Imperial CountyFACES for the Future
My experience in Imperial County FACES for the Future was superb. Thissummer consisted of intense, yet helpful two weeks. The first week wasfocused mostly on basic skills such as, taking vital signs, practicing patientcare, and medical math. The structure of the first week was very similar toan average day of a nursing student. We would start the day in our groups, consisting of four FACES student and one IVC Nursing student. In theclassroom, our IVC instructors introduced us to something different everyday, such as heart problems, respiratory system, and diabetes. After
learning about them in the classroom we would then go and practice in thesimulation labs. These skills I found very helpful to use in our clinicalrotations. For these health complications are very common here in theImperial Valley. In the afternoon we would do medical math, also veryhelpful and convenient for our clinical rotations. Much of the hospital’sstaff members were very impressed with ourskills that we had learned from the academy. The second week was only three days mostlyregarding writing our personal statements forcollege applications. I could honestly say thatmany helpful steps and suggestions weregiven. We also did our CPR certification andalso did some financial studies. FACES for theFuture has really been an awesome experience
from the academy to the clinical rotations.FACES is a wonderful opportunity and I onlysee this program get bigger and better thanks tothe wonderful team.

My experience at the academy was awesome, I think it was thebest week of my life. I learned about pharmacy technician mathwhich was new for me. I thought it would be hard but surpris-ingly I was wrong it was a lot easier than people think. I like Mrs.Cavazos she is an awesome teacher, during the week of scienceand math she help us to make the week fun and easier. I reallylike the way she teaches if I could take her class I would do it tolearn about pharmacy. I really appreciate her time with us toteach us.
