Orders forms for Lilies

As a part of Easter tradition, to honor Jesus’ Resurrection, churches decorate

with White Lilies on Easter Sunday. It has become a sacred flower for the season

and during Easter it is an opportunity once again to honor or remember our loved

ones.

The forms will be at the back of the church which will explain the cost and

how you would like to present your lily – in Memory of / in Honor of and who is

giving the Lily. Jan Henke or Marge Schmidt can answer any questions.

KFC NEWS

We continue with the rotation “Jesus and The Empty Tomb” which will end Palm Sunday, (March 20th) with the children singing in church. We encourage all children to participate. Our focus is why did Jesus have to die and then rise from the dead?

KFC will have a speaker from Sauk County Animal Shelter Sunday March 6th. All are welcome to attend. There is no KFC Easter Sunday, March 27th. Sunday school will resume Sunday April 3rd with our final rotation from the Old Testament Story of “Hannah and Samuel.” There are many things coming up; fifth grade communion, look for more information as we get closer, Mother’s Day, Confirmation, and Student Recognition, all happening in May.

As always KFC is looking for volunteers to help with the workshops. If you would like to help out please contact myself. Thanks to all who continue to help out. The greatest gift you can give a child is you and your time.

Parish Ed News

We have a lot of things planned for our KFC Kids. Currently the mission for the KFC is “SOAC” also known as Summer Outdoor Adventure Club. Gary Williams came and spoke to our youth about the club and all the things he does building up self confidence in kids. In past years KFC Kids have gone to the Big Cat Rescue and the Crane Foundation which were also past missions. Again Parish Ed has planned a field trip for Saturday, June 11th at 10:00 am at the Hartje Center. Gary will take us on a nature hike. We will have a sack lunch, along with a campfire, and make s’mores. Look for more details as we get closer to the date. Parish Ed has set the dates for VBS; August 8- 12. The theme is called “Barnyard Roundup.” So save the dates for this always fun time.

Next Parish Ed discussed the possibility of changing our Sunday School format. Currently KFC is held on Sunday mornings and we do what is called a rotation Sunday School lesson. It was discussed to change from Sunday mornings KFC to Wednesday evening’s. The evening would start approximately at 5:15 pm with a light supper, followed by a worship lesson, and breaking up into classes according to age. Classes are to include from infant up to sixth grade. Parents would be asked to accompany the younger children. Confirmation would remain on Wednesdays. It was also discussed having Luther league and Bible studies to meet as well on Wednesday evenings. Making it truly a night for family and friends to gather to worship and learn. Nothing is set in stone, these are only suggestions/possibilities. This is a big change and will need a lot of discussion and planning. Parish Ed and Church Council are looking to the congregation for feedback and welcome all questions and or concerns. Thank you for all your support

Council News - March 2016 Greetings,

We are hoping to keep the congregation informed of happenings in our congregation. Listed below are some of the

topics/tasks that we are working on: Members of our church are attending LEAD in Janesville, March 12th, for a Saturday filled with spiritual

enrichment, sharing ideas, solving problems and learning opportunities attending workshops that can help us

here at St. Peter’s.

A council committee has started the process of formulating a youth protection policy.

Endowment/Memorial Board has completed an immense task of getting the generous gifts given to St.

Peter’s over the years invested with Thrivent Financial. This task was taken very seriously, and they have

invested in conservative securities. These monies invested will be monitored, and we will have quarterly

reports. Please make sure you thank members of this board for the time they have given for the benefit of

all of us, who share St. Peter’s missions.

Church Council listened to Parish Education explain ideas of a new format for KFC. (Please read Parish

Education News in this issue.) We have asked the congregation for their input/questions/concerns for

this change. Please contact us with your thoughts. At the March council meeting we will be discussing all of

the pros/cons of the possible change. If we decide to make a change in the KFC program, we will

evaluate it in December to see how the new program is affecting our church and youth programs and

make any needed changes.

JOY,

Lorinda Broughton

P.S. Check out the church office updates-walls are newly painted and new desk space is assembled. The new

computers have arrived too! Thank you to Mark Muchow & Ron Kruse for their continued help.

