It’s TRINITY SUNDAY A big question Christians had to answer was how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit were one God. This issue was vigorously debated in the fourth and fifth centuries. The Nicene Creed was written during this time. By the eighth century some people were celebrating a Mass in honor of the Trinity. Others argued against such a Mass by pointing out that every liturgy is a celebration of the Trinity. Nonetheless, in 1334 Pope John XXII established the devotional Mass for the whole Church. Trinity Sunday is one of the few solemnities that doesn’t celebrate a person or an event but doctrine.

In what ways is this passage suitable for Trinity Sunday? THE GOSPEL READING But they doubted Although Jesus’ closest disciples now meet him in his risen state, their faith is still imperfect. Earlier in this Gospel Matthew touched on the subject of weak faith (6:30, 14:31). Even people who accept Jesus question his identity and his promises. Matthew reassures us that while we should always strive for greater faith, doubts are normal Where the church is, Jesus is Other Jewish teachers and leaders contested Jesus’ claim to be speaking for God. The Resurrection shows that God stands behind all that Jesus taught. Here Jesus commands his disciples – for the first time in Matthew’s Gospel – to teach, too. As long as the disciples teach what Jesus commands, the risen Jesus is the authority behind their words.

The Children’s Rosary is a lay prayer group for children. It is composed of children and led by children. It is a means for parents to expose their children to the prayer of the Holy Rosary at an early age and develop a faith steeped in the Tradition of the Catholic Church. This prayer group movement for children was begun in 2011 by Blythe Kaufman, a homeschooling mother of three. Word began to spread about the Children’s Rosary and soon more groups began to form around the United States. Over time new groups in Kenya, Great Britain, Australia, Angola, Canada, Ecuador, Pakistan, Timor Leste, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and the Philippines followed. Recently, the Children’s Rosary® prayer group celebrated its 6th anniversary. With so many challenges facing children today, the Children’s Rosary is a place of support, a place for children can come to pray with other children and have other children pray for them. Between 5-10 Children’s Rosary groups meet per day around the world, each of them lifting the other members in prayer. In this way, all the members of the Children’s Rosary are covered in a blanket of prayers each day. The Children’s Rosary has a Mass offered for all members each month. All children between the ages of 4-14 are invited to participate in the Children’s Rosary Prayer Group. Although this is the target age, no child with an interest to participate will be turned away. Of special note are children with disabilities who may be older in age. Parents and other adults are also encouraged to attend. They are the special “guardian angels” of this group. Through prayer of the Rosary, Our Lady will guide our young people while at the same time, sanctify our families and parish. Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests
The Church is requested to observe a World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests on the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In response to that request, the Bay Area Deanery Council of Catholic Women, the St. Paul Vocations Committee and Serra Club will sponsor a Holy Hour from 9-10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Parish on Friday, June 11th, following 8:30 a.m. Mass. We will be reciting the Rosary and additional prayers. Each of the 5 decades will remember by name priests from our deanery parishes, Shrine of the True Cross and those that serve the Christian Renewal Center. We will also be praying for our Cardinal, Bishops and the rector at St. Mary Seminary. All are welcome to attend.
