ABOUT THE WARRIORS

The Corban University Warriors (7-16, 3-9 CCC) are currently ranked eighth in the confer-ence, one spot behind Evergreen. Their last weekend out they played Northwest Christian and fell short, but defeated New Hope Christian in a non-conference match up, 98-58.

LAST TIME THEY MET...Jan. 5, 2013Salem, Ore. – Senior Kelsea Hurliman led the Eastern Oregon women’s basketball team to their 8th Cascade Collegiate Conference victory over Corban University, 73-57. Hurliman led Eastern (17-2, 8-0 CCC) with 25 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field and 7-of-10 from behind the arc. Three other Mountaineer women finished in double digits as Brooke Randall and Korrie Bourn scored 11 points respectively. Nicole Redd finished with 10. Corban (3-14, 0-7 CCC) was led in scoring by Tess Bennett with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Emily Tsugawa and Tara Vanweerdhuizen finished with 13 and 8 points respectively. Corban jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before a three pointer by Randall put Eastern on the scoreboard. The two team then exchanged baskets until a couple of threes by Hurliman and lay-in by Taylor Riley gave EOU a 7 point lead midway through the half. The Mountaineers then went on a 14-0 run with 5:25 left to play to extend their lead. The Warriors then hit a couple of quick jumpers just before the end of the half sending Eastern to the locker room up, 42-32. As a team Eastern shot 48% (15-of-31) from the field for the half and an outstanding 61% (8-of-13) from downtown, Corban shot 31% (12-of-38) from the field and 36% (4-of-11) from the three point line. A quick basket by Corban to start the second half cut Easterns lead to just 8. EOU responded with a couple of quick baskets and never looked back as Eastern held Corban scoreless for 4 minutes midway through the half giving the Mountaineers their largest lead of the game, 63-40 after a three pointer by Hurliman. EOU finished the game shooting 39% (25-of-64) from the field and 42% (11-of-26) from behind the arc. Corban shot 33% (21-of-63) from the field and 30% (6-of-20) from the three point line.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The Cascade Conference season enters the final month of conference play this week with a full slate of games.Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho will look to extend their lead in the top two spots in the standings as they host Northwest Christian and Corban. In Portland, it will be Evergreen and Northwest visiting Warner Pacific and Concordia in a quartet of conference tilts.The final conference game matches Oregon Tech traveling to Southern Oregon on Saturday. SOU will also take on New Hope Christian on Tuesday night in a non-conference game in Eugene, Ore.

ABOUT THE BEACONS

The Northwest Christian Beacons (13-10, 6-6 CCC) sit in the middle of the Cascade Colle-giate Conference. During their last weekend out, they defeated Corban 76-72 to bring their win streak to two. The Beacons will be looking to break the .500 mark in conference play this weekend.

WEEK FOURTEEN: CORBAN & NORTHWEST CHRISTIANTHE LAST TIME OUT ...EASTERN WOMEN EDGE EVERGREEN...Jan. 25, 2013Olympia, Wash. – The No.5 Eastern Oregon women’s basketball team held on to defeat Evergreen State College an Cascade Col-legiate Conference matchup, 50-45. Senior Chayla Jones led the Mountaineers (23-2, 13-0 CCC) in scoring with 15 points and 9 rebounds while Senior Brooke Randall added 11 points and 5 assists.

Evergreen (5-12, 4-9 CCC) was led by Danielle Swain who nearly had a double-double with 9 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate Jessica Denmon also finished with 9 point and added 4 rebounds.

The Mountaineers jumped out to a four-point lead before the Geoducks got their offense rolling. Midway through the half the teams were tied at 14 apiece. With 7:15 left to play in the half that Eastern gained their largest lead, 19-14. Evergreen wouldn’t go away and took a one-point lead, 22-21, at the four minute mark after a three pointer by Swain. EOU would go on a 6-0 run in the last two minutes and take a 27-22 lead into halftime.

For the first half the Mountaineers would shoot 11-of-27 (40%) from the field and 3-of-7 (42%) from behind the arc. The Goeducks shot 9-of-24 (37%) from the field and 3-of-11 (27%) from the three point line.

Eastern came out of the locker room refocused in the second half and took a quick eleven point lead after back to back threes by Senior Kelsea Hurliman and Randall. Evergreen then went on a 7-0 run and cut the Mountaineers lead to just four with 15:16 left to play in the half. Both teams would go scoreless for a three min-ute stretch three, until a jumper by Jones with 7:24 on the clock extended the Mountaineers lead back to 10. ESC was relentless as they cut the lead back to four with just three minutes left to play. Evergreen was forced to foul in the last couple of minutes sending Eastern to the charity stripe where they would shoot 7-of-8 down the stretch to come away with the victory.

Eastern finished shooting 17-of-49 (34%) from the field and 5-of-14 (35%) from the three point line. Evergreen finished shoot-ing 17-of-46 from (37%) from the field and 4-of-14 (28%) from behind the arc.

NO. 5 EASTERN DOWNS NORTHWEST..Jan. 26, 2013Kirkland, Wash. – The No. 5 Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team would continue their winning streak tonight as they defeated Northwest University, 89-53. The Mountaineers turned an eleven point halftime lead into a 36 point blowout victory. Kelsea Hurliman led the way for the Mountaineers (22-2, 12-0 CCC) with 20 points and 5 assists. Brooke Randall added 19 points and Korrie Bourn finished with a double-double scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Northwest University (2-17, 1-11 CCC) was led by Jordan Asher with 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Domi Mendezona and Alyssa Dario contributed with 15 and 10 points respectively. Northwest University jumped out to an early 10-3 lead in the first two minutes of the game. Eastern answered with a 14-0 run of

their own. At the ten-minute mark the Mountaineers led 24-17 and would take a double digit lead into halftime, 43-32. Eastern shot 14-of-32 (43%) from the field and 7-of-15 (46%) from behind the arc in the first half. Northwest shot 11-of-30 (36%) from the field and 8-of-19 (42%) from behind the three point line. The second half was all Eastern, as they would extend their lead to as much as 41 with just under nine minutes to play. The Moun-taineers held Northwest scoreless for four minutes before a three pointer by NU’s Dario broke the drought. All of the Mountaineers would see the court tonight as they outscored Northwest in the second half 46-21 and out rebounded them 46-31. EOU finished shooting 30-of-59 (50%) from the field and 14-of-27 (51%) from downtown. NU shot 18-of-60 (30%) from the field and 12-of-33 (36%) from behind the three point line.
