“Helping Hands Ministry” Needs Your Help The Missions Committee has discussed over the past six months how we can be more involved in helping people here in Marthasville with “mission-type” work. It started with a question something like, “We travel to other cities/states to serve others and we send financial contributions around the country and world for mission work in those are-as, so is there something we can do close to home?” The response to this type of question was formalized in January with the creation of “St. Paul’s Marthasville Ar-ea Helping Hands Ministry.” This ministry aims to offer practical help to the building repair & property needs of the elderly, widowed & others in our area. During Lent the Wednesday Lenten offerings went toward a special “Helping Hands Ministry” Fund set up for this purpose. To date over $2000 has been contributed. Also, during this time word was circulated regarding person(s) needing help whom we might be able to serve. GOOD NEWS! With the suggestions of others from our congregation, we have determined our first Helping Hands Ministry opportunity. A church member needs assistance with the following projects: 1. A drawer front needs to be glued back on. Glue is available. 2. A bed rail on a hospital bed is broken. It needs to be taken off, welded and reinstalled. 3. Assistance is needed, to sit with an individual, while closets are cleaned out by homeowner, the items boxed, and hauled off. 4. A lift chair motor is not operating properly. It needs to be checked out. 5. As the weather improves, yard work including, raking, spraying, and mulching needs to be done. NOW, the fun part of serving begins. Are you willing to help serve in any of the above capacities? Do you know of someone who has any of the above skills/talents and would like to make a difference? Could you make a donation to help expand the number of persons we will be able to help? With God’s help, our collective helping hands will bring joy and hope to others! If you (or others) are available to assist in any of these projects, please notify the Helping Hands Ministry contact person, Larry Brewe, at [email protected] or 636-359-0541.
Booth, etc. Live music is also being recruited for outside entertainment.
We will also have our 3rd Annual “Homemade Ice Cream ‘Freeze-Off’!”. The Freeze-Off will be run much like a chili cook-off. All will be able to get a sample of each ice cream and vote on their preference. If you have an Ice Cream Maker and would like to participate, please sign up on the lobby table so we are sure to have an adequate number of tables for serving.
To coordinate food, please contact the church office or sign up in the lobby - noting your potluck dish to pass - if you plan on attending. If you wish to help in any way, please contact the church office.

Prayer Ministry News
National Day of Prayer Thursday, May 2nd at 12:00 noon
Memorial Park Gazebo, downtown Marthasville Thursday, May 2nd is National Day of Prayer. All people throughout the nation are encouraged to come together to pray for our nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the US Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. It exists to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families and to communicate the need for per-sonal repentance and prayer. It is based on our under-standing that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible. On Thursday, May 2nd at 12:00 noon The community of Marthasville is called to pray , along with people from every state, for our nation. This will have profound sig-nificance for our country. We have an unprecedented opportunity to see the Lord’s healing and renewing pow-er made manifest as we call on citizens to humbly come before His throne. To echo the words of Mary Washing-ton, mother of our nation’s first president, we believe it is time to “Remember that God is our only sure trust.” The days we live in call for urgent prayer. The tragic events these past few weeks remind us that we need the grace and protection of God. Shirley Dobson, National Day of Prayer Chairman, reminds us: “We have lost many of our freedoms in America because we have been asleep. I feel if we do not become involved and support the annual National Day of Prayer, we could end up for-feiting this freedom, too.” Plan to join together with other Christians as we pray for our leaders and call out to God for his mercy and inter-vention in our nation, creating a wave of prayer from one coast to the other.

June 30-July 5, serving with Group Ministry in St. Louis to address physical and spiritual needs of urban residents. Extra Step Donations will go fully toward the needed mission supplies for each trip. www.stpaulsuccmo.org FACEBOOK: St. Paul’s Teen Adventures. To contribute, make out checks to “St. Paul’s” with “Youth Missions” in the memo.
National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 2 National Day of Prayer calls on all people of
different faiths in the United States to pray for the nation and its leaders. It is held on the first Thursday of May each year.
In 1775 the Continental Congress allocated a time for prayer in forming a new nation. Over the years, there have been calls for a day of prayer, in-cluding from President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. On April 17, 1952, President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming the National Day of Prayer into law in the United States. President Reagan amended the law in 1988, designating the first Thursday of May each year as the National Day of Prayer.
The National Prayer Committee was formed in the United States in 1972. It went on to create the National Day of Prayer Task Force, with the in-tended purpose of coordinating events for the Na-tional Day of Prayer. According to the Legal Infor-mation Institute, the President shall issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer on which the peo-ple of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as indi-viduals. On May 2, please set aside some special time to join with others - corporately or privately - in praying for our nation, our leaders and all our people!
Have a Prayer Request?
We have a ministry for that!

