The Book of James“Judgment Day”
By Pastor Fee SolivenJames 5:1-5
Wednesday Night May 1, 2013
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon
you!
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.
4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the
Lord of Sabaoth.
14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little
time and then vanishes away.
5 You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you!
Isaiah 13:6-116 Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand!
It will come as destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore all hands will be limp, Every man's heart will melt, 8 And they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will
take hold of them; They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; They will be
amazed at one another; Their faces will be like flames. 9 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, To lay the land desolate; And He
will destroy its sinners from it. 10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be
darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine. 11 "I will punish the world for its evil, And the
wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, And will lay low
the haughtiness of the terrible.
Matthew 8:12"But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth."
2 Timothy 3:1-61 But know this, that in the last days
perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money,
boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful,
unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of
good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
Matthew 22:1-141 And Jesus answered and spoke to them
again by parables and said: 2 "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3 and sent out his servants to call those
who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. 4 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to
the wedding." ' 5 "But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. 6 And the rest seized his servants, treated them
spitefully, and killed them. 7 But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And
he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8
Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were
not worthy. 9 Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite
to the wedding.' 10 "So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there
who did not have on a wedding garment. 12 So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you
come in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. 13
Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and
cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 14 "For many are called, but few are chosen."
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
Matthew 6:19-2119 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust
destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure
is, there your heart will be also.
Proverbs 11:28"He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage"
Proverbs 13:7"There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; And one who makes himself
poor, yet has great riches"
3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.
Proverbs 27:20"Hell and Destruction are never full; So the eyes of man are never satisfied"
Luke 12:16-2116 Then He spoke a parable to them,
saying: "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’
18 So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my
goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be
merry." ' 20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?' 21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is
not rich toward God."
4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the
Lord of Sabaoth.
Luke 16:19-3119 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. 20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of
sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring
to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And
being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 Then he cried
and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the
tip of his finger in water and cool my
tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' 25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil
things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this,
between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.' 27 Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house, 28 for I
have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.‘ 29 Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' 30 And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from
the dead, they will repent.' 31 But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded
though one rise from the dead.' "
5 You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.
Revelation 18:1-101 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. 2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, "Babylon the
great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the
wrath of her fornication, the kings of the
earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.“ 4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest
you receive of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6 Render to
her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for
her. 7 In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, 'I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.' 8 "Therefore her plagues will come in one
day--death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire,
for strong is the Lord God who judges her. 9 "The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they
see the smoke of her burning, 10 standing at a distance for fear of her torment,
saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your
judgment has come.'
