A Note from Fr. Craig

Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. We congratulate those who have received the sacrament today. Tuesday is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. With the dispensation still in place you are not obligated to attend Mass. But if you wish, you can attend one of the normal daily Mass times. Tuesday night is the Night of Prayer. We will have adoration from 8-11pm to pray for Life. The whole country will be praying at this time. Come anytime. We will not be having the Advent Parish Penance Services this week. We hope to have them during lent. If you would like to go to confession, you can come Saturdays at 3:30 or by appointment. Please keep Fr. Emmanuel in your prayers. His Father’s funeral is Thursday. Fr. Craig

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness

By: Deacon Jim Shipman Second Sunday of Advent December 6, 2020

We are always preparing to do something in our life. We prepare ourselves in the morning to face a new day, we prepare meals, we prepare our work day, we pre-pare to go to bed, but are we getting prepared for Our Lord? Advent is a time to prepare our lives for the celebration of Our Lord Jesus’ birth, it’s also a time to prepare our heart, mind, body and soul to experience Jesus Christ in a meaningful way and to follow Him where ever He takes us.

The opening sentences our Gospel of Mark say, The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way. A voice of one crying out in the desert: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths”. Mark uses Isaiah the prophet not only to introduce John the Baptist, but to say “Here is your God”, prepare the way for Him to enter your heart and mind.

Our Lord wants to remove all ob-stacles from our life that keep us from Him. He wants to gather us in and hold us in His arms, as He for-gives our sins. In order to do that, we first must take a long hard look at ourselves, ask forgiveness, open our hearts to His merciful love, and accept Him as our Savior and Lord. Once we open the WAY for the Lord into our lives everything changes. By preparing the way for His Grace, we will learn to con-duct ourselves in holiness and de-votion for the coming of the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

30th Annual National Night of Prayer for Life, Tuesday, Dec. 8th 8:00pm - 11:00pm

It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Con-ception that Our Lady of Guadalupe, pa-troness of the Americas and the unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego. The National Night of Prayer for Life honors Our Blessed Mother and prays through Her intercession for the establishment of a Culture of Life, protection for the Church from persecution, and asks our Lord to REVIVE OUR LAND. St. Leo will have Exposition of the Blessed Sac-rament with Adoration from 8 PM to Mid-night, Tuesday the 8th in the main church. Host couples will be present for each hour of the vigil. Pick an hour or just stop in for a few minutes. You may want to come especially during the HOUR OF UNITY, from 10pm – 11pm, when we will be united in prayer with churches across our country’s 4 time zones for the protection of all life from con-ception to natural death. The National Night of Prayer for Life is a wonderful way to start your Advent season and help you and your family put the holidays in the proper perspective. A set of mysteries of the Rosary will be prayed at the beginning of each hour followed by silent prayer.

"GOOD NEWS" FROM ST. PIUS X / ST. LEO SCHOOL Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members!

I pray everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a very blessed start to the Advent season and our celebra-tion of our savior, Jesus Christ’s birth. For this past week, we were in remote learning in order to give extra time and precaution following the Thanks-giving holiday. I want to thank our fac-ulty and staff for all the hard work and dedication to making this past week of virtual/remote learning as successful as possible and working together to keep

our school community healthy and safe. Although this year has been different in so many ways, I am so proud of our school community for not forgetting the spirit of service and charity. Al-ready this year, our school has participated in Operation Others with mak-ing Christmas cards to help go along with food delivery for those families in need in the Omaha area. Our school also participated in a large food drive that brought in over 600 pounds of food for the St. Pius X and St. Martin de Porres food pantries. Additionally, our 1st grade families and teachers brought in over $300, and counting, for a diaper drive for the Lydia House, which provides emergency services for women and families in need of immediate assistance. Lastly, but certainly not least, our school com-munity has been donating hats, mittens and a variety of other items for a stocking project to donate to homeless men, women and children staying at the Siena Francis house and other local homeless shelters. I am so proud of our school community’s charitable spirit and living out our Catholic school mission and not letting this pandemic stop us from giving to those who are in great need of love and compassion. Way to go SPSL! *** If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4-year-old programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for the next school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ren when you decide to come to our school. We are blessed that our grades are filling up fast but we would love for you and your family to join our school family next year. God bless, Principal Sepich
