Dear Parents,

SASS Week

Last week was SASS Week which is a chance to recognise the fabulous work done by our School Adminis-

trative and Support Staff. Mrs Bond, Mrs Guy, Mrs Brinton, Mr Guy, Mr Lochhead, Mrs Williams, Mrs

Kitchen, Mrs Graovac and Mrs Kassas make up our school’s SASS Team. Together, they have worked

hard to ensure our school operates smoothly and our students are well-supported. I would like to thank all

these wonderful staff members for their outstanding contribution to our school community.

School Evaluation

Every year, schools conduct evaluations of their programs and practices to ensure we can make evidence-based decisions

around school planning and improvement. One of the ways we gather information is by surveying parents using a tool provided

by the Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation. It is called Tell Them From Me and it requires parents to provide feed-

back on a variety of domains to do with communication, school culture, inclusivity, learning, positive behaviour and safety.

Your input provides a valuable insight into our school and I thank everyone for their participation in this evaluation. You can

access the survey online using this link https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/7gjb8 We will also push out a link on the school App,

which will take you directly to the survey.

Another evaluation we will be undertaking is a review of our Learning and Support Team. In the coming weeks, randomly se-

lected parents, students and teachers will be asked to respond to some focus questions that will assist us in refining our learning

and support processes. I appreciate your time in advance on both of these evaluations and look forward to sharing with you the

findings and recommendations for future planning.

Staffing news

Today, Mrs Sernig starts Long Service Leave for the remainder of Term 3. 1S will be in the very capable hands of Mrs Adams.

Mrs Tome will relieve as Assistant Principal K-2 for the remainder of the term. Mrs Horobin also starts Long Service Leave

today and will be replaced by Miss Harris until Friday 16th September. Mr Lochhead begins Long Service Leave on Wednesday

14th September. He will be replaced by Mr Samways until Friday 2nd December. It is also exciting to announce that the school

has been given advice that we can proceed with an open merit selection process to appoint an additional permanent teacher to

our school. The selection panel will consist of myself, a teacher and a parent representative. Panel training for interested P&C

members will take place next week and the panel will be formed shortly afterwards. It is anticipated that the successful appli-

cant will commence teaching here in 2017.

Safety around the school

I would like to express my thanks to parents, students and staff for their assistance in ensuring everyone got home safely on

Wednesday afternoon, due to the road closure. It’s times like these that the school App is very useful indeed. Students were able

to leave safely, through the back gates and onto Risley Rd and I would like to encourage you to consider using this as your per-

manent access point to the school. Parking is more freely available on Risley Rd and it is only a short walk to our back gates.

Can I also remind students that playing in the school grounds after the bell is not allowed, even if supervised by an adult, due to

safety reasons.

Our thoughts go out to the Davis family, who lost their home on Wednesday. Their grown up children attended Lindsay Park

PS about 15 years ago. The family have asked me to pass on their appreciation of the warm wishes and offers of support from

our school community. They have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community and feel at this stage that they have

enough resources to make them comfortable.

Early Stage 1 Excursion

Our Kinder students and teachers are looking forward to their excursion on Monday to Shoalhaven Zoo. Students need to re-

member to wear full school uniform and bring their lunch, recess and a hat. Students need to be at school by 8.50am. Have a

wonderful time; I can’t wait to hear all about it!

Teachers are learners too!

Last week, on Wednesday 31st August, Mr McGuire attended a training workshop in writing Access Requests at Warilla Office.

Over two extended afternoons held last Tuesday 30th August and Monday 5th September, all of our teachers participated in pro-

fessional learning around the Literacy Continuum, with a focus on Writing. We are really excited about this new learning and

aim to have a school-wide focus on planning, assessing and teaching Writing K-6, embedding learning intentions and success

criteria to provide explicit, systematic, balanced and integrating learning. All students will have a personal learning goal in

Writing and we look forward to seeing this motivate our students to achieve their best. Also this week, Mrs Sernig and Mrs

Dunbar will attend ‘A Leader’s Influence’ at Barrack Heights PS, which will run over three afternoon workshops. Mrs Bond

and Mrs Brinton continue their training in the new finance and wellbeing system, LMBR.

P&C

This Tuesday 13th September is our monthly P&C meeting, held in the Library at 7pm. I will be sharing the review of our En-

rolment Policy, school NAPLAN results and school evaluation for 2016. I look forward to meeting you there.

Have a wonderful fortnight,

Kind regards,

Jacqui Catford

Miss Mizzi is retiring!

