ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in
my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though
You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated
from You.

2020 St. Margaret Annual Collection
The last six months have presented unprecedented
challenges for our families, parish, community, and
nation, in the form of Covid-19. None of us were
prepared for the devastating loss of life, livelihood, as
well as the hardship to practice our Catholic faith.
St. Margaret has re-opened and we will continue to live stream Mass on
Sunday for the indefinite future. Despite this, many parishioners
remain at home due to age, underlying medical concerns, and fear. I
want to thank our parishioners who have continued to support the
parish with their weekly envelopes or electronic giving.
Our parishioners have always been generous towards the Annual
Collection. The past unbudgeted repairs and improvements (new
flooring, new side pews, repointing of the front bluestone entrance, new
ceilings, etc.) keep our property safe, secure, attractive, and reflects our
dedication to the parish. It’s been accomplished together, and I have
every confidence it will continue.
It is my privilege to serve all of our caring and generous parishioners
at St. Margaret. The continuous acts of kindness, compassion, and
mercy that I witness each day as your pastor inspires me in my priestly
vocation.
Your continued participation is needed. Please prayerfully consider a
donation. Please use the mailed 2020 Annual Collection personalized
gift card and reply envelope, which you can return via the collection
basket or mailed to the office. If you prefer to make your contribution on
your new FAITH DIRECT account, that’s even better! That clear option
is on the website.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Msgr. John J. Darcy
Sept. 27, 2020
Have you ever met a ‘windbag?’ You, know, a person
who’s a back-slapper, who thinks they’re one of your
closest ‘friends,’ who you absolutely never see, call, text or
even know their contact information? Honestly, they
exhaust me. I usually sputter to myself, “They do have the
delight of seeing me...”and then, my life and ministry moves
on to more engaging experiences. Spoiler alert: I do not
suffer windbags well. There, I told you even after five years
into ministry among you. Now, let’s move on.
A very direct question respectfully asks for a direct
answer. When watching all the news programs during a
hyper-sensitive political year, I usually turn off the
television as soon as any person being interviewed starts
reciting ‘talking points’ and ‘spin.’ I shut it off and use my
evening time for reading and research.
Jesus had more finesse than I. Using the rabbinical
method, he would ask simple questions to further deepen
his teaching. Today’s Gospel is an example…it calls for a
simple answer. The simple answer is, “The first.” Hearing
that, Jesus would then simply connect the dots for his
obvious teaching. Those in the toxic public square may
learn something from the Lord’s example. “Say ‘yes’ when
you mean ‘yes,’ and ‘no,’ when you mean no. Anything
else, is from the evil one” (Matthew. 5:37).
I find it most ironic that St. Paul, a free Roman citizen,
and brilliant rabbinical scholar in the Law of Moses, uses a
pointed word to describe Jesus. Paul writes today in
Philippians that “Jesus emptied himself, taking the form of
a slave, (Greek, doulos). coming in human likeness…he
humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death
on a cross”. Such torturous capital punishment as
crucifixion was reserved for the worst of criminals and
those perceived to threaten the power of Rome. In our
American culture, who wants to become or even
considered, “a slave”?
No, we give thanks for the example of Jesus as teacher,
the example of humility and service. No windbag here…
but quite the opposite; the obedient Divine Son and
suffering Savior! ~ Monsignor Darcy