Bugle Call March 2016

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ. Grace and Peace to you from God the Father; From our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; In, with, and through the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

It’s been really tough living in the Parsonage the past couple months. Our daughter, Emma, has been living with

us since her job in Indiana ended, and she is now looking for a full-time job. The tough part is that she makes meals for us, and treats! My goodness, the treats! Cheesecakes, baklava, cookies, and all kinds of other good stuff. My sweet tooth

has never been more satisfied. Some of you who have been in the Wednesday Bible Study can attest to how wonderful

Emma’s cooking is.

Anyway, as I was walking down to the office, Emma asked me what my Bugle Call article was going to be about, and I answered noncommittally. Emma said, “Make it about Gambian Pouched Rats.”

Huh? Gambian Pouched Rats? I guess to understand her suggestion you need to know that Emma loves rats.

That’s right, rats. She has had rats for pets for a number of years. She gave her last pet rat to a rat rescue before she moved into the parsonage with us. So anyway, to honor her suggestion, here is a

photo of a Gambian Pouched Rat (think of the Gambian rat as compared to a normal rat as Arnold

Schwarzenegger is compared to a normal sized human)

As you can see in the photo, that is a Gambian Pouched Rat that is big enough to be walked about on a leash! YUCK!!!!!!

Now, on to the main point of this article. I want to address in a speculative way the ongoing

primary season of those running for the Democratic and Republican nominations for the office of President of the United States. And no, I am not drawing any kind of connection here.

Regardless of whether you support the Democratic or the Republican Party, you must admit that watching the

early coverage of the candidates’ posturing for position has been engrossing. The back and forth between the candidates has been at times confrontational, and sometimes even insulting. But with all the bitter, contentious words between the

candidates, I am still left with the question, “Who would want the job of President of the United States?”

Really, who would want to be President? Who would want to be the “Leader of the Free World?” Who would

want to have all of that responsibility? Who would want to be the target of derision for about half of the population of the United States? Who would want THAT job?

It is true that sometimes pictures speak a thousand words. Take a look at a picture of a recent President before

they became President, and after their term in office was concluded. By comparison, the ‘after’ photos are of a much more aged, haggard, and grayer person. I’ve compared photos of Ronald Reagan from before he became President, and

after his time in office was over. He looks like he aged 30 years because of the stress of being President. His ‘after’

photo looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. So, who would want that job? Who would want the job of caring for all of the people in the United States (and by

extension, by consequences of decisions made) for all of the people in the world?

Caring for all of the people in the world is beyond any human being.

Caring for all of the people in the world is beyond anyone, whether they be Democrats, Republicans, Independents, or from any other political party.

We, as Christians, know deep in our hearts the answer to the question of who wants the job of caring for all of the

people in the world, whether the people have already lived, are living now, or will live in the future. The answer of course, is God. God the Father, through the person and the work of Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, cares for

all people in the world.

Scripture tells us that “For God so loved the world that God gave God’s only Son, so that everyone who believes

in Him may not perish but may have eternal life.” We don’t have to ‘elect’ God to that position, for God is already in that position, and has been since the

beginning.

But how about, during this Lenten Season (and the Presidential election year) we ‘elect’ God into our hearts. How about making manifest, to all those with whom we come into contact, God’s unconditional love for us all?

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. And love your neighbor as yourself. AMEN.

God’s Peace to you all.

