Dear Parishioners,

In our second reading today, which is from the Letter to the Hebrews, we are reminded that “every high priest is taken from among men…No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God…” Jesus is the High Priest called and sent by the Father to offer the one sacrifice acceptable to God, that is, the sacrifice of himself on the Cross. He is the only Priest who has no need for making sin offering for himself because he is without sin. Every other priest is “beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people.” Every priest that is ordained and has received the Sacrament of Holy Orders shares in the Priesthood of Christ; he is configured to Christ the Head of the Body. The ordained priest stands in Persona Christi, that is, in the person of Christ as he offers up the one sacrifice acceptable to the Father. The sacrifice that Jesus left us as a memorial of his suffering and death when at the Last Supper he commanded his Apostles to “Do this in memory of Me”.

An infinite amount of graces are poured out at every Mass to help us grow in holiness to become more united with our God and one another through the greatest gift: the Holy Eucharist where Jesus gives us his very self. For our part we need to be properly disposed, to be in the state of grace (without serious sin on our soul) so that we can enter into a full, active, and conscious participation in the greatest gift that God gives to us. Only then can we unite ourselves to Jesus’ sacrifice made present at the altar that through him, with him, and in him we too surrender ourselves the Fa-ther.

In our Gospel today we hear of the Blind man, Bartimaeus crying out, “Jesus, son of David, have pity on me. And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent.” In Jesus’ time and in our time the crowd wants to silence believers; to keep them from coming to the one who can give them life. Bartimaeus persevered, “he kept calling out all the more, Son of David, have pity on me.” Jesus healed the blind man and told him, “Your faith has saved you.” We too must persevere in faith seeking the Lord through a life of personal holiness and charity. To grow in faith we need the help of the sac-raments, especially the sacrament of Reconciliation, where we tell our sins to the priest and receive the Lord’s healing. The crowd wanted blind Bartimaeus to be silent and the devil wants us to be silent and not confess our sins to the priest so that we would not grow stronger in faith and jeopardize our salvation. We too must persevere by going reg-ularly to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and keeping our souls right before God and then dining at the banquet of the Holy Eucharist.

Let us pray for the grace that the eyes of our soul may be opened and our faith strengthened so that one day we too will hear these words, “Your faith has saved you.”

Our Lady Queen of Peace pray for us,

Father Ed

Administrator

This Sunday evening, Oct. 25th we have the honor of displaying the missionary image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This image is an exact replica of the original and travels throughout the world. Many miracles and healings have been attributed to the image. Come and join us Next Sunday evening at 5:00 Pm in the Church for a Holy Hour with evening prayers, the Rosary, and Benediction, ending at 6:00 Pm.

We are still looking for volunteers to decorate their car trunks and park them in the Church parking lot and give out treats for our children who will be attending the Halloween Party on Friday, October 30, at 6:00 PM.

We are currently working on setting up a food pantry in our parish hall. It will be a wonderful way for us as a parish to evangelize by helping those who are in need, recognizing Christ in the poor, and serving them as our Lord has called us to do. (Please see the bulletin regarding food donations.)

Healing Mass

The Mass will be celebrated on Thursday Nov. 19th at 7:30 PM in the Church. The healing service will take place immediately after Mass; Father Ed will be celebrating the Mass. Light refresh-

ments will be served in the parish hall at the completion of the healing service. Healing has always been a part of the Church. Jesus healed the blind man, the deaf man, and the leper. We find in Sacred Scripture physical healings, heal-ing of relationships, psychological healing, financial heal-ing, and spiritual healing. Come with expectant faith and join us, and experience the Lord’s healing power.

It’s time to think ahead to December…

Members of the Women’s Club will
