dren were given a very informative talk on the flora and fauna found in the park fol-

lowed by a bushwalk down the Honeymoon track to the river where they had lunch

and participated in a number of different activities. Special thanks to Mrs Jill Bell,

Last week members of the SRC and Mr. Cusack aided by Mr. Lochhead, planted 12 new

shrubs and trees in Lindsay Park grounds. We hope the new plantings will bring enjoyment

to our Lindsay Park families now and in the future. We are committed to maintaining our

beautiful school environment for our children and also for the beautiful Australian wildlife

that we are lucky to have in residence.

On Wednesday, 12th August, Year 6 is holding a Mufti Day to raise funds for

the year 6 gift to the school at the end of the year. Students can wear their fa-

vourite team colours. Gold coin donation required.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

PIKELETS, PAPER PLANES AND POPCORN

Last Friday, the school community launched its Kidsmatter Program with a ‘Pikelets, Paper Planes and Popcorn’ afternoon. Congrat-

ulations to our P&C and staff for their hard work in organizing and running this very successful event. Through the planned activi-

ties on the afternoon we were able to showcase elements of the program. Over the next twelve months you will here much about

Kidsmatter at Lindsay Park and I would encourage you to use this link https://www.kidsmatter.edu.au to learn more about the pro-

gram if you have not already done so.

NAIDOC WEEK

On Thursday the school held its NAIDOC Week assembly. I am proud to say that Charlotte one of our Year 5 students delivered the

NAIDOC Week Assembly Address. Following the assembly, all of our students were involved in a range of Indigenous Games led

by our Senior Students.

COMMEMORATIVE TREE PLANTING

On Friday, in commemoration of the Centenary of the August Offensive on Gallipoli that included such battles as Lone Pine the

student leaders, accompanied by Mr. Doug Johnson of the Wollongong RSL sub branch, will plant a gum tree in the western area of

our playground. This tree will form a centre piece of the Australian Native Garden that is being developed in that area.

INTERRELATE

Next Thursday, the school will be hosting Interrelate to present two key programs for our students. Quoting from the Interrelate web-

site:

‘Interrelate has been teaching sexuality and relationship education in NSW schools for over 80 years. We have a reputation for non-

discriminatory and open teaching on sensitive issues including sexuality, gender identity, bullying awareness and respectful relation-

ships.

Our highly trained and skillful presenters deliver a range of programs to assist children and parents to communicate with each other

about fundamental emotional and social development issues.

Interrelate has the acknowledgement of government, education and health authorities to provide relationship education in schools

throughout NSW.’

If you are interested in having your child participate in the event please complete the permission note and return it with the cost of

the activity to the School Office.

VISUAL ARTS WORKSHOP

On Monday the school hosted a visual arts workshop for the Figtree Community of Schools. This Year 5 to 8 activity was Lindsay

Park’s contribution to the Community of Schools Enrichment Program. The students had a very successful day and we look forward

to the next activity in the program of enrichment activities.

FIGTREE HIGH SCHOLARSHIP

Each year Figtree High School offers a scholarship for a student in Year 6 who will be attending Figtree High next year. The scholar-

ship covers a lot of the expenses of a student in their first year of secondary education. If your child is attending Figtree High next

year and you would like to apply for the scholarship please obtain an application form from the Administration Office.

VOLUNTARY SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS

I have been asked about how the funds that are raised from the Volunteer School Contribution that are used at Lindsay Park. The

school has over the last two years had a significant focus on the Visual Arts and the funds raised have provided a comprehensive

range of resources for the students to draw upon. As well, we are constantly adding to the stock of books for the students to borrow

from the Library, the majority of which are acquired through funds raised through the Voluntary School Contribution.

LUNCHTIME PROGRAMS

Last Tallong I wrote about the Writing Program that operates at the school. In this edition I wish to talk about the Lunchtime Pro-

grams that are in operation at Lindsay Park. The program is designed to offer a broad range of activities so as to appeal to as wide a

group of students as possible and to offer opportunities for our students to interact with a staff and students in a social setting as well

as furthering their interests and skills. The nature of the activity or specific targeting by the staff means that a lunchtime activity they

can be designed for specific grades, group of grades or the whole school. They may operate all year as in the Library and the Com-

puter Laboratory or operate for a specific period of time as in the Handball Competition. Lunchtime activities are organized on a

voluntary basis by the students, for example the SRC running the Handball Competition or senior students such as Robbie with the

Chess Club or by the Staff. At the time of writing we are offering:

Library, Art Group, Orchestra, Handball Competition, Chess Club & Knitting

From next week on, we will also offer a Homework Club with a staff member on Thursdays to assist students with

their homework. The Lunchtime Programs are an example of the Kidsmatter initiative at work in our school.
