While it is simple and natural to do these things at Christmas, I wonder, do we really keep Christmas in our hearts throughout the year? When is giving really im- portant and when do we give? One way is to be a registered organ donor. To be a true Elk and a true volunteer, you give of yourself, every day, year round. You do this by showing up and giving your most valuable resource, your time. It is always important to remember that with the Elks, charity always comes first. So during this Christmas season, I ask all members to be kind to one another, embrace the holiday spirit, spread love to your fellow man and consider being a volunteer in one of our many charitable projects. The Order of Elks has set aside the first Sunday in December for our Annual Memorial Service to remember those we have lost over the past year. This service is open to everyone and starts at 11 AM, Sunday December 1st in the Lodge room with a light buffet to follow. Our Christmas programs are in full swing. Please continue to bring in food for the Christmas baskets. These will be packed and delivered later this month. Finally, please join us Christmas Day, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm for a potluck in the Lodge along with an ER Wassail. We will have volunteer bartenders and plenty of Christmas cheer. WAPITI WIND December 2019

Greetings Members All,

December is the time for giving, enjoying family and spreading good cheer. While it is simple and natural to do these things at Christmas, I wonder, do we really keep Christmas in our hearts throughout the year? When is giving really im-portant and when do we give? One way is to be a registered organ donor. To be a true Elk and a true volunteer, you give of yourself, every day,

It is always important to remember that with the Elks, charity always comes first. So during this Christmas season, I ask all members to be kind to one another, embrace the holiday spirit, spread love to your fellow man and consider being a volunteer in one of our many charitable projects.

London Bridge Days Parade

Several Lodge Members participated in the London Bridge Days Parade. Many rode on the float while several Elkettes distributed bracelets to attendees.

Veterans Day Parade

It was with great pride that several Veterans rode on our float during the Veterans Day Parade. The Elkettes were also on hand passing out bracelets. After the parade, Veterans were treated to free hot dogs and hamburgers at the Lodge.

The PER Association provided hot dogs, chips and ice cold water to hundreds of walkers in the annual Movin’ For Memory Walk held to bring awareness of the devastating effects of De-mentia and Alzheimer's Dis-ease. The proceeds from the walk go to further research in preventing and halting these horrible diseases. The Lodge, through a donation from the PERs, is a Plati-num sponsor giving us the privilege of leading the walk.

Movin’ for

Memory

The Monday Night Dancers donated $250.00 to H.A.V.E.N.’s Food for Kids program which helps feed children in need on weekends.

POW/MIA REMEMBRANCE TABLE

Thank You Bill & Debbie Horton

You have all noticed our POW/MIA Table located in the dining area. Leading Knight Bill Horton and his lady Debbie spent many hours researching different ways to set up this remembrance table and its placement in our Lodge was long overdue. They did a great job and we deeply appreciate their efforts.

This Table set for one is small - Symbolizing the frailty of one prisoner alone against his oppressors. Remember!

The Tablecloth is white - Symbolizing the purity of their inten-tions to respond to their country's call to arms. Remember!

The single Red Rose displayed in a vase reminds us of the fami-lies and loved ones of our comrades-in-arms who keep the faith awaiting their return. Remember!

The Red Ribbon tied so prominently on the vase is reminiscent of the red ribbon worn upon the lapel and breasts of thousands who bear witness to their unyielding determination to demand a proper accounting of our missing. Remember!

The Candle, the candle is lit - Symbolizing the upward reach of their unconquerable spirit. Remember!

A Slice of Lemon is on the bread plate to remind us of their bitter fate. Remember!

There is Salt upon the bread plate - Symbolic of the families tears as they wait. Remember!

The Glass is inverted - They cannot toast with us this night. Re-member!

The Chair - The chair is empty. They are not here. Remember!

Remember! - All of you who served with them and called them comrades, who depended upon their might and aid, and relied upon them, for surely, they have not forsaken you. Remember!

Remember! - Until the day they come home, Remember!

Happy December

With Christmas time in full swing we need to em-brace the gift of giving. Keep those who are more in need and not as fortunate in mind when you are around town. Pay it forward if you can and give everyone at least a smile. Volunteering to help with Christmas food baskets is a great way to give back. Drop some coats you don’t need into the coat bin in the lobby at the Elks or food in the food

bin. You can give a gift for a child too.

See’s candy is on sale in the lobby until we run out!! Usually during dinner hours.

