Coming Together Safely

Please follow these guidelines to maintain a safe worship environment for all.

Wear a Mask. For the protection of the members of our community, face coverings are REQUIRED for all attendees, including children over the age of two.

Social Distance in Church. In order to maintain the proper social distance during Mass, some pews have been marked for no seating. When capacity has been reached in the church, additional seating will be available in the Courtyard for those Masses that are live-streamed.

Please sing in your heart, as no congregational singing is recommended.

When receiving Communion please maintain physical distance when coming forward to receive communion

and keep your mask on until you have responded ‘Amen’.

Contact Us. Please contact the parish office if you have any questions regarding our plans to come together safely. We must be vigilant in protecting those most vulnerable. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID exists anywhere people are present. We have undertaken precautionary cleaning, disinfecting, and implemented social distancing guide-lines to help reduce the risk of exposure. Please contact the parish office if you have been diagnosed with CODIV-19 and have recently had close contact with others at St. Odilia.

Welcome Fr. Erich Rutten!

As Fr. Rask mentioned at Mass last weekend, the Archbishop has appointed a new pastor for the Catholic Community of St. Odilia, effective July 1.

Fr. Erich Rutten comes to us from the Church of Saint Peter Claver in St. Paul where he has served as pastor since 2016. Prior to that, he served for nine years as the Director of Campus Ministry for the University of St. Thomas. He has also served as the parochial vicar at the Cathedral of St.

Paul, and Our Lady of Grace in Edina. He is the Chair of the Archdiocesan Commission on Ecumenism and Interreli-gious Affairs, a member of the Social Concerns Committee of the Minnesota Catholic Conference, and an adjunct spiritual director at Saint John Vianney Seminary.

Fr. Rutten holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Illinois-Champaign-Urbana; a Master of Arts in Systematic Theology from St. John’s University; and a Master of Divinity from the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity. Fr. Rutten served as an adjunct faculty member of both the Theology and Justice and Peace Studies Departments of the University of St. Thomas.

Fr. Rutten is originally from Joliet, Illinois but his mother and father were both born and raised in central Minneso-ta. Much of his extended family is here. He moved to Minnesota in 1991 and has lived in the Twin Cities since 1993. He has four sisters, two brothers, and 11 nieces and nephews.

Fr. Rutten enjoys movies and music. He loves doing research on the family genealogy. His influences include Saint Pope John Paul II, Bishop Robert Barron, the Institute for Priestly Formation, N.T. Wright, Josef Ratzinger, Brant Pietre, and many more.

Fr. Rutten is an energetic minister with a passion for evangelization and justice. He is always ready to offer a listening ear and a helping hand. As a priest, Fr. Rutten hopes to “communicate God’s love to the people, bring reconciliation and peace, and be a guide in facing the challenges of our time.”

“I realized I grew up and lived in a ‘white’ world and even after working with people of color in my working years, my knowledge of the history of slavery and its effects was very limited. This program gave me a better under-standing of the long term effects of slavery and some ideas how to make changes.” ~Participant in St. Odilia Faith and Racial Healing program Winter 2021

Join the women of WINE (in-person) for a fabulous evening with award-winning Catholic author and Jazz singer Liz Kelly, as she brings us back in time for a deeper look at love. The 1920s ushered in drastic social, cultural, and artistic changes. Though one hundred years have passed, the action of a leading lady of that era echoes a powerful message for women of the 2020s. The evening also includes light appetizers, sweets and treats, a little shopping, and a few surprises!

©LPi

MAY GREEN OUTREACH ENVELOPE: Pastoral Care Ministry By John Jacobs

The more one gets to know about St. Odilia, the more one sees that it is a friendly and caring community. One ministry that exemplifies this in many wonderful ways is the Pastoral Care Ministry. This ministry reaches out to help people when they can most use that help — for example when a loved one dies. At other times someone might need a caring person to listen to them. A complete listing of the numerous activities of this ministry can be found on the St. Odilia web site, but for now, here are just a few of the ways the Pastoral Care Ministry provides services to those in need:

Communion Outreach: In-home distribution of Communion is available for those unable to attend weekend liturgies due to illness or disability. Communion is provided to 8 different facilities such as assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Befriender Ministry: Compassionate and well-trained volunteers are available to listen in a caring way to people in all kinds of difficult or transitional situations.

Bereavement Ministry: Volunteers follow up with family members of people who have died. Cards are sent out, one-to-one support is offered, general questions are answered, and help is provided in finding resources needed at this difficult time.

This ministry thrives due to the prayers and active participation of our parish volunteers. We are also blessed to have the assistance of Sister Carol Anne, who has been doing amazing and tireless work during the pandemic. She has been calling and reaching out to people to offer help and support during these difficult times. If you would like to support the work of the Pastoral Care Ministry, please consider a contribution with the May Green Envelope.
