Dear Reader,
Halle (Saale) is a dynamic city of culture, the birth-place of Georg Friedrich Handel and Germany's greenest major city offering a wide range of facilities for sport and leisure. Culture, business and science form an irresistible trinity here. They provide the ba-sis for the promising future of this growing cosmopo-litan city with its celebrated universities and research institutes. Further features of the city are its distin-guished cultural and artistic institutions, including an opera house, theatres, choirs, the Staatskapelle orchestra, museums, art galleries and cinemas. The annual international Handel Festival is a special high-light in the city's calendar.
As a business location Halle (Saale) offers a vibrant mix of traditional and future-oriented sectors of in-dustry. The city is home not just to internationally suc-cessful multimedia and biotechnology enterprises, but also to market leaders in the service industries, the foodstuffs and luxury goods industry, logistics and start-ups in the fields of design and IT. Compa-nies with global operations have established a base for themselves on the Star Park Halle Industrial Park and are experiencing strong growth there. They be-nefit from direct links to the nearby airport, motorway and rail freight terminal. In addition to its excellent infrastructure Star Park offers investors land for im-mediate construction. The city attaches value to fast approvals processes and providing central contact partners as a service to business throughout the enti-re municipal area.
Halle (Saale) is the largest city in Saxony-Anhalt with a population of over 238,000. As a centre for the scien-ces and business innovation the city is home to Mar-tin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), pres-tigious research institutes, the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle and numerous
spin-offs from research facilities. Wein-berg Campus, the second largest techno-logy park in eastern Germany, supports in-novative fields of the future and promotes new developments in the bioscience and nano industries. The university institutes on the campus alone are home to 8,000 up-and-coming natural scientists. The campus is also the meeting place for start-up businesses and entrepreneurs on the one hand and on the other researchers from the MLU, Max Planck, Fraunhofer and Leibniz institutes as well as the Helm-holtz Association. So far over €1 billion has been invested here. More than 100 com-panies and institutes with around 5,600 employees are already established here.
Halle (Saale) is also home to a number of institutions with national and international operations. These in-clude the Leopoldina National Academy of Sciences and the Federal German Cultural Foundation (Kul-turstiftung). In the Franckesche Stiftungen (Francke Foundations) Halle has a baroque centre of educa-tion and the cradle of Pietism spanning the gap bet-ween the Reformation and the Enlightenment.
Halle (Saale) has positioned itself as a city for active people from all generations and a special location for culture, business and science – in other words, just the city for you and your operations.
I am delighted to welcome you to Halle (Saale)!

RETAIL, CULTURE & GASTRONOMY
LIFE AND LEISURE IN HANDEL'S BIRTHPLACE
Handel's birthplace has a lot to offer: theatres, an opera house, art galleries, cabarets, museums, cafes, restaurants, pubs, bistros and discos – together with a flourishing retail sector ranging from owner-operated boutiques to international chains. For families Halle (Saale) provides a range of leisure and excursion facilities.
The ‘Little Uli’ pub district
The pub andmusic scene
The historic old city is an attractive shopping centre with ideal retail facilities around the market square, Leipziger Straße, Kleinschmieden, Große Ulrichstraße and the surrounding area. Size approx. 80 ha, the inner city has developed over the centuries into a residential, working and cultural centre. Its characteristic features are large department stores, shopping precincts with well-known domestic and international retail chains, and owner-managed boutiques mixed with traditional craftsmanship. The special flair of the shopping centre is rounded off by a colourful range of restaurant and cultural facilities in historic buildings.
GERMANY'S GREENEST MAJOR CITY
Of all of Germany's large cities Halle (Saale) has the largest proportion of waterways, woods, parks and leisure areas (57%). For centuries now the people of Halle have greatly appreciated their 'islands of green'. For example, since the mid-19th century Peißnitz Is-land has served local people as a popular park. For
300 years the Botanical Gardens of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg have provided the uni-versity with a rich collection of plants for teaching and research purposes. The Doelauer Heide woods are an ideal place to enjoy peace and quiet, while long walks in the Saaletal/Klausberge landscape conservation area do wonders for body and soul.
“Halle has great cultural wealth and diversity. I am fascinated by the city's classical music scene with its many professional musicians, as well as the many children and young peop-le who simply enjoy making music.”

WEINBERG CAMPUS TECHNOLOGY PARK
Halle's Technology Park is the germ cell for the deve-lopment of the city from a traditional industrial centre to a high-tech location of the future. Cooperations between research institutes and companies together with joint projects between university and non-uni-versity institutions are the key to the successful im-plementation of this development. Weinberg Campus offers founders of start-up companies and investors top-class research and development partners and the opportunity to benefit from local synergies. Networks develop here in an interdisciplinary and multi-dimen-sional form. Weinberg Campus is only 2.5 km from the city centre. At present more than 100 visionary tech-nology enterprises benefit not just from the local con-centration of innovative potential and R & D in close contact with business, but also from high-capacity transport links and the parklike landscape in which the campus is located. The advantages provided by this location include not only fully developed business sites but also favourable rents for laboratories and of-fice space, a cutting-edge telecommunications net-work, consulting and seminar facilities.

GET STARTED AT RIEBECKPLATZ
Riebeckplatz is the city's most striking square and at the same time the heart of its infrastructure. Located bet-ween the city centre and the main railway station, this area features not only optimum transport links but a sofar unused building land potential of around 40,000 m². This makes it one of the most important deve-lopment locations in eastern Germany for investors in
office, hotel and service sectors. You benefit from the top location ready for building operations close to the city centre and railway station and owned by the mu-nicipality, which enables fast and targeted marketing. The success of the ongoing development process of the square is indicated, for example, by the latest hotel buil-ding project by the Intercontinental Hotel Group.
The urban project with huge potential for office, hotel, retail and residential units. Here new and established enterprises will find top locations – fast and without bureaucratic hurdles.

THE ARCHITECTURE
The competition for the urban planning design of RIEBECKPLATZ was won by the prestigious firm of Max Dudler architects, and then developed into a detailed overall plan with the planning officers of the City of Halle. Max Dudler describes the design de-veloped by his company as follows: "We are dealing with planning structures which on the one hand display all the attributes of traditional European urban development and on the other (...) the scale
of the modern city. (...) The result is streets, alleys, squares and sets of steps which are in spatial pro-portion both to the old city and to Riebeckplatz. (...). Their use is oriented inwards, but the focus remains in place, in the same way as Frankfurt's alleys all end at the banks of the Main and Hamburg's streets lead to the Binnenalster."

MITTELDEUTSCHES MULTIMEDIAZENTRUM MMZ
MMZ-Studios in the Mitteldeutschen Multimediazen-trum Halle (Saale) are among the most modern post-production facilities in Germany. At its core is the Dolby Atmos cinema mixing unit which can be used for both sound and image processing. This is supplemented by a 4K Color-Grading Studio and an Atmos Editsuite. This makes it possible to carry out all stages of post-production operations in one location. The portfolio of the municipal start-up and business incubation centre, which was set up specially for the media and creative industries, is supplemented by events facilities, the Fa-culty for Media and Communications Sciences of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, and a network of more than 50 companies which have established them-selves here.
Thanks to its unique combination of production, re-search, teaching and creative surroundings the MMZ attracts producers and creative spirits from the whole of Germany.
