Seeking to Know, Grow In, and Show the Ways of Jesus

PRAYER AND CONFLICT

Read Matthew 5:43-46

Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your

enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” - Matthew 5:43-

44 (NRSV)

Although I had been a schoolteacher at a rural school for a long time, one day I found myself in a

predicament. Part of the faculty thought the school board was right when they fired a member of the

faculty. But some, like me, felt he shouldn’t have been dismissed. Battle lines were drawn, and people

on both sides were on edge. Many citizens of the community stopped talking to their old friends. I

dreaded going to work.

Then I began to read the Bible more and realized that God didn’t want us to take sides and to be

angry with each other. When I prayed that both groups would get along, I was amazed how my feelings

changed. Over a period of time, I found that I couldn’t remain angry at someone I was praying for. So,

I prayed for all involved, especially those with whom I differed. My concern spilled over until I wanted

only the best for them.

As I continued to pray for the welfare of everybody involved, my tense feelings disappeared.

Peace came into my heart. Soon my old friendships were alive once more.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us not get so caught up in differences of opinion that we forget to care for

everybody involved. Help us remember we are sisters and brothers, children of your family. Amen.

Buildings & Grounds

Several members of the Buildings & Grounds committee, as well as other church members have been diligently working to solve an issue involving the drain between the church sanctuary and the fellowship hall (near the air conditioning units). Many thanks

for their continuous dedication to solving the problem.

Vacation Bible School

VBS will be held July 14-18, 2014, from 9am-12noon. Anyone interested in volunteering

The cost is $10 per child. A BIG thanks to those who have already stepped

forward to volunteer! Thanks to Wilma for coordinating this event. An organizational meeting is scheduled for all volunteers on Monday, June 9, ’14 at 7pm at the church. Your willingness to serve will

make VBS a wonderful experience for all.

A Nursery Coordinator is needed— This individual would coordinate nursery coverage

during church services, work with the nursery

volunteers to keep the nursery supplies stocked, keep

the toys in good working order, organize cleaning of

the nursery room, etc. If you are interested, please

contact the church office. The nursery (located in

room #104) is for children ages birth through 3 years.

If you would like to be a nursery volunteer, the sign-

up sheet is in the lobby.

Morning LIGHT Families

I have enjoyed being a part of the children's lives these past years. Each Sunday was the

highlight of my week. I have learned so much by teaching. My faith has grown stronger and my

personal relationship with Christ has also grown.

Throughout my life, I have tried to do what God wants me to do by the leading of the Holy

Spirit. I began teaching, not because I had prior teaching experience but because I felt the Lord

challenging me to do more. I am so glad that I acted upon those feelings and was a part of this

ministry. It has been my honor to serve with this ministry team.

I feel that my time here has come to an end. As of May 18th, 2014 I will no longer be a part of

the Christian Ed Committee and I will not be teaching at St. Paul's again next year. I do not know

where God is leading me but I am going to let the Holy Spirit guide me. God planned for each of

us to cross paths for a reason. I feel my life has been made better because I have known each of

you and the children that I have had the privilege to serve. I wish you all the blessings that God

has to be poured out upon you.

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." Proverbs 16:3

Blessings,

Shannon

Christian Education Committee is looking for members. Participation would involve working with

the pastor, Sunday school classes and teachers, nursery attendants, and

the general operation of the children’s and adult’s Christian Education classes and

events. It might also include working with confirmation classes as well. Anyone

interested should contact Amy Lange or Megan Zeh.

A NOTE OF THANKS to Marilyn Erisman and Sally Ploof for keeping track and recording weekly attendance this past year.
