Capital Campaign Update – Total Numbers as of December 4, 2018

Phase I Pledges $ 2,951,935Phase II Pledges $ 636,015 Goal $ 932,000 Balance Needed $ 293,173Total all Pledges $ 3,587,950 Goal $ 3,881,123 Total Cash Received $ 2,363,234

Build Updates: The current build of Phase I of our New Build is 100% completed. A few extra kitchen items have been ordered. Ministries are reviewing their plans to use the new Msgr. David R. Funk Parish Family Center. We are currently taking reservations for our Parish Family Center with rental contracts available and approved Caterer list for all interested families. We currently need $293,173 to complete Phase II. This would amount to $141.00 per registered family in our Parish. If we do not have these pledges by March 1, 2019, CONSTRUCTION WILL STOP! Please be generous with your continued pledges and gifts toward our Capital Campaign so we can expand the Narthex. We are so close! We have met 91% of our goal. The following we can anticipate with the Narthex expansion: Adoration Chapel, doubling the size of the open area to visit with friends, renovated Quieting Room, new Choir Room, new Bride’s Room, new bathrooms and much larger resource racks and Lending Library. Please take the time to respond to the mailing we sent to all registered families. We have heard from 351 families of our 2,054 families here at St. Pius X for Phase II. If you have pledged toward Phase I, thank you. If you have pledged toward Phase II, thank you again. If you have not pledged, please prayerfully consider a sacrificial pledge for Phase II. If you are able to increase the length of time for your pledge, please respond via email to [email protected] or drop a note in the offertory. If you ever notice any issue with your Capital Campaign billing statement or update letter, please give John Beyer a call at the Parish Office and these will be updated immediately. Please continue your support of our Church and School by your offertory tithing during our Capital Campaign build, thanksgiving for all that we have here at St. Pius X Church and School.

“Continuing To Renew All Things in Christ” Capital Campaign Father Dave and John Beyer are asking ALL families to return a pledge card. If you are unable to commit to a pledge at this time, please notate that on your pledge card as well as a date to follow up. It is important to the success of our Capital Campaign that everyone who calls St. Pius X Church and School his or her home to:

• Pray for the success of the Combined Phases I and II of our Capital Campaign• Be an Ambassador by becoming informed and involved, enthusiastically sharing this information with as many people as you

can, and encouraging others to become involved. • Make your sacrificial pledge. If you are unable to commit to a pledge at this time, return a pledge card noting this.

FORMED.ORG PRESENTS TWO WAYS TO DEEPEN YOUR FAITH DURING ADVENT:

This week, login to formed.org, go to the “Community” section, and watch Prepare the Way, Session 5: “Who Is Jesus?” No one has had a greater impact on the world than Jesus of Nazareth, and the question of Jesus’ identity is central to our faith. Watch on your own, with your family, or with a group of friends. Let’s all make Christ a part of our Christmas preparations. There are accompanying discussion guides that help penetrate the truth and beauty of these topics.

This Advent, FORMED is offering daily Advent reflections for the whole family direct to your email inboxes. Participants will receive a daily video reflection from Dr. Tim Gray and can opt to add children’s reflections from beloved animated character Brother Francis. Login to formed.org to sign up. Haven’t signed up for your free FORMED account? Register at spxreynoldsburg.formed.org.

ited to join the Armory for an Advent Winter Hike from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on December 15th starting at the large shelter at Blacklick Metro Park. The hike will be a 4-mile loop around the main trail. At various intervals we will stop to meditate on THE story of Christmas through prayers, scripture readings and carols. Please consider joining us and using this morning as an opportunity to pray, to reflect and to prepare your heart and mind for the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ. This would also be an opportunity to ponder what you can bring as a gift to the Manger of our Lord.

ADOPT-A-CHILD COLLECTION WEEKEND IS COMING UP THE WEEKEND OF DECEMBER 8/9. The Adopt-A-Child program has been able to fulfill Christmas wishes throughout the years for hundreds of families in both our St. Pius X community and beyond. This year, we will be working with the following groups: The Bish Foundation, which supports children that have cancer along with their families; Leads (Pataskala) a community outreach program for children; Choices Domestic Violence Shelter, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Center. The collection weekend will be December 8 & 9 before and after all Masses. Gifts should be dropped off in the CAFETERIA. Monetary donations will be accepted during both weekends and monetary donations may be dropped off at the Rectory until December 17. Oftentimes, we get families from our parish and the surrounding area that have last minute needs, so monetary donations are a huge help in the effort St. Pius X makes in fulfilling those needs and wishes. If you have any questions or know of any families in need, please contact Ashleigh Mashensic at 440-453-4456 or [email protected].

SPX ADULT BOWLING LEAGUE TO BEGIN ON JANUARY 3! Beginning January 3, 2019 at Holiday Lanes on Broad Street, Parish Council will be sponsoring a Parish Bowling League for members of the parish who are 21 years of age & older. This will be a 12-week league on Friday nights at 7 PM. The cost is $140.00 per person for the 12 weeks. These will be 4 person teams and should be a lot of fun and provide a great time for friends to gather and enjoy time together. If you would like more information or to sign-up, please contact Brian Sauer at 614-649-0411 or at [email protected]. When signing up, please give him your name and contact information as well as the number of people and their names that you wish to sign up.

SAINT OF THE DAY FOR DECEMBER 8

The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin MaryThe Story of the Immaculate Conception of Mary:A feast called the Conception of Mary arose in the Eastern Church in the seventh century. It came to the West in the eighth century. In the 11th century it received its present name, the Immaculate Conception. In the 18th century it became a feast of the universal Church. It is now recognized as a solemnity. In 1854, Pius IX solemnly proclaimed: “The most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instant of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege granted by almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the savior of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin.”It took a long time for this doctrine to develop. While many Fathers and Doctors of the Church considered Mary the greatest and holiest of the saints, they often had difficulty in seeing Mary as sinless—either at her conception or throughout her life. This is one of the Church teachings that arose more from the piety of the faithful than from the insights of brilliant theologians. Even such champions of Mary as Bernard of Clairvaux and Thomas Aquinas could not see theological justification for this teaching. Two Franciscans, William of Ware and Blessed John Duns Scotus, helped develop the theology. They pointed out that Mary’s Immaculate Conception enhances Jesus’ redemptive work. Other members of the human race are cleansed from original sin after birth. In Mary, Jesus’ work was so powerful as to prevent original sin at the outset. In Luke 1:28 the angel Gabriel, speaking on God’s behalf, addresses Mary as “full of grace” or “highly favored.” In that context, this phrase means that Mary is receiving all the special divine help necessary for the task ahead. However, the Church grows in understanding with the help of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit led the Church, especially non-theologians, to the insight that Mary had to be the most perfect work of God next to the Incarnation. Or rather, Mary’s intimate association with the Incarnation called for the special involvement of God in Mary’s whole life. The logic of piety helped God’s people to believe that Mary was full of grace and free of sin from the first moment of her existence. Moreover, this great privilege of Mary is the highlight of all that God has done in Jesus. Rightly understood, the incomparable holiness of Mary shows forth the incomparable goodness of God. Mary as the Immaculate Conception is the Patron Saint of: Brazil, United States.
