Jesus was born during the night of the year when darkness is the longest.

The Savior of the world comes for the people in dark places. The real, lasting, and deep joy is that the Light shines there.

Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, “Light” has shown, bringing real, lasting and deep joy to the hearts of the poor who live in dark places in our streets and neighborhoods.

Thank you for blessing a child during Gift Giving Sunday. Because of your generosity and thoughtfulness, families faced with hardships this Christmas are able to breathe a little easier knowing their child will find a gift under the tree.

SOME CHRISTMAS SEASON SAINTS TO REMEMBER Stephen - December 26. Luke’s Gospel tells about the selection and martyrdom of St. Stephen in Acts of the Apostles. The little we know about him speaks volumes about what kind of man he was, his love for Jesus, and the early Church community.

Holy Innocents - December 28. In Matthew’s Gospel, King Herod slaughters an unknown number of male babies in an attempt to rid himself of the perceived threat to his power. What Herod didn’t understand was that Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world; later in Matthew’s Gospel, that fact will be highlighted.

ALGUNOS SANTOS DE LA TEMPORADA NAVIDADENA PARA RECORDAR

Estefan – 26 diciembre.

Please remember in the kindness of your prayers the soul of Audrey Peterson.

Ministry and Continuing Education for Adults Because Our Faith is too Rich to have ever Learned it All…

Contact Heidi Clark, Director of Adult Ministry, 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected] for more information.

Adult faith formation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living

“The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the

faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a

diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have

learned along the way.

Advent Helps Us Welcome the Lord at All Times

From the words of Pope John Paul II: Advent helps us to understand fully the value and meaning of the mystery of Christmas. It is not just about commemorating the historical event, which occurred some 2,000 years ago in a little village of Judea. Instead, it is necessary to understand that the whole of our life must be an “advent,” a vigilant awaiting of the final coming of Christ. To predispose our mind to welcome the Lord who, as we say in the Creed, one day will come to judge the living and the dead, we must learn to recognize him as present in the events of daily life. Therefore Advent is, so to speak, an intense training that directs us decisively toward him who already came, who will come, and who comes continuously

Welcome the Lord at every moment, in every person. "Our Lord, come!"(1 Cor 16:22) Jesus, savior, you are welcome in my heart and in my whole being. Live in me always!

Have you been away from your faith for awhile? Welcome home!

Who are you? Are you divorced? Are you worried about your kids? Are you married for the second, or even the third time? Are you a newcomer? Are you from another Christian tradition? Are you full of doubt? Has it been a while since you’ve been to church? All are welcome here. If you've been away, you can come back; if you've been living in darkness, you can come to the light. To find out more about becoming Catholic—or even returning to the faith—contact Heidi Clark at [email protected] or call 281.333.3891 x328.

Interested in being Catholic? Attend this Sunday’s Inquiry session right after the 9 AM Mass. We meet in the conference room that is down the hallway to the right of the Welcome Center from about 10:15-11:15 AM. We’ll have warm donuts and fresh coffee, in addition to a friendly welcome and answers to your questions! Contact Heidi, 281.333.3891 or [email protected].

“Christmas isn’t about candy canes, or lights all aglow, it’s the hearts that we touch, and the care that we show.” Unknown

Thank you to all of those that gave to our adopted families. You helped to make someone’s Christmas brighter this year. God Bless!

The ECP will be closed from December 22nd - January 8th. Classes resume on the 9th. God Bless and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. John 1:12-13

Volume XVIII No. 1917 Fourth Sunday Of Advent December 24, 2017

Year End Charitable Gift Announcement As the end of the year approaches, we begin to reflect upon the many blessings bestowed upon us, including having survived through our own and our brothers and sisters impacts due to the numerous natural disasters we experienced back to back this year.

As we come to the end of 2017, we are also provided an opportunity to thank God and help our parish thru charitable gifting. This year in particular, gifts will have significant impact in helping us with repairs of damages suffered during Hurricane Harvey and meeting our monthly building loan payments; an area in which we are regularly about $13,000 or more short and have to use repair, operational and ministry funds to complete the payment. The additional benefits of income tax deductions and capital gains savings are significant advantages to donors, providing an additional incentive to make a gift at year-end.*

There are many different ways of making a gift. Some of the easiest and most direct methods to give are donations of cash, charitable IRA Rollover Gifts and gifts of appreciated stocks. As the holidays approach, please pray about making an end of year gift and perhaps even consider making a gift in memory or honor of loved ones. There are other planned giving options that are advantageous such as real estate, life insurance and bequests in wills or trusts; or perhaps your company matches your gift with an equal donation to the charitable organization you designate. For more information on how you can help make a difference by contributing a year-end gift to our parish, please contact Maria Conner, our Business Manager at 281.333.3891.

*Gifts of securities must be received no later than 12-29-17, and Cash gifts post-marked by 12-31-17 for inclusion as a 2017 gift.
