Seeking to Know, Grow In, and Show the Ways of Jesus
Church News
The church council has been working very hard these past six weeks, and we have accomplished a great deal.
We have had an overwhelming amount of support from our church members—we truly are a family here at St. Paul’s
and have very strong bonds.
The interim pastor committee has met several times, has reviewed all of the interim pastor profiles that have
been available to us, and has interviewed a number of candidates. The church council is currently working on a written
contract for a possible interim pastor. More information will be relayed as it becomes available.
A full search committee has been formed (to call a settled pastor). Many thanks to all who have volunteered to
fill the positions on all of St. Paul’s committees. All committees/members are listed on page 7 of this newsletter. We
still need a nursery coordinator and nursery attendants for the 2nd
and 3rd
Sundays of each month. We are also looking
for a Sunday School teacher for the high school aged students as well as someone to lead an adult Sunday School class.
Anyone who is interested in any of these positions should contact Terri Ogle or Megan Zeh.
Vacation Bible School was a huge success! Many thanks to Wilma Zeh for stepping forward to organize and
chair this event. She did an amazing job putting such an undertaking together in a matter of five weeks. A tremendous
outpouring of help from many church and community members made the week go ever so smoothly. We had 61
children participate in the week’s activities. A special thanks to Glenda Eichmeyer and her search dog for treating us to
some education and entertainment. The two were a big hit at VBS! All children and volunteers thoroughly enjoyed the
week. A full list of the volunteers appears on page 6 of this newsletter. The mission project was collecting school
supplies for students of the Marthasville Elementary School—over 700 items were collected.
As of July 21st, Karen Nye has stepped down as youth fellowship leader; therefore, there is an immediate
opening for someone (or a couple) to lead this ministry. We have many youth within the church and community; there
is great potential for a nice-sized group. Due to financial constraints, this position will be a non-paid, voluntary
position—an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with youth. Anyone who is interested should contact a
member of the church council.
Sunday School classes will resume on September 7th at 10:45am, immediately following the 9:30am service of
worship and a brief time of fellowship and refreshments. Please spread the word. The Christian Education committee
has been busy planning the year’s program.
The church council is looking for fund raising ideas for St. Paul’s UCC. Please submit any fund raising ideas
you may have to the council members by Sunday, August 3rd
, as the council will be discussing these at the August
council meeting.
The annual chicken dinner will be held on Sunday, September 21st. A committee has been formed to
coordinate the event. Sign-up sheets are in the hallway—we will need everyone’s help with this annual event. Anyone
who has items (home-made, hand-made, or otherwise) that could be donated to our country store would be most
appreciated.
Again, many thanks to all of our devout church family for the extra ordinary support you repeatedly show. Its
members are what makes St. Paul’s UCC what it is—the glue that holds it all together.
May God continue to shower St. Paul’s UCC with his many blessings,
St. Paul’s UCC Church Council

August Extra Step - Our Church’s Wider Mission “OCWM”
OCWM Basic Support funds vital ministries to local churches and Conferences. Congregations send their OCWM gifts to the Conference. The Conference decides what percentage of gifts to keep, and what percentage to send to the national setting of the UCC. We at St. Paul's Church Marthasville, support OCWM in the following ways: A percentage of our general fund is given each month to OCWM, contributions from individuals in our church throughout the year, and all extra step donations during August. Visit them on the web: www.ucc.org/ocwm

and donuts; otherwise, contact Kay Buhr or Cindy Buescher to volunteer. Thank you in advance for your participation.
VBS Update
A big thank you to the 40+
volunteers who created a great week of Vacation Bible School! Also thanks to those who contributed money, craft items, snacks and many other things to make this a successful adventure. We couldn't have done it without everyone's help and positive attitude. A special thanks to Wilma Zeh for coordinating this event. Children attending numbered over 60—an enthusiastic bunch! Their mission project was school supplies to benefit the Marthasville Elementary School students. Over 700 items were collected. What a wonderful week!! All who participated had a great time!
(continued on pg. 6)
A Nursery Coordinator is needed— This individual would coordinate nursery coverage during
church services, work with the nursery volunteers to keep
the nursery supplies stocked, keep the toys in good working
order, organize cleaning of the nursery room, etc. If you
are interested, please contact Terri Ogle or Megan Zeh.
The nursery (located in room #104) is for children ages
birth through 3 years. We are also needing nursery
volunteers for the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of each month.
