Intersect! A Year of celebrating Your Story, St. Paul’s Story and God’s Story
By Pastor George
Each week in worship we seek to connect God’s Story in scripture to your story, asking “what’s this mean for you?”. In 2013, we are taking it one step further in celebration of God blessing St. Paul’s Church, Marthasville, with 150 years of ministry. We will con-tinually explore how God’s Story INTERSECTS with your story and how they both INTERSECT with St. Paul’s HIS-TORY. To help guide us we will utilize “The Story”.
What exactly is The Story and why are we utilizing it at St. Paul’s? The Story is a book that condenses the Bible into 31 accessible chapters. Although it is not the Bible in its entirety, The Story is a tool that uses thoughtfully chosen and carefully excerpted por-tions of Scripture to cover the major characters and themes of the Bible chronologically from Genesis to Revelation. The Story also includes written transitions (in italics to be distinguished from the Bible text) and reads like a novel.
The idea is that after reading The Story together as a church we will all have experienced the Bible in a brand new way. Hopefully you will be glued to every page, wrapped up in the lives of the characters, wanting to know more about the Author of this incredi-bly intense, heart-warming, life-changing true story. For St. Paul’s Church, 2013 promises to be an incredible year as we all im-merse ourselves in the Bible and connect it with our story - past, present and future. As we invite God’s words of redemption and hope into our lives, we hope to experience His presence and promises in big ways as our faith grows stronger and deeper.
Addressing some questions:
● Are we going to use The Story instead of the Bible? The book The Story will not replace the Bible. The majority of The Story is
the Bible. For example, chapter 1 is 11 ½ pages long and 10 ½ pages are words directly from the Bible. It is simply a tool to help us experience the Bible better. As always, the Bible will be our ultimate guide and the final authority in our lives.
● Why should I have a copy of The Story when I already have a Bible? The Story includes written transitions, timelines, discus-
sion questions, and other valuable resources that we will be using. St. Paul’s has purchased hardback copies at a bulk rate of $5 - you may purchase a copy in the Lobby (or reserve your copy is supplies are out; you may also visit www.TheStory.com and order directly. The Story presents the Bible in a very easy-to-read format, and we will be referencing it often from January through September. In addition to reading the book, you will most likely use it as a workbook, writing all sorts of notes and thoughts in the margin and highlighting what sticks out to you.
● Do I need to bring both The Story and my Bible to church with me? We suggest that you do. We will be referencing both.
● Should I read a chapter of The Story before I come to church each Sunday? Yes. We will let you know in advance which chap-
ters we will be covering and when.
● When are we beginning The Story? The kickoff Sunday is January 6, with chapter 1.
● Will the entire church be studying the same thing? Yes. From young to old, we will all be studying the same chapters of The
Story every week. We want to be threaded together as a church family this year by studying the same parts of the Bible at the same time. So when you have a conversation with your friends during the week the stories will be reinforced. You can go home and have a conversation with your teenager or your third grader and the stories will be reinforced.
2013 is shaping up to be a time of great INTERSECTIONS. Don’t miss the opportunities in worship, Sunday School, Growth Groups (see the lobby table or website for existing groups, locations and times) or in casual conversations with members/friends. There are also other churches in the greater St. Louis region who are utilizing The Story, so the possibilities for conversations are endless.

