Society of St. Vincent de Paul 281.333.2509

    Office Hours: Tuesday – Wednesday, 9:30 - 11:30 AM Thursday: 6:00 – 8:00 PM

In the Gospel today Jesus moved with pity, touched the leper and healed him. Let us pray today for the grace to be generous with our gifts to help those who are suffering. By your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you indeed put your faith into action as you bring healing to the poor, hungry and weeping.

Through your gifts… The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to provide the following assistance in the month of December: Number of Households Assisted: 98 Food $2,261 = 65 Families, 214 people (118 children) Rent: $5,715 = 31 Families Utilities: $4,253 = 34 Families Home Visits: 8 Vincentians also logged 107 hours of service and 307 miles during the month of December.

Cub Scout Pack # 389 collected 450 lbs. of food for the SVDP Pantry!

A huge THANK YOU goes to the members of Pack 389 for their hard work and loving hearts! They conducted a food drive, collected over $600 worth of food, and delivered it to the pantry on Super Bowl Sunday! You are the best!

Family activities to assist our neighbors in need: • Write letters of hope and encouragement to those whom we

serve. Drop off the letters at the SVDP office or at the St. Paul’s Welcome Center and ask they be placed in our mail box.

    • Say a prayer or a rosary for our neighbors and for our Vincentians.

    • Collect information on job opportunities in the area and post it on the bulletin board outside the SVDP Office.

    • Pick one item to be donated to the food pantry weekly (ex. soup, toothpaste, diapers, shampoo) and add it to your weekly shopping list.

Liturgy and Worship Liturgia y Culto

    ASH WEDNESDAY February 18, 2015

8:30 AM Mass & Ashes (English) 12:00 PM Liturgy of the Word & Ashes (English) 7:00 PM Bilingual Mass & Ashes 8:30 PM Liturgy of the Word & Ashes (Spanish) ****************************************** Stations of the Cross St. Paul Church continues the Friday evening devotion of the Stations of the Cross services during Lent, (except for Good Friday) at 7:00 PM in English and 8:00 PM in Spanish. It is appropriate to bring children to participate. Please come as a family to pray together.

I walked outside and looked at the backyard. To my amazement, most of the plants I put in last year were gone. The weather did me in, again. My spiritual life is about in the same condition as the plants—stressed. It is good that Lent is here to get things in order spiritually and growing again. I need more time with God so I may become renewed. This Lent I am going to read more scripture and concentrate on the way Jesus handled temptation. I need all the help I can get. My desire this Lent is that when the trees begin to blossom out, that my spiritual life will do the same. WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.

As outlined on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' website on Lenten fasting and abstinence, "fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year.

If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the 'paschal fast' to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.

Fridays in Lent are obligatory days of complete abstinence (from meat) for all who have completed their 14th year.

The Chapel candle burns in loving memory of John O’Neill at the request of his family.

Adult Ministry and Faith formation: Because Our Faith is too rich and beautiful to have ever learned it All…Contact Heidi Clark, Director of Adult Ministry, 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected]

Adult faith formation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living “The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have learned along the way.

Rediscover Catholicism Study Families who visited St. Paul for any Christmas Masses were given a free copy of Matthew Kelly’s best-selling book, Rediscover Catholicism as a way to help re-ignite their faith.

Groups are currently forming to read the book together and discuss insights from it. Contact Heidi Clark to participate: [email protected] or 281.333.3891, Ext. 328.

Rejecting Materialism and Embracing Christian Stewardship: How to Live

Out the 10th Commandment Greed is a constant threat to moral behavior. The Tenth Commandment specifically calls us to practice poverty of spirit and generosity of heart. Doing so liberates us from being slaves to

money and possessions. In a busy, complicated world, what specific steps can you take to accomplish this? Find out by attending our next adult catechism program set for Tuesday, February 24, at 7:30 PM in Room 10. Discussions are facilitated by author, teacher and theologian, Julie Dienno-Demarest. Adult catechism sessions stand independently of one another; attend as often as you like. They are open to anyone interested in learning more about our faith. If you can’t attend this session, mark your calendar for the next one set for Tuesday, March 10: The Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of Prayer in the Catholic Tradition.

Are you Interested in Becoming Catholic?

The process of becoming a Catholic is called the RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The RCIA is a process of coming to know Jesus Christ on a personal level and growing in readiness and commitment to be part of the Catholic Christian community. Find out more by contacting Heidi Clark at [email protected].

Creighton NFP Intro Sessions St. Paul offers monthly introductory sessions to the Creighton Method of Natural Family Planning and Fertility Care. Upcoming sessions are scheduled

Why do we SACRIFICE for LENT? Lent is a season of conversion and renewal…like Spring Cleaning for your soul. Let’s say you’re like the rest of us and prone to sin: fasting and sacrificing a bad habit or a simple pleasure gives your body control over sin and vice, plus it helps you prepare your heart for the resurrection of Christ at Easter. It’s about discipline, like training for a sport. Here are some ideas about what you can sacrifice for Lent. Be bold, be courageous, and make this the best Lent of your life (source: Lifeteen.com). • Snacking between meals • Instagram filters • Using emojis instead of sharing how you really feel

    • The phrase “I can’t even.” • Only talking to Jesus when you need something

    • Wearing clothes that are too tight and draw attention to your body.

    • Using the word “bae”

    • Texting • Complaining • Pride. Pray the Litany of Humility

every day. • Gossip. Instead, write affirmation

notes every day. • If you occasionally look at or are

addicted to porn, sign up for convenanteyes.com

    • If you’re wasteful, volunteer at a soup kitchen to help out.

    • Using the word “can’t” • Bad jokes • Words that don’t glorify God. • Snapchat • Making excuses not to go to Mass or

daily Mass • Energy drinks • Checking your phone every 30

seconds • Pretending you don’t have time to go

    to Adoration

NO EDGE on Monday! Make sure you come to the Lent Event on Ash Wednesday, and go to Mass or a Liturgy of the Word. Get your forms in for camp, and make sure you sacrifice something good for Lent!

Want to have a weekend you’ll never forget? Join over one hundred other Catholic Jr. High students from the area and get ready to find out why the Catholic Faith is Epic. Get your form from the Info Center by the Youth Room! Participation Fee: $155 (includes lodging, activities, food, t-shirt, and EVERYTHING!) After March 1, fee increases to $175!

Welcome to SPACE!“…dedicated to bringing teens into relationship with Jesus Christ, and empowering young people to become disciples of Him in their everyday life through study of scripture, catechesis and service…”