I will send those to you via email as needed.
Congratulations to Lauren Kazmaier the monthly “You have been spotted wearing your youth shirt” winner.
Steak Dinner-Saturday, April 6, 2013-Wild for Youth Youth, you did a wonderful job serving. A huge thank you to the congregation for showing your support through donating a silent auction item, working or attending the dinner. We sold 134 tickets (sold out). Stan Ponder, (served the youth at Augusta and Marthasville Elemen-tary Schools) hosted as Emcee. The youth were amazed and enjoyed an adult who once made a difference in their lives, coming back and being a part of investing in their future. Even after receiving a pie in the face, Stan is will-ing to come back for more. The youth earned over $8400. Great job.
Looking for good family entertainment to watch with your youth or for them to watch when they have friends over? The Youth Ministry has added 10 family friendly movies to our library. These movies are available in the church library for check out. Please fill out and follow guidelines on sign out sheet. Titles-Outlaw Trail, 16 Wishes, Radio Rebel, Believe in Me, Safe Harbor, A war-riors Heart, Whitney Brown, Jumping for joy, Akeelah Bee, The Assignment. On the back of each video it lists Life’s Growing Moments through Learning and Struggles.
Emmaus Home June 9-13, 2013 We will be pairing up with Pastor Jay Emerson with Frieden’s UCC Church in Warrenton. Their church will be there the entire week. He has opened up this week for our youth to join them for one day or all week. This is nice as it gives the youth flexibility with their schedules. Cost for meals and T-Shirt $10 per day. Sign- up sheets are in the lobby.
Dare2share-25 attended the event. Our youth were amazing and spent their outreach ministry at Children’s Hospital. We met a young family whose daughter had just had brain surgery. The God we serve is so amazing. He crossed this family with our church’s paths twice since the event and we are now able to communicate with them and receive weekly updates. Our youth shared the Gospel with this family and prayed with them. The dad shared how his life was changed as a result and he is ex-periencing faith in a way he never did. Our youth “Dared to share” and with God’s grace, made a difference for His Glory. Mark your calendars for next year. You won’t want to miss it. March 21-22 2014.
The James Study-Our last study will be May 1st. The youth attending have discussed meeting over the sum-mer to finish and continue to spend time with one anoth-er while studying God’s word.
Taco Stand at Washington Fair- Sign up sheets will be set out in the lobby in May. Thank you in advance for your willingness to work. Many parents have shared this is a good way for them to spend a couple hours getting to know other parents and church members. This year we are adding a few new items-Fruit Kabobs and burritos. Funds raised will go towards the purchase of youth van. Last year we raised nearly $2000(And that was with Sat-urday closing due to weather).
Youth T-Shirts- Due to several requests, we will be ordering additional youth shirts. I will be ordering several of all sizes, however, if you know you want one, please message me your size
and how many you need to guarantee the order.

Teen Summer Workcamp- Week of Hope in St Louis,
June 30-July 5 Who knew that in 1804, when Lewis and Clark set out from St. Louis to explore the American West and bring hope of a new beginning to the people of the area, that today this area would be in need of hope again? You can serve the people of St. Louis by exploring your faith and bringing hope of another new beginning. You have the chance to brighten people's futures and explore a variety of community service projects for those who really need you. Communicate your interest to Karen Nye. For complete details, visit http://groupmissiontrips.com/week-of-hope. This Week of Hope will include a total of 99 youth from around the country coming to St. Louis to serve God and His people alongside you and others. Be sure to register and get your $50 deposit in early (total cost = $100... note, the week costs $248/person, but youth ministry fundraising helps to offset each participant’s fee). We have re-served six spaces and four of them have already been claimed with deposits.
For more information, talk with Karen or past participants:
Molly Dohm, Kelsey Sullentrup, Danielle Presser, McKenzie Dohm or Sharon Seeley.
Throughout the summer months beginning May 26th thru September 1st at the 10:30 am service, we will offer a preschool class and a combined class for Kindergarten thru 4th grade. The curriculum will continue to follow "The Story" that we have been working with since January. Our current teachers have been faithful to be here each Sunday throughout the school year. It would be great to be able to give them the summer off. They each need time to refresh mentally, physically and spiritually!
Could you spare an hour, 1 or 2 times, this summer to help with a class? No previous experience necessary. We will provide a lesson that is easy for the leader to follow. Sign-up sheets will be in the lobby. You can sign up as an individual or sign up as a family to help out together! Contact Shannon Dothage with questions: 636-359-2217
Morning LIGHT students, we are planning a celebration and hope you will be able to join in the FUN. May 19th will be our last Sunday school class for this year. We will start off in church thanking God for the ways He is working in our Chris-tian education program. Then we will all gather in the fellowship hall for an ice cream party and games. (If your child has a food allergy please provide an alternative snack. )
Thank you!