The fashion show was also a great success. A big thank you to all the models and our Ushers Jim Travis and Gary Parsons. Our MC Hank Thonnard was fabulous as always and all three sported tuxedoes.

Our Elvis concert proceeds helped us give to our Lodge and the Lake Havasu City Ballet. I wish you could have all seen the look on Jeanne Fernandos face when I presented and announced that we were giving the Ballet $1000. It was priceless and I think we both had tears in our eyes. They provide low cost dance classes with upscale teachers to children in our community. This money will help children whose families are not as fortunate send their child to dance classes. This can impact a child’s future. We should feel good about that. The concert raised enough money to give some to our Elks building fund and still have some to put into our general funds for other things. I would like to thank all the Elks and friends that purchased tickets to both shows. It was a great success with two sold out shows.

Thank you to all that came out to walk behind our float in the London days parade and the Veterans day parade. We handed out 2000 wristlets between the two parades.

The Christmas dinner dance is one of our most fun events. Tick-ets are $18 and on sale in the office until December 11th. If you are a past president or a new Elkette as of December 2018 you get a free ticket. We have Kid and Nic this year for our enter-tainment. Dinner is a plated Turkey dinner with all the fixings, and don’t you know it, for dessert, Apple Pie.

Our craft fair as usual was a great success with many shop-pers. Thank you to all that brought in baked items and other vol-unteers during the event. A big thank you to Susan Seales for chairing the event. This takes a lot of coordination and many email and phone hours. She does a great job.

We are in search of new board members for the 2020-2021 year. If you would like to run for a position on the board, please let me know. President, Vice president, 2nd vice president (membership), treasurer and secretary are all open. Our current Vice president is running for president, but anyone can apply.

52 club sales are coming along. If everyone just buys one, we will be done. Selling 300 tickets raises us $7800 to give back to our Elks and our community.

Thank you to all that bring your friends into our Elkettes. The more Elkettes we have the more volunteers and support for the many events we have.

Respectfully submitted, Eva D. Fox Elkette President 2018-2019 916-417-3176 or [email protected]

FISHING CLUB NEWS

By now you have probably had your fill of turkey and Thanksgiving is only a memory. Hopefully everybody had a nice day with family and friends. We all do have much to be thankful for, especially living in a paradise like Havasu.

Now it’s time to think about Christmas. Our Christmas party is December 8th and Slade Rivers will be enter-taining us with his music. No doubt this will be a fun evening with good food, music and friends.

Here’s our camping schedule for January through May 2020.

Quartsite will be in January and this is a no-host campout. We camp in the desert and it is dry camping. Needle Mountain will be another dry camping event February 14th through the 16th hosted by Don & Shirlee Lower. We are looking at Barstow sometime in March. Also in March Joe Abela & Kathy Henrik-

sen will host the AVI. Those dates are March 6th through the 8th. Tri-State will be in Tucson April 15th thru the 18th. This annual event will be coordinated by Hank Thonnard. Our last one for the year will be in Wickenburg hosted by Bob & Barb Volk and Rod & Debbie Herd.

Welcome to our new members Bob Carleton & Jo Black, Cal Bowman & Eileen Vogler, Charles & Susan Guibord, Kevin & Connie Hoppe, Dennis Shaha and Ron & Pat Allen who have rejoined.

Don’t forget we won’t have a meeting in December. This will be replaced with our Christmas party December 8th. I wish every-one a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Clothe A Child Update

Greetings All,

Kmart will be closing but not until after the first of the year. Our Clothe A Child program will occur, as usual, this year at Kmart.

Shopper Volunteers: The event is scheduled for December 8th at 9:00am sharp at the local Kmart. All volunteer shoppers will check in outside. There you will receive your shopping instructions and then continue inside where you will get your shopper. Please arrive at your set check in time of 8:30 or 8:45.

Gift Buying Volunteers: By now, I should have all gifts. Please turn in any outstanding gifts to the office ASAP.

I want to express my gratitude to the Clothe A Child Committee who helped with organization this year. My team is awe-some! I wish also to thank the entire Elk’s community and especially the Elk’s clubs. Everyone has been generous with their time and money and I want you to know you are all making a huge difference in these deserving kid’s lives. Because of all of you, the kids will go back to school in style wearing a new smile. Merry Christmas, Debbie Herd Clothe A Child Chair
