IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Friday, December 8 Holy Day of Obligation

Mass in the Shrine Church at 12:15 pm

Prayer on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception from Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers:

“Father, the image of the Virgin is found in Your Church. Mary had a faith that Your Spirit prepared and a love that never knew sin, for You kept her sinless from the first moment of her conception. Trace in our actions the lines of her love, in our hearts her readiness of faith. Prepare once again a world for Your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.”

DEAR GUESTS & VISITORS

As we enter the Advent and Christmas season, we thank those whose ongoing support and generosity assist us in maintaining the life of the Shrine. To further our efforts in making capital improvements around the facilities such as an upgrade to our church audio system and the renovation of our lower Hall, your financial contributions go a long way toward meeting these goals. Your donations are greatly appreciated.

The Capuchins

ASSISI PARDON PORZIUNCULA PARDON is always available under the conditions the Catholic Church has stipulated.

The conditions for receiving the Porziuncula Pardon are: To receive the Porziuncula Indulgence, one must receive sacramental absolution and receive Holy Communion at Mass. Additionally, one must visit a church where one prays at least the Creed and an Our Father for the intentions of the Pope. Additionally, one must be completely free of any attachment to sin; if this condition is not met, the indulgence is partial rather then plenary. At the National Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi, the Pardon of Assisi may be received on October 4th, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi (in the Shrine Church); on any two days of one’s own choosing during the year (one day in the Church and one day in the Porziuncula Nuova); and as often as one makes a formal pilgrimage as part of a group to the Shrine Church or to the Porziuncula Nuova. (One may receive a plenary indulgence only once a day and it may be applied to oneself or to the soul of one of the faithfully departed.)

Reflections on the Wisdom from St. Francis

by Fr. Bobby

“We thank You, for Your Son Himself will come again in the glory of His majesty.” Earlier Rule, XXIII.4

St. Francis of Assisi lived in a time when many

people were afraid the world would end soon. This

was never his concern, not because he didn’t believe

Jesus would come again, but because he listened to the

words of the gospel, “You know neither the day nor

the hour.” What this meant for Francis was that each

of us has to be ready at every moment, every day,

every hour. He would often say, “Let us begin again.”

Life for him each day was a gift, not to be taken for

granted, but used to grow in love of God and others.

Each day, Francis learned to focus on the great grace

of having another opportunity to praise the Lord and

do good for others. That is what Advent is all about:

remembering the great gift God gives us each day.
