continued report from Susan Lee

OUR SCHOOL REVIEWThis fortnight is our school review. All schools in Victoria take part in a collaborative and transparent process to help improve the learning outcomes in their schools, promote excellence across the curriculum and enhance the health and wellbeing of students. The review is an evidence-based process that will enable our school to develop direction for the next four years. Apart from examining school data, visiting classrooms, talking to students and teachers the review panel would like to hear the voices of our parent community. An open invitation is issued to share your impressions of how our school is going. Please come to the oval end of our north wing on Thursday 25th October at 9am to share your views with our reviewer Martin and our senior education leader Judy Maguire.

2019 CHRISTMAS CONCERTPlease keep the evening of Wednesday December 12th free for our annual concert. All the children will be performing on this night and it is a wonderful way to finish our school year. The children will commence their rehearsals in November. Our school borrows the same stage we used for our 21st birthday event and we will call for helpers closer to the event to erect it. Parents appreciate being able to see their child on a high stage but we do need help to put the stage up on the morning of the concert and then will disassembly later that evening. Your help will be very much appreciated.

TRAFFIC REMINDERSLaw enforcement officers are working around our area. Please be reminded it is an offence to stop/park/linger on the double yellow line outside our school on Point Cook Road. The 10 minute stopping zones are being monitored. ‘No Standing’ means no parking and no stopping, even to drop off children. $150

fines are being issued. Please also respect our neighbours by refraining from using horns to say ‘goodbye’ to your children. Shift workers in the homes around our school are grateful for quiet mornings. Thank you for your consideration. The drop off zone in Mintaro Way is a 2 minute linger time for dropping off or picking up your child after 3:10pm. Thanks to all the parents who have used this shared zone looking carefully for on-coming traffic while pulling away from the curb.

ALLERGIES A further reminder that we have a number of children across the school who suffer from life-threatening nut allergies. It is appreciated if lunch boxes are free of these foods. Teachers remind their classes not share food. We also have an increasing number of children who are allergic to dogs and cats. Thank you for not bringing your pet near the school in the interests of their health.

Have a great week ahead.Sue & Staff

Prep Fresh Market Incursion

The Prep students experienced a wonderful world of colour as they feasted on fresh produce during their Fresh Market Incursion last Wednesday. We chomped on capsicum, bananas, tomatoes, blood oranges, celery and pears. The yummy homemade avocado dip was a sure fire hit! The Market Fresh Schools Program explained where food is grown, how it is delivered to the wholesale market and then taken to the fruit and vegetable shop for us to buy and take home. Thanks to our awesome parents for your assistance.

Here is what we learnt about the fruits and vegetables we know and love…

Apples and pears should be put in the fridge. Jack R (Prep JG)

Eating fruit and vegetables help you grow. Aarshi (Prep PT)

Blood oranges don’t have real blood in them. Annan (Prep CS)

Inter - School Sports - Tennis

Last week the grade 6s participated in the divisional inter-school sports. There were 2 tennis teams, a boys and a girls team. Out of the 5 rounds, each of the rounds had singles and then doubles. The girls won 4 out of 5 games and got into the finals and but unfortunately lost. The boys also won 3 out of 5 and tied 1 game however the boys did not get into the finals.

The tennis teams did a great job, though unfortunately, neither team got into the next round. The tennis teams had fun playing tennis and getting the opportunity to play against other schools!

Divisional Sports

Well done to our sport teams who competed in divisional finals last week. We had the boys volleyball team on Tuesday, boys and girls tennis on Wednesday and boys & girls basketball on Thursday. In the boys basketball we played Williamstown, Sacred Heart and Stella Maris. We started slowly in each match and we levelled or were just up or down for the first half of the games. Then our team work and fitness started to kick in and we started to get on top. The results were as follows: v Williamstown 30-15, v Sacred Heart 45-26 and v Stella Maris 43-18. Well done boys and they will progress to the Regional finals TBA soon.

In the section, we played Williamstown and Sacred Heart as well and also Boardwalk. They were all very strong teams and although we lost by a bit to Williamstown (54-13) and Boardwalk (49-13), we had a good win against Sacred Heart (23-7), which the girls were very happy about. Their confidence improved throughout the day and were playing better as a team. Our boys volleyball team played against Lumen Christi, Williamstown & Sacred Heart. Against Lumen we lost 2-1, against Williamstown we lost 2-0 and it was same against Sacred Heart, however in both those matches the sets were a lot closer eg; 16-14.

Well done to all teams

Release 10 MacBook 1to1 Update (current parents from Year 2-5)

As you should all be aware by now, Seabrook Primary School is still taking orders for our bulk purchase of MacBook 1 to1 orders (due to take place in early November). To this point however, Apple has not yet released any information on the expected updated Education MacBook. We are still hopeful of an announcement before our bulk order is scheduled to take place, however can’t guarantee anything concrete until we hear from our certified education reseller. We also know that a number of parents are waiting until early next year to place their order because of this expected announcement. If parents choose to change or order their device early next year, this is totally acceptable, however as always, will be subject to an updated quote at time of placing your order. It is only orders for Christmas that we will be placing in early November that we are requiring soon. We will continue to notify parents of any changes (as soon as we hear from them and broadcast them through all the usual online digital channels as per usual.

Grade 1 swimming Just a reminder that swimming will be on this Monday 22nd October. We unfortunately had to cancel last week because of the accident on the Freeway and will now just run the four sessions, as the Preps commence straight away after the Grade 1’s finish. For those who have paid the full amount, refunds will be in the form of a credit (to be used for future excursion, fees). For those who hadn’t paid the balance yet, you can deduct $23 from the payment and fix up the new amount (Eg; owed balance of $92 now becomes $69 etc. de-pending on how much you owe). If you have any queries about this, please see Mrs. Golomb at the office.

We Need Your Help – Parent Helpers/Volunteers Needed

Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth School Banking program and to keep this program running we need your help. Parent helpers are needed to help count money and process reward requests. Currently School Banking is processed on Thursday morning at 9am for approximately one to two hours.