Pastor Don

Spiritual Reflection for March 2016 Driving Lessons

Winter driving can be unpredictable. If I am traveling to meetings out of town I always check the weather forecast and gauge my driving time accordingly. For two days of travel plans, one after the other, in mid-February I was delighted to see there was no snow, ice, sleet or even rain in the forecast. Off I went unaware of the driving lessons I would be learning. When the weather is good I generally plan my travel time based on “Google Maps” or “MapQuest”. They are usually generous with their travel time. On a good road day, I can anticipate my driving time to be 10-15 minutes less than their guideline. With that in mind I was not concerned about leaving the house 10 minutes later than originally planned. Certainly in the middle of the week, mid-morning the traffic would be light and I would make my meeting on time. Right? Wrong! For some reason the speed limit of 55 was being interpreted as 45 by many of my fellow travelers and on a two-lane highway that creates a problem for someone hoping to make up lost time! Just when I would be freed from one slow traveler another would pull out in front of me. As the police officer drove by I thanked the slow truck for saving me from a speeding ticket! As I arrived for my meeting I learned that my being 10 minutes late was insignificant because there was nothing scheduled after our meeting. I was where I needed to be when I needed to be (I knew God had his hand in it). The very next day I headed off to Madison. Almost immediately I found myself behind 4 vehicles traveling at 50 miles per hour in a 55-speed zone. Really? Perhaps I am a slow learner. Okay, I thought, ‘no speeding tickets today either’. But then, at a stoplight, with the light being green, both lanes of traffic remained stopped! Didn’t these drivers pay attention in driver’s education class? Green means go! There was no mistaking that God had something in mind for me to learn in these trips. Life is like a road we travel with fellow travelers. We travel in all sorts of weather conditions or emotional states. We often do not have control of the sudden changes; like cars pulling out in front of us or job offers falling through. We cannot control oncoming traffic; be it cars or major milestones. We may be stuck going slowly through unchartered territory; like road detours or new circumstances or losses. The only things we can be sure of are we are all in this together and we are never alone. Life is not a race. Life is a journey to be embraced, enjoyed, and shared. If we allow God to take the wheel as we journey, we can begin to take it all in. We can observe the landscape. We can take notice of the needs of our neighbors. We can even reach out to give someone a lift with a smile or a wave. We become part of the bigger picture when we take the focus off of our own personal journey and realize the way we drive through (live our) life impacts others often without our knowing. As a teenager driving lessons begin in the classroom with a textbook and a simulator. The next step is to get behind the steering wheel of a car and take your knowledge to the road. My driving lessons from my teen years are engrained in my mind and will hopefully keep my passengers and me safe on the road. The spiritual life lessons are just as important in keeping you and I safe. Don’t be afraid to learn. Pick up a bible or a spiritual book, study its message and then take your wisdom on the road. Most importantly, stay alert on the road of life. It is filled with driving lessons! Questions to ponder: How do I race through life? When have I been thankful for a slow moving vehicle? What is God trying to tell me as I travel? How can I trust God to take the wheel while I appreciate the ride? May God’s Peace Be Yours, Tammy Koenecke, RN, BSN, MASL Spiritual Care Coordinator, RAMC You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11

An incredible way to look at GOD

When GOD solves our problems; we have faith in HIS abilities. When GOD doesn't solve our

problems HE has faith in our abilities. God's accuracy may be observed in the hatching of eggs

those of the canary in 14 days, those of the barnyard hen in 21 days; -eggs of ducks and geese in

28 days; -those of the mallard in 35 days; -The eggs of the parrot and the ostrich hatch in 42

days. (Notice, they are all divisible by seven, the number of days in a week.)

God's wisdom is seen in the making of an elephant. -The four legs of this great beast all bend

forward in the same direction. - No other quadruped is so made. - God planned that this animal

would have a huge body too large to live on two legs. - For this reason He gave it four fulcrums

so that it can rise from the ground easily. -The horse rises from the ground on its two front legs

first. - A cow rises from the ground with its two hind legs first.

How wise the Lord is in all His works of creation! -Each watermelon has an even number of

stripes on the rind. -Each orange has an even number of segments. -Each ear of corn has an

even number of rows. - Each stalk of wheat has an even number of grains. -Every bunch of

bananas has on its lowest row an even number of bananas, and each row decreases by one, so

that one row has an even number and the next row an odd number.

Amazing. -The waves of the sea roll in on shore twenty-six to the minute in all kinds of

weather. -All grains are found in even numbers on the stalks.

God has caused the flowers to blossom at certain specified times during the day. Linnaeus, the

great botanist, once said that if he had a conservatory containing the right kind of soil, moisture

and temperature, he could tell the time of day or night by the flowers that were open and those

that were closed.

The lives of each of us may be ordered by the Lord in a beautiful way for His glory, if we will

only entrust Him with our life. If we try to regulate our own life, it will only be a mess and a

failure. Only God, who made our brain and heart, can successfully guide them to a profitable

end.

I pray God blesses you in ways you never even dreamed.

When you carry "the Bible", Satan has a headache; when you open it, he collapses; When he

sees you reading it he loses his strength, and when you stand on the Word of God, Satan can't

hurt you!

Happy Easter to everyone
