Weekly Notes
Divine Mercy Sunday
Alleluia! Happy Easter! Jesus Christ is the light to the na-
tions. His light shines brightly in his resurrection. We profess
his resurrection in our confession of faith in the creed. Last
week we saw an empty tomb and this week we witness Thom-
as proclamation “My Lord and My God!” All of this happens
because Jesus rose from the dead and appeared in his glorified
body to those whom he called friends.
Jesus meets his friends in his glorified body starting on the
Sunday after his death, the first day of a new beginning. All of
the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles testify that Jesus ap-
peared and spoke to the Apostles and other disciples after they
found his tomb empty. Jesus first appeared to Mary Magda-
lene in all four Gospel accounts. Her and some other women
brought the message of the resurrection to the Apostles to
whom he later appeared that first day. In addition he appeared
to two disciples on the road way to Emmaus and revealed him-
self to them at the breaking of the bread in the Gospel of
Luke. Finally a week after the first Easter Sunday the Gospel
of John shows us that Jesus appeared to Thomas whom he told
to touch him as further proof of the resurrection. Lastly Jesus
appeared to Paul as recorded in Acts of the Apostles and
Paul’s personal letter to the Galatians perhaps years after the
resurrection as Paul persecuted the Christians on his way to
Damascus. Keep your eyes open. He may appear to you any
time as long as you remain his friend.
He calls us in the resurrection to go and make disciples of all
nations. So now you see that in the appearance of his glorified
body Jesus Christ reveals that he is the light to the nations
through us his disciples. So go and make more disciples!
Happy Easter! Alleluia!
Fr. Jeff
Domingo de la Divina Misericordia ¡Aleluya! ¡Felices Pascuas! Jesucristo es la luz para las nacion-
es. Su luz brilla intensamente en su resurrección. Profesamos

at the back of the Church by May 5th.
Seventy-five percent of the alms given through CRS Rice Bowl will go to Catholic Relief
Services to support humanitarian aid projects that bring vital hope and live-saving aid to the poorest of the poor overseas.
Twenty-five percent of CRS Rice Bowl donations will stay here in our archdiocese to help those
suffering from poverty and hunger in our own community. Here's who you funded last year. St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield
