Travel, ball games, bbq’s and the 4 th of July are all either ongoing or have been finished. We’re getting into the dog days of summer and all of the events are in full swing. People come and go, and it seems like the goings on can fluctuate wildly here. There is a lot of moving pieces over the summer. But we still have people here who make sure the church runs. We still have events and things that go on here throughout the summer. We still have events that need attention and volunteers. Church life continues to move even if we take vacation or have other things that may divide our attention. The upside is we have a lot of people to do that. People who look after the church, people who put in the work producing worship materials, people who set up events so that we have some fun things to do here, and a lot of other volunteers who do a lot that quite frankly goes unnoticed in the church. I’m very grateful for those people. I know that we have people who are more than willing to step up and do work when asked, but there are also a lot of people just quietly doing the little things that keep the church running and the day to day operations going. I truly appreciate the people who do that work. It’s quite a lot, and it takes a lot to keep this going, especially during the leaner times of the year as far as attendance and events. It makes my life a lot easier to know we have people here I can rely on, and if something comes up, I don’t have to worry about what is going to happen. One of the greatest blessings a pastor can have is people who don’t just stand and watch, but who jump into the work. It is wonderful to see and is amazing to know that I just need to ask and that things will get donenot only that, but that the church will keep running smoothly. So, as we go into the leaner time of the year, and we have these periods of time where people are in and out, I want to say thank you. I really appreciate the willingness to work and the dependence that I know I have, especially during these more active times. To everyone who does those little things, know that your work is seen, and is also appreciated. Truly. See you in the pews, Pastor Jeff

A Loving Church, Making a Difference in the World

Letter from the Pastor

Summer is here officially. Travel, ball games, bbq’s and the 4th of July are all either ongoing or have been finished. It is wonderful to see and is amazing to know that I just need to ask and that things will get done—not only that, but that the church will keep running smoothly. So, as we go into the leaner time of the year, and we have these periods of time where people are in and out, I want to say thank you. I really appreciate the willingness to work and the dependence that I know I have, especially during these more active times. USA NATIONAL SYMBLOLS

National Flag: Stars and Stripes The national flag of the United States of America has fifty stars (representing 50 states) on the background of blue and 13 stripes (representing 13 colonies that rebelled against British rule and became the first states of the Union) in red and white. Red stands for hardiness and valor. White symbolizes purity and innocence. Blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.

National Bird: Bald Eagle A large brown bird, with a white head and a sharp pointing beak is the Bald eagle. It was adopted as the national bird of the country for its association with the calibers of authority, strength, beauty, long life, and as an apt symbol of governmental power. It is both the national animal and the national bird of the United States. Its high flight in the sky symbolizes the might and power of the nation. It appears on the nation’s emblem.

National Flower: Rose This was declared to be the national flower in a ceremony held at the White House Rose Garden. In 1986, President Ronald Reagan’s signing of a resolution gave it the status officially.

National Tree: Oak In 2004, after the President signed the historic bill passed by the Congress, the Oak tree was officially recognized as the national tree of the United States.

National Emblem: Great Seal of the USA

National Motto: “In God, We Trust” “In God, We Trust” was adopted to be the motto of the U.S. in 1952 by a joint resolution of the Congress. It replaced the common but unofficial motto of ‘E pluribus unum’ (Latin for ‘one out of many’) that is inscribed on the great seal. It appeared on the country’s coins in 1864. The motto was printed on paper currency (one-dollar note) in 1957.

National Sport: Baseball Baseball is known as the national pastime of the U.S. Americans feel it to be a part of their culture. It was the predominant sport played by the young before the game of football was established and became popular. It was in the late 19th century, when baseball came to be recognized as the national sport. GO CARDS!

National Monument: Statue of Liberty The formal title of the statue is “Liberty enlightening the world”. It is a gift of friendship given by France in 1886, to commemorate 100 years of independence of the United States. The statue of liberty, located in New York Harbor, depicts the Roman goddess of Freedom. The value of liberty is expressed through the broken chain lying at the feet of the goddess. Symbol of Freedom: Liberty Bell The liberty bell is regarded as the international symbol of freedom witnessing the Independence Hall, Philadelphia. Although most people only know the first verse, the national anthem actually has four verses. The following is the complete version of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” showing spelling and punctuation from Francis Scott Key's manuscript in the Maryland Historical Society collection.

“The Star-Spangled Banner”

O say can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight O'er the ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bomb bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there, O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream, 'Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore, That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion A home and a Country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation! Blest with vict'ry and peace may the heav'n rescued land Praise the power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto - "In God is our trust," And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

The National Anthem: “The Star-Spangled Banner” Written by Francis Scott Key and composed by John Stafford Smith. He wrote it after the valorous defense of the Fort McHenry by American forces during the British attack of 1814. The Pledge of Allegiance was authored by Francis Bellamy in 1892. These glorify the national pride and mark historical significance of the American dream of independent state.
