With the arrival of autumn, please consider the use of Faith Direct if you have not registered yet. This is our

parish’s electronic eGiving program. To-do lists are lengthy for everyone with back-to-school and other fall activities. Using Faith Direct’s eGiving program will give you one less thing to remember each week – no more envelopes to find and checks to write before you go to Mass. Enroll today by visiting www.faithdirect.net and use our church code, (TX596), or pick up an enrollment form from the Forms Wall by the Welcome Center. Once you are set up on Faith Direct you can easily access donation summaries and also designate contributions to specific funds, like support of the Festival and building Funds. It’s a secure system, and parishioners that use it have given us very positive feedback regarding its use. .

Father Wencil

In today’s Gospel Jesus challenges us to “stay awake” by taking time to seriously look at ourselves, the priorities of our lives, and how we are growing spiritually. If your family is looking for an opportunity to put their faith into action, please consider the following: Do you own a Pick-up Truck? Would you be willing to transport food from the Houston Food Bank to St. Paul on an occasional (2-3 times a year) basis? We need truck drivers to make an occasional trip to the Houston Food Bank to pick up food for our pantry. The food is loaded into the truck by the HFB (I10/610), and pick up times are flexible, and Vincentians will unload the food at St. Paul. The HFB has evening as well as Saturday hours. If you would like to help, contact [email protected].

BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE November is traditionally a time for

praying, remembering and lighting a candle for the souls of all of our dear departed family members, parishioners,

friends and those who have nobody to pray for them. During the Month of November, our Church remembers our deceased loved ones. You may record in this book the names of your loved ones and friends, who passed away this past year, in our Book of Remembrance which is located in the narthex.

VETERAN’S DAY TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 11TH

Dear Lord, We pray for those who have served our nation and have laid down their lives to protect and defend our freedom. We pray for those who serve us now, especially for those in harm’s way. Shield them from danger and bring them home safely. In Jesus Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Remember that we have volunteers who have prepared a lesson with your child in mind and, of course, you have an awesome adult session to attend with our resident theologian, Julie Dienno-Demarest!

WHAT ARE ALL THE SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION PREPARATION SESSIONS GOING ON IN CHILDREN’S MINISTRY?

Here is a rundown of what we have going on in Children’s Ministry to assist children from 7 years old through High School to receive their Sacraments:

FIRST SACRAMENTS: If a child was baptized before 7 years of age and has been in CCE for at least a year they are eligible to begin preparation for 1st RECONCILIATION. This normally takes place in the Fall. After that process is complete they then enter preparation for 1ST COMMUNION which normally takes place in the Spring. Currently we have 69 children in this program.

FOUNDATIONS: If a child is in 6th grade through 12th grade and was baptized before 7 years of age but has not been in CCE for several years then they are placed in Foundations. Each child is normally interviewed so we know what the best process is for them to follow in their preparation for 1st Reconciliation and 1st Communion. Often we have them attend a Foundations class for a Semester so they can learn the basics and then go to both age appropriate CCE as well as classes to prepare for the Sacraments. Currently we have 16 youth in this program.

RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults adapted for Children) This is a 2 year process for unbaptized children. The 1st year they attend Mass and go to Breaking Open the Word as well as a Catechetical Session on Sundays. In the 2nd year they attend Breaking Open the Word on Sunday and a regular CCE class. At Easter Vigil of their 2nd year they receive Baptism, Confirmation and 1st Communion. We currently have 18 children preparing for Easter Vigil 2015!

Sidewalk Counseling Training On Monday, November 11, at 7 PM in Beck Hall, Teresa Camara from Houston Coalition for Life will provide training on how to lovingly and prayerfully sidewalk counsel those women and couples considering an abortion. Counseling emphasizes help and hope, never criticism or shame. The training will guide counselors to reach out to those facing unexpected pregnancies with compassion, to offer information on local assistance to mothers in need, and to affirm the dignity of all human life. By witnessing to clinic-bound women and couples on the sidewalk, counselors have a last opportunity to share a positive message and connect those wanting to keep their child with supportive community resources.
