Views from Fr. Larry Pichard, Pastor

Next Sunday we celebrate the wonderful feast of

Christ the King. Wishing to conclude our liturgical year, this feast is the climax and the pinnacle of a whole year’s celebration. The liturgical year goes out with a bang, a super high note. Then on the following Sunday, November 30, we begin the new liturgical year with the First Sunday of Advent.

Also on the 16th of November our special collection

will be for the Campaign of Human Development. Started by the U.S. Bishops in 1969, the philosophy of this campaign was not to have some bureaucracy decide how the poor should be helped, but to ask the poor to decide what kind of programs they themselves needed to lift themselves out of poverty. So, various self-help programs designed by the poor are funded on the national level and even on our own diocesan level. “Charity that leaves the poor person as he is, is not sufficient. True mercy, the mercy God gives to us and teaches us, demands justice, it demands that the poor find the way to be poor no longer.” Pope Francis, Address to Jesuit Refugee Services. Your generosity will be multiplied many times over!

Just to let you know about something interesting, at our 1:15 Mass three times during the school year, children between the ages of 6-10 help with the Mass. They read the Scripture passages; in fact, during our first Mass on September 28, a six year old girl shocked everybody when she read the passage with such feeling and emotion and power that many believed that she read better than any adult has ever done! Children also process in before the priest, sit together up front, read the Prayer of the Faithful, present the bread and wine and some even serve as ushers. We are very proud of them as they offer their young talents to the Lord. Their next Mass will be next Sunday on the Feast of Christ the King.

HEARING LOSS MINISTRY

“My hearing has degenerating for 4 or 5 years. Because I heard negative experiences with hearing aids, I put off getting one. For 2 years or so, I have been unable to understand what was said at Mass. To appease my family, and to hear the Mass, I obtained hearing aids. As the new church was built, I was told to expect an advanced system for hearing directly from the microphones on the altar. Now, true to the promise, I hear the entire Mass. When I first used it, I turned to my companion and said “WOW!” With this system, I now hear every word at Mass with no background noise. I feel like my ability to hear has been restored. I am ever grateful to again fully participate in the Mass, and pray that others who have hearing difficulty will also participate.”
