On Tuesday February 26th, 3J and 3/4D went on an excursion to the Minnamurra
Rainforest as part of their unit on National Parks. The weather was wonderful and owing
to heavy rains over the weekend, the upper falls were spectacular. The students learnt all
about the flora and fauna in the park and a small group of students were lucky enough to
spot a Lyrebird putting on a display.
Dear Parents,
Wednesday March 6th is national P&C Day. It is a time to reflect on the importance of this organisation to our school. The
P&C is an integral part of our school and it has had a very positive impact on the education of your children. The next meeting of the
P&C will be the annual general meeting and will be held on Tuesday March 12th, commencing at 7.00 pm. I look forward to seeing
you there. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the P&C, staff and parents for the ‘Welcome BBQ’. It was by all accounts a
very successful event and it was great to see so many family members come along.
This week should see the finalisation of the works undertaken to upgrade the Infants Toilet Block. If all goes to plan the
block should be open this Friday. This is a welcome upgrade to our facilities.
Can I take this opportunity to thank all of the parents who paid their fees and contributions for the year. This has certainly
made a difference to our school accounts and I thank you for your consideration. In line with the expenditure of all voluntary school
contributions on student focussed programs, so far this has raised an additional $700 for the Library, $700 for specialist art supplies
and $700 for sporting equipment.
This Term, all of the students in Years 3 to 6 will be participating in an anti-bullying program run by Dr Patty Rose. The
program is designed to combine learning with fun, using stories, games and guided visualisations to educate and empower children,
whilst promoting mutual respect. The note will be reissued on Friday as the sessions will be held in Week 8 from Monday 18 th to
Wednesday 20th March.
Next week the St George Illawarra Dragons will be here as part of their recruitment drive. This will involve the Stage Two
classes in a skill session followed by a short assembly. I know many of our students will be looking forward to their visit.

Attention parents/carers
You are not permitted to drive into the school to drop off your children. Please note that the driveways and car-parks
are for the use of staff, contractors and school deliveries only.
Driving in and out of the school at pickup and drop-off times endangers staff, other
parents and students.
If you are concerned about your child getting inside school grounds safely,
please park in the designated areas of the street and walk in with your child.
Your co-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

PREMIERS READING CHALLENGE
March 1st to September 1st, 2013.
WHAT IS THE PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE?
The Premier's Reading Challenge is a NSW Government initiative that is aimed at encouraging students in Kinder through to
Year 9 to READ! Students must complete a set amount of reading to meet the challenge.
To experience a book a child can be read to, participate in a shared reading of the book or read part or all of the book
independently.
K- 2 need to read or be read 30 books.
3-6 need to read 20 longer / more difficult books.
It can be books from home, from the school library or even Wollongong Library. They do not have to be listed on the
Premier’s Reading challenge booklist.
Each book is recorded on the Premier’s Reading Challenge reading log. Copies of these are kept in the Library. Just record the
title and author and I will fill in the rest.
It is optional for students to enter. But here at Lindsay Park, we would love to see as many students as possible have a go.
Students who successfully complete the Challenge will receive a PRC certificate and appear on the PRC Honour Roll The
student’s photo will also be displayed on our PRC wall in our school Library (thank you to Mrs. Guy). Students who complete
the Challenge for four years receive a gold certificate.
I will be speaking with all classes about the Premiers Reading Challenge during their library time, and will hand out the
reading logs to the interested children.
If you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to come in and see me.
Thank you,
R.Colquhoun (Librarian)
