The Mission of Historic Saint Joseph Catholic Church is to proclaim the good news of !
Jesus Christ confidently and completely. We do so in order to build a joyful and !
welcoming community of faith that reaches out enthusiastically to all through our !
ministries of word, worship and service.!
May 13th, 2018!
Are you someone’s mother? Are you a grandmother? Especially, are you an expectant
mother (I am thinking of special friends getting ready)? Happy Mother’s Day! Your
children are your story. Thank you! Today, you get prayers! ___________________________________________!

May is the month when most priests ordained to serve the Church of Chicago celebrate the
anniversaries of their ordinations. This week, two of the St. Joseph Parish priests mark
another year at the altar. This Thursday, Father Robeth Molina Torres will celebrate his
10th anniversary as a priest. On Friday, Father Matt Bozovsky will give thanks for five
years as a priest. All at St. Joseph pray for them and for an increase in vocations to the
priesthood in Chicago and to all religious life.
________________________________________
Next Saturday, May 19, nine men will be ordained priests for the Archdiocese of Chicago at a Mass celebrated by
Cardinal Cupich at Holy Name Cathedral. The new priests will serve the Church in Cook and Lake Counties.
Sometime next Saturday, please pray for Father Misabet Garcia Gil; Father Agustin Garza Candanosa; Father
Robinson Ortiz Hernandez; Father Charles Plovanich; Father Lukasz Pyka; Father Jesus Romero Galan; Father
Christian Shiu; and Father Jesus Emanuel Torres Fuentes. “What shall I return to the Lord for all the good He has
done for me. I will take up the cup of salvation and call upon the Name of the Lord.”

I really enjoyed all the positive comments from parishioners last weekend when they saw that the painters’
scaffolding had been removed and that the beautiful painting job could be appreciated. It was great to see our
magnificent church in its tall splendor looking as bright as it ever has looked. The painting is completed. The
electrical wiring is done. The chandeliers have been cleaned for the first time in decades with new lighting inside
all of them. The windows, the altar, the tabernacle, and the statues all were cleaned. The best news is that the
work is not completed. New lighting that will make the features of those in the sanctuary has yet to be installed.
The highlighting of the Stations still is on the horizon. Also, the promised light that will illuminate the rose
window and make it brilliantly visible on the corner of Ridge and Lake is yet to be accomplished. The goal for the
finished design is this coming fall. For now, we all are pleased to resume our prayers in the prettiest Church on
the North Shore. We also look ahead to more that will make St. Joseph even better. Thanks go to all who
supported the TO TEACH W HO CHRIST IS capital campaign that allowed the work to be accomplished. If you
have yet to follow-up on your pledged contribution, please fulfill your promise as soon as you can. Finally, let’s
all continue to regularly support our famous and great parish.

Today is the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord into Heaven. This is the punctuation mark on the Easter season.
Jesus, with the Apostles witnessing, was taken up into Heaven. Where is Heaven? That answer is beyond me.
Still, that is where Jesus is. He sits as Judge of us all. Each will be judged by Jesus both at the end of our lives
and at the end of time. Some find the title of “Judge” uncomfortable in relation to Jesus. They prefer “Jesus, Our
Brother” or “Jesus, Our Friend.” Those titles may be OK; but Jesus certainly will be our Judge. You will see
Him. He will see you. At that moment, truth will prevail. Nothing will be hidden; nothing more will be worth
explaining. Jesus has a place. Jesus, our Judge, sits at the right hand of Our Father. On this Feast of the
Ascension, I pray that, when I am called to Judgment, I can look Jesus in the eyes. Jesus, our Judge, have mercy
on our souls!
