SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

FR. BILL’S NOTES-

My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Risen Lord,

I begin this letter to you with congratulations to the eight First Holy Communion children who received Our Lord in the Holy

Eucharist for the first of, we pray, many times worthily throughout their lives. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Jenna Bach,

Kristian Bach, Trevor Bodie, Mia Denier, Hannah Loebbaka, Katie Nowitski, Jonathan MacNamara, and Dylan McCaig. I also want to

congratulate their families and friends. It was a very special day in the life of our parish, May 2nd, as was the next day when they helped

to honor Our Blessed Mother by her ceremonial Crowning. I can still remember my First Holy Communion on May 25 th, 1964 and my

sister, Agnes, was picked to crown Our Lady right after her First Holy Eucharist in May of 1960. May all of us please pray for these

children and their families, in particular, and all Catholics, in general, that we will all received the Most Blessed Sacrament and all of the

Holy Sacraments in the state of grace and in an otherwise worthy manner.

On Saturday, May 23rd, at 9:00 A.M., Cardinal Dolan is scheduled to ordain ten transitional Deacons to the Priesthood for the

Archdiocese of New York. Also, in this latest issue of Catholic New York, ten Priests from other dioceses were incardinated into the

Archdiocese of New York. May I ask all of us to pray for these additional twenty Priests that they may serve our Archdiocese faithfully

and with great zeal for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. With these additional New York Archdiocesan Priests, we will have a

grand total of 596 New York Archdiocesan Bishops (including the Cardinal) and Priests and exactly 400 will have a canonical

assignment (a Church assignment) and exactly 400 will be on the active (unretired) list. We still must continue to pray that young men

and not so young men answer God’s call to the New York Archdiocesan Priesthood especially with the continuous implementation of the

Strategic Pastoral Planning (Making All Things New). May we continue to pray for those parishes being merged and those parishes

having a parish being merged into them by the August 1st deadline. Believe it or not, Bob Cranston is only 13 months from being

ordained as a Permanent Deacon for our parish and for the Archdiocese of New York. Please continue to pray that Bob will continue to

recover from blood cancer and, if God so wills, that he will be a faithful, holy Deacon.

THIS THURSDAY IS ASCENSION THURSDAY AND IS A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION. PLEASE PRAY AT HOLY

MASS AT SOME CATHOLIC PARISH EITHER ON WEDNESDAY EVENING, MAY 13th, OR ON THURSDAY, MAY 14th, TO

FULFILL OUR OBLIGATION TO PRAY AT HOLY MASS FOR ASCENSION THURSDAY. Our schedule is in this bulletin.

Mothers’ Day is this Sunday, May 10th. Please honor your mom, whether living or deceased, by having her prayed in the infinite

momentos of all the Holy Masses in this Month of May, the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Motherhood and by purchasing Respect

Life Roses which are $2 each after all of our Holy Masses this weekend.

The Closing Program for our Religious Education (Faith Formation) Program is this Monday evening, May 11 th, from 6:05 until

7:35 P.M. Please remember to continue to pray at Holy Mass every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation for the rest of your life.

Community Action meets this Tuesday, May 12th, at 1:00 P.M. in the Church Hall. Cursillo will have the Ultreya at 8:00 P.M.

this Thursday evening, May 14th. Junk in the Trunk is next Saturday, May 16th, in our Parking Lot from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M.

All Day Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament will be next Sunday, May 17th, from the conclusion of the 10:30 A.M. Holy

Mass until Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament at 8:30 P.M. My Holy Hour will be from 7:30 until 8:30 P.M. that evening and I

hope one of my friends who is a Priest, Father Dennis Dinan, will join me in praying the Holy Hour. God bless you in this Easter Season.

Sincerely, with prayers,

Father Bill Woodruff

tithing. Even though I am not rich, I know that I am loved and that is

the greatest gift of all.

PASTOR’S COMMENT– Jesus gave us the greatest gift possible—

Himself. Our tithing is a way of giving part of ourselves to God. Our

tithing is a way of imitating the generous love of Jesus. May God bless

Jesus, Mary and Joseph we love you very much.

Help us spiritually adopt and protect all human life

from preborn to natural death.

Amen.

MAKING ALL THINGS NEW

God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist,

You bring us together as Your Church in the

Archdiocese of New York.

Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our

actions as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese.

Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish

communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and

material gifts that sustain them.

Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to

the truth of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

———————— —————

THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD

Where will you go when it is time for retirement?

Maybe you are already in your golden years and enjoying some

well-deserved relaxation. Did you plan well? Finances can be a

little tighter than anticipated, and maybe that house that held up

all those years now needs a little work. Life is never exactly the

way we planned it or envisioned it. Life always has the tendency

to take us by surprise.

In terms of what comes next after this earthly life, we

know there is a place prepared for those who love the Lord and

heed His words. We do not know what it looks like or exactly

which people we will see there, but we know it is better than

anything we have experienced previously in life. This place, not

defined by human perceptions of space and time, is eternal and

perfect, and it is where Jesus sits at the right hand of God.

The Ascension of the Lord provides for us a hope that,

after whatever trials of this life we experience, there is rest in the

Savior’s arms. The Incarnation, God made flesh, rose from the

dead and now is with the Father so that we could rise from the

dead and live eternally with the Father. This is good news!
