that! A shared meal at Mass and a shared meal under the tent...living in the fullness! And then the first, hopefull annual, softball game between CC faculty and SJV faculty...what a blast! We lost but we went down fighting!!!! So in my estimation from the angle that I judge an event I would say it was a huge suc- cess! Many thanks to the chairpersons who put so many hours into the planning and function- ality of such an event and all of those who volunteered when called upon...without all of you it could not have happened! Thank you for all that you did for the parish and the pa- rishioners of St. John Vianney. This year’s Festival netted $23,389.05 after all expenses were paid. Dear Parishioners,

As I write this article to you I am sitting at my desk on a beautiful fall day. When it comes time for it to appear in the bulletin I will be in the wilds of Montana with the dogs on a beaufiful stretch of the Yellowstone River. Of all the wonderful things that hap-pened during my seminary studies I think the most beautiful part was the friendships that happened and continue through this day. As I sit I am eagerly awaiting getting to-gether with my seminary compadres, as we do every year, for a time of fellowship and support.

I am writing today to inform you of the results of this year’s festival as I see them and then as the numbers see them.

What did I see? I saw a constant stream of people coming together for fun and fellow-ship.

So in my estimation from the angle that I judge an event I would say it was a huge suc-cess!

Many thanks to the chairpersons who put so many hours into the planning and function-ality of such an event and all of those who volunteered when called upon...without all of you it could not have happened! Thank you for all that you did for the parish and the pa-rishioners of St. John Vianney.

To speak of the Blessed Sacrament is to speak of what

is most sacred. How often, when we are in a state of

distress, those to whom we look for help

leave us—or what is worse, add to our

affliction by heaping fresh troubles upon

us. He is ever there waiting to help us.

A Family Perspective ~ October 18, 2015

Advice books abound on marriage and parenting. Jesus tells us in today’s

Gospel the real secret: satisfying relationships depend on how well we sac-

rifice our needs to serve others. It is not about “getting,” it’s about

“giving” ourselves. If you feel like you are a servant to your children and

spouse, then you are doing it right.

Respect Life ~ October 18, 2015

“Blessed is she who believed that

what the Lord has said to her

would be fulfilled.” Luke 1:45

REFLECTION: The Rosary is a de-votion strongly embraced by the pro-life movement. In the Hail Mary we praise a mother, and we worship the fruit of her womb. Our salvation began because a mother said yes to the life within her! In the Rosary we also say, “Pray for us sinners.” We know that sin is in the world, but we start by repenting of the sin within us. That is the best way to rebuild the Cul-ture of Life. PRAYER: Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

MISSION OF THE CHURCH -

Of her very nature, the Church is missionary. This means her members are called by God to bring the Gospel by word and deed to all peoples and to every situation of work, education, culture, and commu-nal life in which human beings find each other. The members of the Church seek to transform society not by power but by persuasion and by example.
