    Kathy Corbett, Director of Music

281-333-3891 Ext. 332 or [email protected]

Attention Musicians! Do you play piano, guitar, or other instrument? Do you sing? Our vibrant music ministry is looking for volunteers to help lead and enhance the music at our Masses. If you're interested in serving, contact Kathy at [email protected] or by calling the church office (see number above). I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. Psalm 69

Sound Volunteers Needed! The Sound Ministry helps configure the sound in the church for Masses and other special events. This ministry is a great way to work behind the scenes and serve your parish community. All training will be provided. If you’re willing to serve in this ministry, please contact Kathy at [email protected].

Preparing for Advent and Christmas As we prepare our music for the Advent & Christmas seasons, we are looking for instrumentalists to en-hance our music. If you play a string or wind instrument and would like to share your talent with our community during Advent and/or Christmas, please contact Kathy at [email protected] to arrange an informal audition. Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dancing. Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Psalm 150 Waiting in Joyful Hope, An Advent Taizé Prayer

Service, December 20 at 7 PM Mark your calendars now for a moving and reflective Taizé prayer service as we prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. A Taizé prayer service is a contemplative service that involves singing, scripture reading, meditation, and periods of silence. The short texts are sung again and again, using repetition as a basis for meditation. It becomes the unending song that continues in one’s mind, long after one has stopped singing. Various other instrumental or vocal parts may embellish the basic chorale or round. Taizé sung prayer as a holy hour is a marvelous way to experience a peaceful emersion in both song and silence, where one can encounter Christ. The Taizé Community is an ecumenical monastic order in southern France and is composed of more than one hundred brothers, from Catholic and Protestant traditions, who come from approximately thirty countries around the world. It was founded in 1940 by Brother Roger Schutz.

LITURGY AND WORSHIP LITURGIA Y CULTO

Joyce Lubofsky [email protected] 281.333.3891 Ext. 333

    SOME LITURGICAL UPDATES

Starting next Sunday, November 27th, the First Sunday of Advent, you will notice some minor changes at Mass: after the distribution of Communion is complete, the cups and bowls used will be returned to the Chapel sacristy by the Eucharistic Ministers and purified after Mass by the Deacon. This is one of the options offered in the General Instruction on the Roman Missal and will smooth the flow of the Mass a little bit. Also, at Sunday 5 PM Mass, the transfer of the Blessed Sacrament will take place from the Church Altar to the Chapel Altar at the end of Holy Communion. Thus we will show ever more clearly that the Lord we adore in Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is one and the same Lord whom we receive in Holy Communion. Effective 2017, all liturgical ministers will have two year terms of service. At the end of their term, each minister will take a one year respite from the ministry to reflect upon how God is calling that person to serve the parish family of St. Paul and the wider Church. If deemed best, the minister can request to resume that ministry after the one year.

ADVENT BEGINS NEXT WEEKEND! Here is the schedule for Advent Penance Services throughout the Deanery (all except St. Luke take place at 7 PM): St. Paul Monday, Nov. 28th, St Helen Dec. 1, St Bernadette Dec. 5, Mary Queen Dec. 6, St Mary Dec. 13, St Clare Dec. 15, and St Luke—10 AM on Dec.17. There will be NO CONFESSIONS at St. Paul on Tuesdays and Thursdays which conflict with these Penance Services.

2017 MASS BOOK OPEN You may visit the Welcome Center during regular office hours to arrange for the offering of Masses (up to 3 intentions will be accepted for each Mass, except those Sunday Masses offered for the People of the Parish). You may also make arrangements to offer weekend flowers, weekly bread & wine, and weekly altar/sanctuary candles.

Thank you Cathie Foley for the donation of the altar flowers and candles on November 6, to celebrate the originally proposed Armistice Day Commemorations: “prayer and exercised

    designed to perpetuate peace…”

Silver Linings Bible Study group will meet in

Rooms 10/11 at 1 PM Thursday, December 1st.

There will be one Mass on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th, at 9 AM after which the entire parish facility will close until 3 PMon Saturday, November 26th, to allow Father Wencil and the entire staff to spend the holiday with their families. Please bring with you to Mass a loaf of bread and place it in the baskets around the sanctuary. Ministry and Continuing Education for Adults Because Our Faith is too Rich to have ever Learned it All…

Contact Heidi Clark, Director of Adult Ministry, 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected] for more information. Adult faith formation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living

“The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the

faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a

diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have

    learned along the way.

Baptism Volunteers Needed This is a volunteer need that doesn’t take a lot of time but can make a HUGE difference in the lives of those you minister to. Our baptism ministry team is in need of parents to help prepare parents and godparents as they seek baptism for their children. The classes meet one Sunday afternoon every other month. Training and all materials are provided. Easy peasy. Contact Heidi at [email protected] to volunteer.

Lenten Parish Mission We are pleased to announce that our Lenten parish mission will feature nationally-known evangelist and author Jon Leonetti. He will be presenting three evenings: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, April 2-4, 2017. Topics he’ll address include who God is and why that matters, saints and scripture, and how to emulate the saints in our daily lives. Each session will last from 7-8:15 PM. Mark your calendars now and start inviting friends and family to join you. The event is free but an offering will be collected.

Pope Francis: A Weak Fragile Sinner

“What can I, a weak fragile sinner, do? God says to you: do not be afraid of holiness, do not be afraid to aim high, to let yourself be loved and purified by God, do not be afraid to let yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit. Let us be infected by the holiness of God. It is the meeting of our weakness with the strength of His grace; it is having faith in His action that allows us to live in charity, to do everything with joy and humility, for the glory of God and as a service to our neighbor.”

    General Audience, Oct. 2, 2013

At St. Paul, our Divorce Care Group exists to help one another do just that. This is a Catholic peer-ministry support group that addresses the stress, anger, blame and guilt of divorce and leads participants toward forgiveness, happiness and growth. The 14-session program begins Monday, November 28, at 7 PM in the conference room. Cost is $30 and financial assistance is available. Free childcare is provided when reservations are made in advance. The program will be facilitated by Laura Hicks, LMFT with the assistance of others who have already completed the program. We will resume our normal meeting schedule in January, meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 3:00 - 5:00 PM in Parlor A. Gift Giving Weekend is Coming! December 10-11

Help give the gift of a very special Christmas to local youngsters in need. Last year, with your help, Interfaith Caring Ministries provided more than 500 children with toys to make the holiday season bright. We are asking for your help again this year on Saturday, December 10, and Sunday, December 11, also known as “Gift Giving Sunday”.

Parishioners are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for a local child in need. Donations will be collected by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul volunteers at each Mass (Saturday and Sunday) and delivered to the ICM Christmas Store for distribution to our neighbors in need.

Together we can help the suffering and poor to celebrate the love of Christ during this Christmas season.

    God bless you.
