Fr. Keith’s KornerFr. Keith’s KornerFr. Keith’s KornerFr. Keith’s Korner This past week I started coming into the parish

office (and attending some meetings), and will resume celebrating weekday Mass this week in our chapel on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. I will also be back in action (even if it is "one-armed" action...) at weekend Masses after this weekend, when we welcome Msgr. Rick Hilgartner to lead us in prayer. Fr. Rick is leaving his position in the U.S. Bishops' Liturgy Office in Washington this summer and returning (probably) to parish ministry in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. I know many of you have enjoyed his visits, and so we thank him for serving our parish over the past few years. Our annual Drexel Ball (celebrating the feast day of our patron saint) occurred last weekend and was a great evening for our parish life. Many thanks to Laura Hicks and her dedicated committee who worked so hard in making it all come together. We were actually able to surprise Mary Brockway (our parishioner who, as a little girl, lived down the street from St. Katharine's convent in Philadelphia and knew her personally) with the first party celebrating her 100th birthday this coming July. According to Mary: "It was truly a wonderful surprise!" Please help us to keep our budget balanced this year by responding to the Finance Committee's snow removal expense request letter. We are in need of $9,062 in donations (to add to our budgeted $3,220) to meet the $12,282 total so far for expenses. Thanks to so many who have already donated $7,607 toward that goal! Don't forget that registration for our Palm Sunday Easter Egg Hunt and Seder Meal are due by next weekend. I have been greatly encouraged and strengthened by the kindness and care of so many parishioners through many get-well cards, delicious meals, and car rides during my rehabilitation. Many thanks to everyone for their prayers of healing!

The Season of Lent

“Called to Abundant Life”

Rice Bowls are available at the Information Center for use at home as a family Lenten devotion. Having one simple meal a week at home, praying about those who experience hunger around the world on a regular basis can help your family experience this special season. Donations support the work of Catholic Relief Services.

Lenten Fridays will be observed at Saint Katharine Drexel with a simple meal of soup and bread (you bring the bread, we provide the soup) at 6:15 PM, followed by various prayer experiences at 7:00 PM. This is a great way to make Lent a special time for your family. Check the purple bulletin insert for more information.

Our Lenten Bulletin Board remains in the Gathering Space throughout the season of Lent. All parishioners

are invited to visit the board, making a decision to fast "from" something in order to make room "for" something in your life during this special season.

The 50th Anniversary of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy: A Parish Celebration © 2013 Archdiocese of Chicago: Liturgy Training Publications. Orders: 1-800-933-1800. Written by Kristopher W. Seaman. Text from the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy © 1982, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation (ICEL). Imprimatur granted by the Reverend Monsignor John F. Canary, Vicar General, Archdiocese of Chicago on June 5, 2013.

“The liturgy . . .

moves the faithful,

filled with ‘the paschal

sacraments,’ to be

‘one in holiness.’” (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 10)

T he liturgy enacts the saving or healing presence of Christ that removes human brokenness, sin, and death.

In place, Christ gives the gifts of love, peace, justice, and life. This is the Paschal Mystery: Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection. The Spirit empowers us to move from death (brokenness, fragmentation, and sin) toward life (healing, communion, and love). God’s gift of the Spirit, given in Baptism, allows us to receive Christ’s presence in his Word and Eucharist so that we might be more united to the Father. This transformation by the Trinity leads us closer to the holiness God desires and at the same time brings about a greater harmony and unity (com-munion) between the faithful and God.

others the gifts and joy they have experienced in their work.
