What can we learn from today’s Gospel?…. Jesus explains He must be number one in our lives before all others, even our parents. He knows that following Him is not an easy path, but our eternal

reward is worth any sacrifice. Teens, be the light of the world for all to see!

Encourage each other to stand up for our faith and each other.

O God, who through the grace of adoption chose us to be children of light, grant, we pray, that we may not be wrapped in the darkness of error but always be seen to stand in the bright light of truth. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

recompensa eterna vale cualquier sacrificio.

vean!

Adult Ministry and Faith Formation: Because our faith is too rich and too beautiful to have ever learned it all…

Adult faith formation at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living “The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have learned along the way.

Adult Ministry at St. Paul’s—Meeting you Wherever you Are

St. Paul’s offers a wide variety of ministries and programs to help community members grow in faith regardless of where they are on their journeys. If you are someone just returning to the faith, we have a small group for you. If you are interested in learning more about becoming Catholic, we have something for you, too. If you are active in your faith but feel like you have still more growth to achieve, we have programs for you, too. All these programs are being offered online using Zoom. If you have a need that you think we aren’t meeting, let us know so we can work together to help accomplish that. Contact Heidi for more info: [email protected] or 281-333-3891, ext. 328.

For those Considering Catholicism Our RCIA program is created specifically to welcome seekers at any time throughout the year. If you feel like God is calling you to learn more about becoming Catholic, now is a great time to respond to that call. Our RCIA program is currently meeting online, and we have options to help regardless of what your availability might be. Contact Heidi at [email protected] or call 281-333-3891, ext. 328.

Gathering Place Goes Drive-Thru: Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

The Gathering Place, our free monthly day activity program for people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, has not been able to meet since March. This has left many families to deal with the complexities of caregiving on their own, without support or respite. Our St. Paul Gathering Team came up with a fun plan to offer a drive-thru Gathering Place experience in the parking lot last week. Volunteers staffed contactless stations where our friends participated in fun games from the safety of their own cars. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers and other members of the wider NASA community for coming together to make this possible.

Congratulations, New Catholics! In the last several weeks, we joyfully have welcomed nine new Catholics who, after completing their journeys through RCIA, have either been baptized into the faith or made Professions of Faith after having been baptized in another religion. We are grateful for the beauty and richness that each of these individuals brings to our faith community. Congratulations Dylan Chagoya, Virginia Frank, Adelynne Guerra, Matt Higgs, Estevan Leyva, Rey Lopez, Steven Murray, Michael Karousos, and Josue Parr.

Updates from ACTS Regular ACTS events have been an ongoing part of community life at St. Paul’s for 15 years. Except for a brief interruption following Hurricane Harvey, this is the first time that our church community has had to postpone a significant portion of the ministerial and community events that ACTS offers our parish family. To date, the women’s July retreat in English, the men’s September retreat in English, and the annual Men Who Cook fund raiser have all been cancelled or postponed. The ACTS Core Team agreed that keeping the health and well-being of community members is of utmost importance. Team members are working on an alternative community building event for everyone and also are committed to supporting our annual parish festival in every way possible.

Men’s Friday Rise Continues Despite the need for social distancing, many groups and ministries continue to meet online and in other, creative ways. Among them is the weekly men’s Rise group which meets online via Zoom from 7-8 a.m. on Friday mornings. They discuss that weekend’s scripture readings, opportunities for service, and share aspects of their faith journeys. If you’d like more information about joining them, contact Marcus at 832-250-3897 or Brian at 713-560-8412. Newcomers are always welcome!

Papa Benedicto XVI

“Extend mercy toward others, so there can be no one whom you meet without helping…” – St. Vincent de Paul

In 1833, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam founded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul along with 6 friends. To fund the activities to help the poor, they took a secret collection using a black bag. They passed it from person to person until each one had given their share. Because the Society does not receive DSF funding, Bishop Markovsky allowed us to have our first Black Bag collection in 1970; 50 years later, we continue the tradition of the Black Bag Collection. We ask that you to join and donate to our Annual Black Bag Collection July 11-12, 2020.

Stewardship Reflection

13th Sunday of Ordinary Time That we use our gifts in the way that God intended for us.us. “…whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.” Mt 10:38 “The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort, you were made for greatness”. “Comfort” puts me first. “Picking up your cross and following Jesus” puts God and others first. Why settle for comfort when you can achieve greatness! Pick up your cross, ask Jesus for guidance on using your gifts and live the life God intended for you! Pope Benedict XVI
