Greetings to all. As you have probably heard by now, my name is Fr. Javier. I am 34 years old, I am the oldest of four, and originally from Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. I was ordained a priest, through the mercy of God, on June 3, 2017. Growing up, I never imagined that I would one day be a priest. When I was 12 years old I passed through a moment in my life where I did not want to know anything about God or religion, and this was due to the sufferings I was going through, mainly the fact that I grew up without my parents. This affected very much my relationship with God, since I blamed Him for this. Eventually I came to live with my mother and she had remar-ried so I now also had a stepfather, whom I was not able to get along with. We would always go to church on Sundays, but for me I was going just because I had to, not because I thought God would help me. This situation at home only brought me to be even more alone, because I couldn’t speak to my parents or my siblings. It reached a moment when I couldn’t take this anymore. So out of desperation I asked God to help me. A few months later my parents went to hear some catechesis in the parish, and began their journey of faith through the Neocatechumenal Way, an itinerary of faith through which you begin to grow in faith through small communities of people of different ages, and backgrounds. Through this small community the life of my parents began to change, especially my stepfather. And it was here where I realized that God did exist, and that he did care about my life, because I saw how at that moment he heard my prayer and helped me. Eventually I also entered into a community of the Neocatechumenal Way and through the community I was able to experi-ence the love of God in my life, to reconcile with my parents, and also it was there that I saw that God was calling me to the seminary. I was sent to the Redemptoris Mater Diocesan Missionary Seminary in Dallas in May 2005. The time of seminary was challenging, but it was there that I began to see the power of the announcement of the good news, and the need for the people of God to receive this announcement. I am really grateful to God for giving me the gift of this vocation. This gift shows me the faithfulness of the Lord and it is a sign for me that nothing is impossible for God. I am happy with my assignment to St. Michael. I am really looking forward to getting to know the parishioners, and to serve, and help in any way that I may be needed. God bless.

Saludos a todos. Mi nombre es Padre Javier. Tengo 34 años, soy el mayor de cuatro y originalmente de Morelia, Michoacán, México. Fui ordenado sacerdote, por la gracia y la misericordia de Dios, el 3 de junio del 2017.

Cuando era niño, yo nunca me imaginé que un día iba a ser sacerdote. Cuando tenía 12 años pasé por una etapa de mi vida, donde no quería saber nada de Dios o de religión, debido a los sufrimientos por los cuales estaba pasando, más de todo el sufrimiento de crecer lejos de mis padres. Esta situación afecto mi relación con Dios, porque pensaba que El era el culpable de todo lo que estaba pasando. Después de un tiempo mi madre me trajo a vivir con ella. Recién se había casado y ahora yo tenía un padrastro, que desde el momento que nos conocimos no nos llevábamos bien. Nosotros siempre íbamos a misa los domingos como familia, yo iba solo porque tenía que, no porque pensara que Dios me podía ayudar. Toda esta situación en casa solo me hacía sentir más y mas solo, porque no podía hablar ni con mis padres, ni con mis hermanos, estaba solo. Llego un momento cuando ya no podía más con todo esto, entonces en mi desesperación clamé a Dios que me ayudara. Unos meses después mis padres fueron a escuchar catequesis en la parroquia donde asistíamos, y empezaron un proceso de fe, por medio del Camino Neocatecumenal, que es un itinerario de fe donde uno empieza a crecer poco a poco en la fe en pequeñas comunidades, constituidas de gente de todas edades y de diferentes costumbres, y estatus social. Fue gracias a estas comunidades que la vida de mis padres empezó a cambiar, especialmente la de mi padrastro; viendo el cambio me di cuenta de que Dios si existe, y que, si le importaba mi vida, porque experimenté que en el momento que yo le pedí que me ayudara el me escucho. Después de un tiempo yo también entre a una comunidad del Camino Neocatecumenal y por medio de la comunidad experimenté el amor de Dios en mi vida, me pude reconciliar con mis padres, y vi también que el Señor me estaba llamando a entrar al seminario. En mayo del 2005, fui enviado al Seminario Redemptoris Mater de la diocesis de Dallas. El tiempo de seminario fue muy difícil para mí, pero fue allí donde empecé a ver la fuerza y la potencia del anuncio de la Buena Nueva y la necesidad que la gente tiene en escuchar y recibir este anuncio. Yo estoy muy agradecido con Dios por haberme dado este regalo que ha sido mi vocación al sacerdocio. Por medio de mi vocación he podido ver la fidelidad del Señor y es un recordatorio para mi de que nada es imposible para Dios. Estoy muy contento de que me hayan asignado a esta par-roquia de San Miguel. Espero poder llegar a conocer a todos los parroquianos. Dios me ha enviado para servir, y ayudar en cualquier manera que pueda. Que Dios los bendiga.

ASKING FOR HELP The Beatitudes praise the poor in spirit. One characteristic of those who are poor in spirit is their ability to ask for help; they know when others can provide what they lack. Today’s readings encourage us to practice poverty in spirit by asking God for what we need. What could be more natural than to ask God for good things? God is, after all, the inventor of goodness and the giver of all good things. Asking God for help puts us in conversation with God. These conversations take many forms. The reading from Genesis shows Abraham bantering with God like a skilled negotiator, while Saint Paul’s letter to the Colossians praises God for answering us even when we don’t deserve it. In Saint Luke’s Gospel, Jesus not only gives us words to use in our conversations with God (the Our Father), but also promises that God always listens to our prayers.

PIDIENDO AYUDA Las beatitudes alaban al pobre de espíritu. Una de las características de quienes son pobres de espíritu es su habilidad para pedir ayuda; ellos saben cuando otros pueden proveerles lo que les hace falta. Las lecturas de hoy nos animan a practicar la pobreza de espíritu pidiéndole a Dios aquello que necesitamos. ¿Qué podría ser más natural pedir a Dios que buenas cosas? Dios es, después de todo, el hacedor de la bondad y el dador de buenas cosas. Pidiendo ayuda a Dios nos pone en una conversación con Dios. Esta conversación o conversaciones pueden ser de muchas formas. La lectura del libro del Génesis muestra a Abraham negociando con Dios de una manera graciosa, pero como un hábil negociador; por otro lado la carta de san Pablo a los colosenses alaba a Dios respondiéndonos aún cuando no lo merecemos. En el Evangelio de san Lucas, Jesús no solo nos da las palabras y frases para usar en nuestras conversaciones con Dios (el Padre Nuestro), sino también promete que Dios siempre escuchará nuestras oraciones.

PRAYERS AND SQUARES Every Monday at 10 am a compassionate group of quilters join in making beautiful prayer quilts which are prayed over to bring comfort and healing to parishioners in need. Each unique quilt is a reminder of Christ’s love and healing power. Come quilt! Above the group during their reunion last Monday July 15th at the Holy Family room. Cada lunes a las 10 am un grupo compasivo de costureras se reúnen a elaborar hermosas colchas sobre las cuales se hace oración trayendo confort y sanación a los feligreses que se encuentran en tiempos de dificultad.
