Belleaire  Elementary  Motto

Nothing Less Than Our Best!

Here  are  a  few  reminders  to  help  keep  the  school  year  running

smoothly.

• Please  check  in  with  the  office  after  you  are  buzzed  in  every  time  you  come  into  the  building.    We  want  to  be  able  to  greet  you  and  be  aware  of  who  is  in  our  building  at  all  times.

 • Students  enter  and  exit  the  building  through

their  assigned  grade  level  doors.    This  keeps  us  from  having  congested  hallways  and  doors  during  those  busy  times.

 • School  hours:    8:00  a.m.  -‐  3:10  p.m.    Students

should  not  be  arriving  before  7:50  a.m.  unless  they  are  eating  breakfast.    Breakfast  starts  at  7:30  a.m.  and  ends  at  7:50  a.m.

 • If  your  child  will  be  absent  or  tardy  for  any

reason,  please  call  the  office  at  402-‐293-‐4510  and  let  us  know,  otherwise  we  will  call  you.

Congratulations  to  the  following  classes  for  earning  Belleaire  Expectation

Classroom  of  the  Week!

Ms.  Bernstein’s  6th  Grade,  Mrs.  Helmick’s  Kindergarten  Class,  Mrs.  Ellis’  2nd  grade  Class,  and  Mrs.  Mathis’  ELL  Classes

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR IS WHAT WE ARE ABOUT

The A.C.E. Assemblies are a part of our Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS). A stands for Academics, C stands for Citizenship, and E stands for Effort. We want to encourage students to make decisions that demonstrate how they are responsible, respectful, and ready to learn. PBIS also includes discussions about Panther Pride and school-wide Expectations. Belleaire just loves to recognize our students with positive celebrations through Panther Praises and Classroom of the Week. We are excited to celebrate as individuals, classrooms, and as a school. At the end of every quarter, if your student has not received an office referral then the Belleaire Boogie Club is the place for them. This is a fun, highly energetic, mini school dance that promotes and celebrates those who have not gotten an office referral over that current quarter.

Greetings  From  Mrs.  Darlington’s  3rd  Grade  Every  day  is  a  great  day  for  learning  in  Room  20!    We  work  together  daily  to  be  responsible  class  members,  respectful  citizens  and  ready  to  learn.

We  are  currently  learning  multiplication  in  Math,  which  is  very  exciting  for  the  students.  They  love  to  share  the  multiplication  facts  they  are  learning.

The  students  have  been  enjoying  our  new  Reading  Street  curriculum.    Our  current  unit  has  included  stories  of  Smart  Solutions.    The  students’  excitement  about  reading  is  demonstrated  in  our  outstanding  showing  in  the  Belleaire  Million  Minute  Challenge.    We  take  pride  every  week  in  the  increase  in  our  minutes  as  the  students  return  their  reading  forms.

Another  exciting  part  of  being  in  3rd  grade  is  that  we  learn  to  write  in  cursive!    Our  new  Handwriting  Without  Tears  curriculum  has  proven  to  be  a  great  resource  for  the  students.

Remember  to  read  every  day,  and  keep  practicing  those  multiplication  facts.    There  is  an  incredible  amount  of  growth  that  occurs  during  the  3rd  grade  year  –  and  every  day  brings  wonderful  new  opportunities!

 Mrs.  Ellis’  2nd  Grade

Stop the presses! Let's see what's happening in Mrs. Ellis's second grade class. We are all very excited as each student now has their own individual iPad, thanks to the #ipadacademy. Some of the apps we are currently using include iTunes U and Notability. We are using these apps to complete our Daily Spiral Review and Problem of the Day, which is part of the Math curriculum. We will continue to use the iPads throughout the year in all areas of the curriculum.

More  From  Mrs.  Brand  the  Reading  Teacher  In  one  month,  Belleaire  staff  and  students  have  read  over  120,000

minutes  toward  our  Million  Minute  Reading  Challenge!    Why  is  it  so  important  for  your  child  to  read  20  minutes  per  night?

Let’s  check  out  the  math:

Student  A  reads  20  minutes  per  night.

Student  B  reads  5  minutes  per  night.

By  the  end  of  a  week,  Student  A  will  have  read  140  minutes.

Student  B  will  have  read  35  minutes.

At  the  end  of  a  month,  Student  A  will  have  read  560  minutes.

Student  B  will  have  read  140  minutes.

When  the  school  year  is  over,  Student  A  will  have  read  7,280  minutes.

Student  B  will  have  read  1,820  minutes.

From  the  beginning  of  kindergarten  to  the  end  of  sixth  grade,

Student  A  will  have  read  50,960  minutes.

Student  B  will  have  read  12,740  minutes.

Which  student  would  you  expect  to  be  a  better  reader,  score  higher  on  tests,  and  have  a  superior  vocabulary?

Help  our  school  reach  our  goal  of  reading  one  million  minutes

by  having  your  child  read  20  minutes  per  night

and  turn  in  his/her  recording  sheet  every  Monday!

The  student  in  each  class  who  reads  the  most  minutes  at  the  end  of  the  school  year  will  get  to  help  make  Mrs.  Schubauer  and  Mr.  Wellmann  into

human  ice  cream  sundaes!

Please  make  sure  to  speak  with  your  child  about  the  importance  of  showing  his/her

Panther  Pride  each  day  at  school.

Panther  Pride  Pledge:  We  Will  Be  .  .  .  Responsible,  Respectful  &

Ready!

Panther PRIDE! Practicing school safety Accepting responsibility Noticing when others need a helping hand Taking care of my classroom and school Handling conflict with care Embracing others differences Respecting adults and peers Showing my best effort

A  Note  From  Mrs.  Campbell’s  Preschool  The preschool room is quite busy, but we are already having so much fun! We made our own play-doh and have been creating a lot of projects in the art center. A class favorite was making letters with our fingers in shaving cream. It was a little messy, but super fun! We just finished our Beginning of the Year unit. The preschoolers learned about the classroom rules and routines. We talked about the people who work in our school and even got a special visit from Mr. Jim, our head custodian! We just started our unit on Buildings. The preschoolers love to build tall towers in the block center and are curious about what they see in our school building. The preschoolers went on a field trip to Fontenelle Forest in September! This was the first time being on a bus for some of the preschoolers, so it was quite an adventure. We explored the forest and saw a turtle, rabbit, and snake. They even let us touch the rabbit and snake! Remember to keep reading to your preschooler at home! This class loves books…our reading center has been extra busy this year!

Belleaire  Direction  Statement:    The  Belleaire  community  prepares  students  for  their  future  by  setting  high  expectations  for  all.    We  ensure  that  students  achieve  “Nothing  Less  Than  Our  Best”  by  fostering  a  climate  of  teamwork,  academic  excellence,  and  respect.
