Tomorrow is my last day at Lindsay Park. I will miss the school and all the wonderful stu-

dents and families we have here. I have very much enjoyed my time at this lovely school and

will be sad to leave, but retirement is calling and it’s time to go. A big thank you to all the

parents and students who have wished me well, it is very much appreciated. I hope to drop in

from time to time to see how everyone is.

This will be my last Tallong, I will be handing over the reigns to the very capable Mrs Brin-

ton, so if you have any news about something great one of our students has achieved, please

be sure and pass it on to her so she can include it in the next Tallong.

    COMING EVENTS

    P&C NEWS

We held our AGM on Tuesday night with our 2017 executive elected.

    President: Kerryn M.

    Treasurer: Peter B.

    Secretary: Becky K.

    Senior Vice President: Trish D.

    Junior Vice President: Elisabeth S.

    Auxiliary Convenor: Raelene J.

Sincere thanks to Sean K. for undertaking the role of treasurer for the last three years, we appreciate your time and effort.

The AGM was followed by a mammoth regular meeting! It was great to see some new faces and lots of our regular attendees.

There were plenty of tired faces by the end but we were productive and worked our way through a lot of business items. Some

of the decisions made included purchasing large pump pack sun creams for classrooms, ordering and paying for yellow top re-

cycling bins, approving acquisition of bench seats to be used by the green team, supply of materials to create a dry waste bay

alongside the compost bins, confirming the disco date as 15/09/17, approving P&C contribution towards new school laptops and

L3resources, identifying fundraising/resource goals for the upcoming Festival, agreement to trial a change of night for the June

P&C meeting (mark Thursday 8th June in your diary!) and more!

Please remember, all are welcome to attend our regular P&C meetings. Our next meeting date is Tuesday 9th May at 7pm. Hope

    to see you there!

    Congratulations to Emily S.

    who this morning shaved off

    her hair to raise awareness

    and funds for the Leukae-

    mia Foundation. Emily has

    raised approximately$5600

    through her involvement in

    the World’s Greatest Shave.

    Today a representative from

    the Leukaemia Foundation

spoke to our students at our

    assembly and acknowledged

    Emily’s outstanding efforts.

    Well done Emily!

  • Principal’s Report Dear Parents and Carers,

    Swimming Champions

Congratulations to our South Coast Regional Swimming Carnival representatives, there were some fabu-lous performances. We are very proud of you all for your great efforts at this very high level of competi-tion.

    Parent Online Payments

It is now possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card. This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school. Items that can be paid include: voluntary contributions, excursions, sports fees, creative arts and sales to students.

There is also a category called “Other” – this is to cover items not covered in the headings. “Other” can be used to make a complete payment of a school invoice. School uniforms cannot be paid for online as they are managed separately by the P&C. The payment page is accessed from the school’s website: www.lindsaypk-p.schools.nsw.edu.au - $Make a Payment link

You must enter students name and class OR the students name and date of birth and select the item you are paying for ie: excursion. Details of payments are processed daily against your child’s invoice. You will not receive a receipt as one has been issued from your payment page.

    EFTPOS

We have recently introduced EFTPOS in our school office and this seems to be very well received. Please note that the office can only process your EFTPOS payments in the morning.

    EdYOUtopia

The EduYOUtopia anti-bullying sessions will be held with Dr Patty Rose again this year on Tuesday 21st March. Incidentally, this day is also Harmony Day, which celebrates diversity in our school. This workshop has become an integral part of our student welfare program each year and Dr Rose constantly builds on what the students have learnt the previous year. Payment for this is made through the school fees. There is a parent workshop with Dr.Patty Rose at 12.30-1.00pm in the school hall all parents and toddlers are welcome to attend.

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

This Friday 17th March is National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. Bullying is defined as an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that causes physical and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power over one or more persons. Bullying can happen in person or online, and it can be obvious (overt) or hid-den (covert). Bullying of any form or for any reason can have long-term effects on those involved, includ-ing bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying. Classes will be discussing the meaning of this national day on Friday and this mes-sage will be followed up on Tuesday through the EduYOUtopia workshops.

    Harmony Day

This year Lindsay Park Public School will be celebrating Harmony Day on Tuesday 21st March. Harmony Day is a day to celebrate the many cultures that call Australia home and to eliminate racial discrimination. Students may wear something orange or come to school in their cultural dress if they wish. Students will be involved in flag drawings and paintings during class which will be displayed as a mural. Don’t forget to wear something orange and respect each other's cultural backgrounds! Thanks to Lucy C. for her initiative in organising this day.

    Tell Them From Me Survey

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

  • More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers inter-act with them.

Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 13 March and 7 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students in Years 4, 5 and 6s. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

    School Hours

Lately I have noticed quite a lot of children waiting on the verandah in the morning before 8.20am. Teach-ers are on duty from 8.20am and therefore, children are not supervised before this time. Children should arrive at school between 8.20am and 8.50am.

Outside School Hours Care Survey (OSHC)

The Department of Education requires OSHC facilities on school sites to have a Licence Agreement. Cur-rent Department policy indicates that schools are unable to directly negotiate with For–Profit organisations for OSHC services. What this means is that the school (in conjunction with the Asset Management Unit) need to proceed to tender for an OSHC operator. Policy indicates that we go to open tender, which means that the current provider will have the opportunity to tender. The first step in this process is to sur-vey the school community. The survey is included and I would greatly appreciate it if they could be re-turned no later than Friday 31st March.

    Teachers are Learners Too

Thursday 16th March: Mrs Dowling, Miss Martin, Ms Condran and Mrs Combe start their Language Learn-ing and Literacy training at West Wollongong PS.

Mrs Morath and Mrs Horobin will attend Focus on Reading facilitator training at Nareena Hills PS.

Mrs Bailey will attend Reading Recovery training at Warilla Office.

    Farewell Mrs Guy

This edition of the Tallong is very significant as it marks the very last one for Mrs Guy. I am very appreciative of Mrs Guy’s wonderful ability to ‘brighten up’ the newsletter with her graphics and photos. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Mrs Guy and I will certainly miss her incredible contributions. She has had an enormous impact on the lives of so many chil-dren, not only at our school for the last 11 years but previously at Coniston PS for 11 years and Wollongong City Library before that. Her long career in schools and libraries is a testament to her dedication and desire to make a difference for children and their families. I wish her lots of happiness and health in her retirement and thank her, on behalf of our school community for everything she has done for our school. We will miss you dearly Mrs Guy! We will be having a Farewell Tunnel for Mrs Guy on Friday 17th March at 2.30pm. I welcome everyone to attend this special occasion.

    Kind regards,

    Jacqui Conway

    Principal
