Seeking to Know, Grow In, and Show the Ways of Jesus

Letter from the Pastor

Dear Friends,

It’s been a good October at St. Paul’s. Everyone seems to be happily busy working together for the good of the

church. The Soup and Stew Dinner had folks chopping and browning. Another crew was decorating and setting up the

craft table. All the while the quilters were busy stitching and finishing their latest work of art. It’s been a joy to see

everyone hard at work and play. From Sunday morning to Friday evening it seems there is always something wonderful

happening at St. Paul’s. I think helpful and energetic must be typical for you. I can’t think of a time in the life of the

church when something has gone undone or has been left unattended.

One of the things I want to attend to while I am at St. Paul’s is “listening to you.” I have a lot to learn about your

history and expectations of me. I want to listen for your sorrows and regrets, your ideas and hopes. The Council and I are

taking a couple of Sundays after worship to have some “Coffee and Conversation.” We are trying to identify some of the

needs of the congregation and then hopefully brainstorm ways to address them. At some point we may try to plan a

brainstorming session for the congregation. Until then, however, know that my door is always open and I am willing to

listen to whatever is on your mind.

I have a few notes of thanks. I want to thank the congregation and whoever figured out that October was clergy

appreciation month. The bouquet of flowers was absolutely beautiful. I wish you hadn’t gone to the trouble, but since you

did, I want you to know how much I appreciated your thoughtfulness. I also want to thank you for the week you gave me

to attend the “Mediation Skills Training” in Kansas City. The training was put on by the Lombard Mennonite Peace

Center. “The Center provides unique programs in Christian peacemaking to churches, schools, and community groups.” It

was a very intense week of small group discussion, role-playing, information gathering, lecture, and study. I’d like to say I

came out of it an expert in mediation, but the truth is, the main thing I learned was how much more I need to learn. Still,

the experience was invaluable, and I thank you for making it possible.

Looking forward, I can see we are headed toward a wonderfully busy November. There will be a wedding here

November 2 between Angela Hardin and Anthony Nadler. November 9 will be a veteran’s appreciation worship.

November 10-15 Carl and I will be in Ohio watching grandchildren. Totenfest will be November 23. We have been

invited to a Tuesday evening Thanksgiving worship at Charrette Baptist Church. Then Advent begins Sunday, November

30. These are busy times at St. Paul’s—happily so, I pray. In closing I am reminded of some words from Psalm 144.15:

“Happy are the people to whom such blessings fall; happy are the people whose God is the Lord.”

Many Blessings,

Pastor Donna

Extra Step for November: PREGNANCY ASSISTANCE CENTER—PAC PAC is a ministry whose primary purpose is to save the lives of unborn babies while also assisting the

families with their many other needs - providing vitamins, educational information on child care, anger

management, nutrition, etc. PAC works with “Love Basket” if adoption services are required. Be

watching the lobby and announcements in the bulletin for further information on how you can make

Christmas special for some family or a child this year.

Sunday School is well underway for the new “school year,” and the students are

having a great time. We will be practicing for the Sunday School Christmas pro-

gram during the last portion of the class time through the end of the year. The

program is scheduled for Sunday, December 21st at 7pm. Mark your calendars

now!! We always welcome new students, so please spread the word!

An adult Sunday School class is planned for the season of Advent. Classes

begin Sunday, Nov. 30th, and run through the Advent season, immediately following

church services, in the parlor. NOTE: The young adult class will meet in the room

behind the organ during Advent.

The missions committee is looking

for someone to lead the

Helping Hands ministry.

Contact Amy Lange with

questions and inquiries.

Quilters are encouraged to join us. All are welcome; participants need not be a member of St. Paul’s to stitch with us. Quilters meet on Mondays 10am-4:30pm and Thursdays 1-4:30pm. Encourage fellow quilters you know to come join us! Also, if anyone wishes to learn to quilt, this would be an excellent opportunity.

Sunday Morning Fellowship A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the service of worship during Sunday School classes. There is a sign-up sheet in the lobby for those who are able to assist with the coffee, lemonade, and donuts; otherwise, contact Kay Buhr or Cindy Buescher to volunteer. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Beef Stew & Soup Dinner Update

This fund raiser meal was a success. A big thanks to all who helped in any way. We had a lot of handmade crafted items in the country store. This event raised $1054.02 after expenses. The meal was delicious, and we served 103 people. Job well done, Stew & Soup committee!!

Military Photos

During an upcoming service of worship, we would like to honor our veterans. Please

submit military photos to Amy Lange, of members who have served or who

are currently serving, to be scanned for a slide show.

Be sure to mark your photos so they can be

returned.

Buildings & Grounds

Committee will post a list of jobs that did not get accomplished on the last workday. If you are able to assist with any of these, please let a Bldgs. & Grounds Committee member know.

October’s cemetery workday revealed a large amount of work still needing to be done. Many of the stones have shifted and are in need of special cleaning. Be watching for future work day announcements.

it. There are still a few places where we need volunteers; these are denoted in red

type. Please contact a member of the church council if you are interested in filling any

of these openings. Again, thank you.
