TRAINING FOR NEW EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS

OF HOLY COMMUNION There will be an all-day training course for new extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion on Saturday, January 20th. If you are interested in participating, please contact Joyce Lubofsky at [email protected].

IT’S FLU AND COLD SEASON! To limit everyone’s exposure

to this winter’s flu and colds, we ask everyone to please follow these

guidelines: If you are ill, stay home! If you are contagious, you should not be around other people, including and especially at Church, a closed environment where you could possibly infect hundreds of other people with your germs or virus. “Contagious” includes everything from a coughy, sneezy, phlegmy cold to the flu. If you are not feeling up to par but you are not sick enough to stay home:

**do not hold hands during the Our Father;

**do not shake hands or hug other people at the Sign of Peace – a smile and nod of the head with the words “The Peace of the Lord be with you” will suffice;

**do not drink from the cup of the Precious Blood;

**receive the Host in your hand, not on your tongue.

Show concern for your brothers and sisters in the community, especially the elderly or chronically ill, and follow these simple guidelines to ensure a healthier winter for us all!

**no sostenga las manos durante el Padre Nuestro;

**no se dan la mano o abraza a otras personas durante el Señal de la Paz - será suficiente una sonrisa y el guiño de la cabeza con las palabras "la paz del Señor este con usted";

**no beba del cáliz de la Preciosa Sangre;

Ministry and Continuing Education for Adults Because Our Faith is too Rich to have ever Learned it All…

Contact Heidi Clark, Director of Adult Ministry, 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected] for more information.

Adult faith formation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living

“The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the

faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a

diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have

learned along the way.

Philippians Bible and Prayer Study Group Beginning Toward the end of his life, under arrest and awaiting trial in Rome, Saint Paul wrote a short but powerful letter to the Philippians. At the heart of this letter is Paul’s eloquent hymn of Christ’s total gift of self, the model for Paul’s life. With his words and the example of his life, Paul exhorts the Philippians to have the mind of Christ, to live a life worthy of the Gospel, and, by God’s grace, to gain Christ. In this six-session Bible study which also beautifully interweaves contemplative prayer into the experience, you’ll gain important insights on how to grow you prayer life. This study group will meet Wednesday nights from January 3-Feb. 14, 7-8:30 p.m., in the conference room. Participation is free. Contact [email protected] for more information or call 281-333-3891, ext. 328.

Ladies’ Spirituality Group If you are looking to grow in your understanding of God’s plan for you and how to live that out authentically, consider joining this weekly daytime spiritual growth group for women. The group will begin meeting again on Tuesday morning, January 23. The book we’ll be reading and discussing is Jennifer Fulwiler’s latest best-seller, “Something Other Than God.” The group meets from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in room 1. The book is available free for parishioners on the FORMED.ORG website using our parish access code: Q8QMC7.

A Welcome for Newcomers Who are you? Are you divorced? Are you worried about your kids? Are you married for the second, or even the third time? Are you a newcomer? Are you from another Christian tradition? Are you full of doubt? Has it been a while since you’ve been to church? All are welcome here. If you've been away, you can come back; if you've been living in darkness, you can come to the light. To find out more about becoming Catholic—or even returning to the faith—contact Heidi Clark at [email protected] or call 281-333-3891 x328.

Join the Legion of Mary Praesidium, Our Lady Star of the Sea!!!!

As Mary’s army, we Legionaries assist Fr. Wencil in taking Christ out to the world by evangelizing and fighting evil. Together we are on a journey towards sanctification. The Legion of Mary praesidium meetings are held in room 1 every Monday at 6:45 p.m. Our Legionary assignments are focused on Spiritual Works of Mercy, take about 2 hours and are performed in pairs. Some examples of Legionary assignments are: - Visit and Pray the Rosary (or the Divine Mercy Chaplet) with nursing

home residents, homebound parishioners, with families receiving the Pilgrim Virgin Statue and at funeral vigils (upon request).

- Assist with Communion Services at nursing homes. - Evangelize at a Book Borrow in front of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul offices, during

Door-To-Door visits, at the Strawberry Festival and at the University of Houston (Clear Lake Campus) Catholic booths, etc.

- Catechize RCIC, RCIA, CCE and the homebound as well as those in nursing homes and those we visit.

- Set up an altar for Our Lord and participate in the Corpus Christi Procession. - Assist with the crowning of Mary at the May Crowning. - Assist with Home Enthronements. - Assist with Our Lady of Guadalupe festivities including setting up an altar honoring our

devotion to Mary. - Participate in the National Prayer Life Chain along Nasa Rd 1 and the ProLife Rosary

Procession on the anniversary of Roe vs Wade. - Go on Summer Outings, Tours and many other Fun activities. - Visit newly registered parishioners, newly Baptized and newly married. - Teach others about the history of the rosary and how to pray it. The list is endless! We must forget ourselves, our own comforts and desires and concentrate completely on what we can do for others with the power of the Holy Spirit and the ministering help of Mary.
