Volume XVIII No. 1840 Eleventh Sunday In Ordinary Time June 12, 2016

that June 20, the first day of summer, is National eGiving Day?

St. Paul the Apostle can take particular joy in this celebration, as the response to eGiving in our church has been wonderful. To build on this success, I am setting a National eGiving Day Challenge. My goal is for St. Paul the Apostle families to put envelopes on a permanent summer vacation and make the switch to eGiving. This is especially important in the summer months, when many families may be out of town some weekends and St. Paul the Apostle does not receive their envelopes. It’s easy for people to forget to catch up once they’re back, and our weekly offertory can fluctuate as a result – making it harder to predict how much we will have to sustain our year-round ministries.

The more families who welcome the beginning of summer by taking this National eGiving Day Challenge, the more consistency and predictable our offertory will be month after month and this will help us do even more to spread Christ’s love throughout the community.

Being part of this challenge is simple: Visit www.faithdirect.net and use our church code: TX596.

Thank you for your continued support of your parish family with your time, talent and treasure! God Bless You, Rev. Wencil Pavlovsky

This group will be responsible for the decoration of the Church and Narthex for each of the liturgical seasons. There will be a planning meeting on Sunday, June 26th, 10:30 - 11:30 AM for all interested persons.

TRAINING FOR MASS PLANNERS If you have an interest in all things liturgical and would like to learn more about the Mass and be a member of the teams that prepare each weekend’s celebrations, join us for a summer Liturgy series 10:30 AM – 12 noon starting July 10, in the Delta Room.

WHY DO CATHOLICS OFFER MASSES FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DIED? (continued)

All pastors are required to offer one Mass on Sunday for the intentions of the living and deceased parishioners of a parish. The pastor does not receive anything for it: it is his gift to his people, who now know in turn that all their intentions are rolled up into this one “super-intention.” The Mass offering (donation) is meant to help provide for the expenses related to the celebration of the Mass. After all, the Mass requires books, candles, and altar linens. And what about the church building the Mass is being said in? Buildings are pretty darned expensive. Another “expense” related to the celebration of the Mass is the expense of having a priest. Priests have to eat. They need a roof over their head. They need to be trained, and ideally they stay up to date in that training. The Mass offering, therefore, is also meant to help the priest to live. The offering amount is typically very low, such that it is often merely a symbolic reference to the support required to be able to celebrate the Mass in the first place. In the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, the Mass intention offering is $5. To offer a Mass for a deceased loved one or for a particular intention at St Paul, please come to or call the Welcome Center Monday through Friday (8 AM -4 PM).

.Adult Ministry and Faith Formation: Because our faith is too rich and too beautiful to have ever learned it all…

Adult faith formation at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living “The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have learned along the way.

Inquiry Class Beginning A new class called Inquiry is beginning for people who are interested in learning more about becoming Catholic. It will meet on Sunday mornings after 9 AM Mass. Contact Heidi at [email protected] for info.

Silver Linings Meeting Planned Silver Linings next meeting is planned for Monday, June 13, at 1 PM in Room 10. Please bring a dish to share for the potluck luncheon along with your $12 annual dues. Checks should be made payable to St. Paul.

Pro-Life Baby Shower Our Pro-Life Ministry is hosting a parish-wide baby shower June 18-19, for the Galveston County Pregnancy and Parenting Support Center. Items needed include diapers (larger sizes, especially), wipes, shampoo, baby clothes, strollers, play yards, Walmart and Target gift cards, and furniture. Questions? Contact Marilyn, [email protected], or 281.326.3799. Thank you for your support!

The workshop consists of a series of presentations, followed by questions for reflection, private couple time, and a brief communal prayer. There is no large group discussion or open sharing. Saturday goes from 8 AM -9 PM and includes a lovely romantic candlelight dinner. Sunday ends by 3 PM and includes Mass. The retreat takes place right in our parish facilities so that couples can sleep at home and simplify child care. The Church is the house and Body of Christ.

We have to take care of it.

Our festival is the largest fundraiser of the year and a big source of income for our church. Join this community effort to raise funds, allowing our parish to provide both physical and spiritual support to members of our community.

1 - Ask places you frequent for donations (i.e. your company, your suppliers, doctors, stylist, restaurants, etc.). Donations are to St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church. No donation is too big or too small and most donations are tax deductible. Examples for donations are gift cards, event tickets, auction items, certificates for services, checks, etc.

2 - Explain why donations are important St. Paul has been serving the Clear Lake community for over 50 years and has over 2,600 registered families. Any size contribution will help us continue to serve the community of Clear Lake

We appreciate your attention to this worthy cause. Your help and participation will make this Festival a great success!

We are always in need of help in all areas of the festival. If you are looking for a way to serve, this is a great opportunity. You are welcome to help the weekend of the festival or join the festival team and help us with planning and organizing this year's event.

We are in need of a Raffle Ticket Coordinator and

Facilities Coordinator. The Raffle Ticket Coordinator helps organize the weekly raffle ticket volunteers. The Facilities Coordinator prepares site plans, arranges for delivery of tents, tables, chairs, etc. For more information, please contact Cynthia Lopez at 832.687.6513.

Volume XVIII No. 1840 Eleventh Sunday In Ordinary Time June 12, 2016

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

281.333.2509 Office Hours: Tuesday – Wednesday,

9:30 - 11:30 AM Thursday: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

As we hear the Gospel today we realize that sometimes we are like Simon as it’s far easier to see what is wrong in another than it is to see what is wrong in ourselves. But Jesus, who accepts the poor woman without judging or blaming her, shows us what Christian love is all about.

Through your almsgiving you are performing a good work; far greater than you think. Your donations to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul bring Christ’s love and compassion to the poor.

And don’t forget the food pantry! School is out so it is more difficult for children who are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program during the school year to get the nourishment they need. So the Society of St. Vincent de Paul food pantry expects a higher demand during these months. We are also in need of paper good donations. Thank you for remembering and your generosity!