Thank you and farewell to Lindsay Park School.

It is time to say goodbye to Lindsay Park Public School and to teaching. After thirty six years, twenty seven of them here, I have decided, for various reasons, to call it a day. My last teaching day will be October 27 but before I leave I need to say thank you to many people.

To the parents of this school, thank you for entrusting your child’s well-being and education into my hands. For being willing participants in reading groups, sport, craft activities, supporters in the Gifted and Talented Programme, ‘Showcase’ and anything else I dreamt up but may have forgotten. The path at times may not have been smooth but somehow together we always managed to do what was best for your child . Your support for me as a teacher has been deeply felt and very much appreciated.

Thank you to the hard working P&C, currently led by Kerryn Morrison and Sue McCartney and to the Auxiliary, headed by Kim Morris. Their work has been tireless in fund raising for the school in particular with fetes, raffles and stalls. The school owes many of its resources to these two groups which has contributed to making learning more fun and more com-fortable, especially with the reading resources, IWB and air conditioners!

To the past and present students of this school, thank you for making my teaching career what it is: interesting, forever evolving, challenging but fulfilling. Some days you made me laugh, other days you drove me to find solace in chocolate or shopping, but most of it I would not change for the world. Nothing is more rewarding than experiencing a student’s first day at school, watching them learn, striving to do their best, continuing to progress through the years into a knowledgea-ble, caring, responsible member of our community. It is always a pleasure to chat with past pupils when encountered out-side of the school, so please stop and say ‘Hi’ if you see me. As a teacher I will always be interested in your future and your achievements, whether they are big or small.

Thank you to the students who participated in, and enjoyed the workshops presented through the Gifted and Talented Programme. The interest you showed and fun days you talked about made the programme worthwhile. To the many ‘Showcase’ participants, thank you for supporting this great idea I had one night at two in the morning! You made our school assemblies fun, colourful and entertaining! The depth of the talent in our school never ceased to amaze me and I hope your involvement with ‘Showcase’ continues into the future.

Thank you to my valued colleagues: the office staff, teachers, teacher’s aides, school counsellor and principal, this staff without a doubt, has been the best mix of people with whom I have ever worked. We worked as a team to provide the most productive learning environment and experiences for the children, from sports carnivals, musicals, Southern Stars, debat-ing, camp, lunchtime groups, dancing, chess club, book parades, colourful murals, event photographs and many more activ-ities. We supported each other and shared experiences: the younger teachers help the more ’experienced’ staff with using technology and in return we assisted them with tips on old fashioned teaching when the Interactive White Board was not working. We supported each other not only as professionals but also as friends, through thick and thin. Thanks for your friendship, support, patience with technology and for your inspiration to try new ideas to enhance my teaching experience and the students’ learning.

Thank you to all my Kindergarten and year One classes. You made me smile and laugh with your words of wisdom and your views on life. You have all taught me the value of patience and to keep calm when the day does not go according to plan. You have made me a more flexible teacher by showing me that changing the plan of a lesson midstream is a good thing. This applies especially to the Creative Arts; the intuitive imagination of a six year old sometimes takes precedence over one’s program. We all learn from each other regardless of our ages! Like the school’s symbol, you have been my tree of life. You have always made me feel so special and appreciated and this I will truly miss!

However, KM I am not completely leaving you. I will also be at school some days to complete reports and other paper-work so I will pop in to visit you.

I have spoken and joked about retirement for years but writing this now it has become so real and final, and a little bit scary. People have asked me what will I do in my retirement? First on the agenda will be to sleep in; second will be to stay up really late; third will be travelling. That takes care of the first five months. After that more time will be spent with fami-ly, friends, ‘doing lunch’, volunteer work, scrapbooking, making photobooks and planning the next holiday!

As a teacher I have been on an amazing journey meeting many wonderful people and making many special memories.

Thank you and farewell

Ms Mizzi

Attendance It is important to establish consistent attendance habits early. Our school bell rings at

8.50am every day and it is expected that all students are at school and ready to start the

day of learning with their class. When a student is late, they often miss out on vital mod-

elled teaching that sets the scene for the rest of the morning. If your child is late, they

will need to be signed in by an adult at the office. To encourage all students to be at

school every day, on time, we will be conducting a lucky door prize every morning. One

student will be drawn out and announced over the P.A. every day at 9.00am to win a

canteen voucher. The prize can only be claimed if the student is here on time. Thank you

for your cooperation in developing this important, life-long habit for our students.