Youth News Recap By Karen Nye
Trusting you all had a Merry Christmas! December was a busy month at St. Paul’s.
We started the first weekend off on December 2 putting together care packages for our col-lege students. Some of the youth had older siblings, cousins, or knew several of the stu-dents receiving these and had a blast adding some special touches. What a treat when they will be on the receiving side one day. One of the youth added this joke to the letters.....”Do you know why your teacher is wearing sun-glasses to class? Because you are so bright. Good luck on your finals”. The playdough and hacky sacks will be a great dis-traction for the students. The scripture cards will be a great encouragement. December 9th youth t-shirts were distribut-ed. Starting December 10, 2012 if you are seen wearing your youth t-shirt at School, Sunday School, Winter Wednesdays, stores, restaurants etc. your name will be put in a drawing for a special prize. We will draw once a month at our Winter Wednesday Din-ner. (January 30, February 27, March 27, April 24, May 15).
December 15th was a jam packed day of play practice, baking Christmas cookies and Christ-mas Caroling. The youth spent hours baking 64 dozen cookies and candies to earn money to put towards the Water Well. Thank you for the supporting the youth! The community en-joyed the sounds of our youth singing.
December 27-29, Larry Brewe and I are headed down to Branson for Teen Extreme with 13 youth. Please pray for safe travel and that the youth will hold close to their hearts all they learn and continue to grow and show the ways of Jesus.
The Youth Strategic Team has been working to finalize the direction and plans for the youth at St. Paul’s. This has been completed and added to the website. You can pick up a copy in the lobby. (Dates and events are subject to change each year).
Winter Wednesdays will begin Janu-
ary 9, 2013 at the youth house at 4PM. We will meet every Wednesday and follow the Wash-ington School District Calendar. If there is a modified day or no school on that day we will not meet. (January 16th is a modified day).
Chris Marquart and I will be providing trans-portation from the High School and Middle School. We will leave at 330PM. If your stu-dent needs a place to go until then(dismissal is at 225PM) they can come to Wyldlife which is held at the middle school from 225PM-325PM in the facs room). High School Youth-come on over, we always need small group leaders and we have your snack covered).
Winter Wednesdays are designed to help our youth become familiar with scripture. How to look up a verse, read it, understand it, and ap-ply it. This will allow our youth to develop “Resolve” in their lives. We will discuss highs and lows of their week along with a group cir-cle time to discuss past scriptures, events (PP2P, Teen Extreme, Dare2share, missions, other youth events) on how they have helped us and maybe where we didn’t apply and need the support on how to move forward.
Brenda Garris will be cooking a meal on Wednesdays for EVERYONE. Parents when you come to pick your youth up at 530PM stay and have dinner. Other ministries will be joining us for dinner. This is a great way for them to get to know our youth. (And a night off from cook-ing for you, and you can be home by 7PM).
We are asking each youth with their parent(s) to sign up ONE Wednesday a month to help with cleanup.(this could be less). We need the teachers and leaders to be free to head on to their class they are teaching, or clean up from the class they have already taught.
If you would like to be a part of Winter Wednesdays, we would love to have you! Some of the areas...Music, taking pic-tures, writing down prayer requests, sharing your testimony, transportation and any other way you feel God is calling you to serve.

We practice on the Tuesday before the third Sunday of each month at 7-8:30pm in the sanctuary. The choir sings at the 9am service on the third Sunday. Singing in the choir is a lot of fun and a great social time for all ages. We'd be thrilled to have you come and sing with us.

January Extra Step Mission (WOM) WASHINGTON OVERSEAS MISSION
With the motto, “Improving the Health and Quality of Life for the People of Honduras and Latin America”, what began in 1992 with Dr. Tim Long and a few friends volunteering to work for a week in Honduras has grown into an organization that works year round organizing and funding a diverse range of humani-tarian projects including health care, construction, water, scholar-ships and day care. Teams consisting of physicians, dentists, health care professionals, skilled-trade construction workers, students and general volunteers donate their time and skills to help the poorest of the poor in this third world area. WOM is a not-for-profit 501 (C) (3) with no paid staff. Everyone who goes on a mission trip pays their own way, so all donations are directly used to provide care and relief for these most grateful people. All sup-plies taken are utilized - all that’s brought home is the satisfaction of service and the challenge to do more. What’s left behind is the difference made!
Please make checks payable to “St. Paul’s Church” with WOM in the memo.
Thank you St. Paul’s Church! A total of 68 gifts
were given to the Pregnancy Assistance Center to help families during some challenging times. Way to go, Church!!
THE GIFT THAT KEEPS GIVING- Tuesday, January 29, 2-7pm, we will host a blood drive here at St. Paul’s.
