Leupold Introduces CM-R2 Reticle for Maximum Flexibility
with Close and Mid-Range Targets
Leupold Close Quarters/Tactical (CQ/T) Riflescopes with CM-R2 Reticle
Leupold Tactical Optics
BEAVERTON, Ore. –-(Ammoland.com)- Leupold’s Tactical Optics
Division introduces the CM-R2 reticle, which allows tactical and
competitive shooters to quickly and accurately estimate range and
engage targets.
By combining the ranging ability of Leupold’s Special Purpose Reticle
(SPR) with the quick acquisition of the Leupold Circle Dot reticle, the
CM-R2 provides the flexibility necessary on the modern battlefield or 3-
gun course. The CM-R2 preserves the instinctive fire capabilities of the
Circle Dot for the short-range, low magnification needs of the 3-gun
competitor or CQB warfighter.
The CM-R2 is designed to allow the shooter to focus more attention on
the target and less attention on the reticle. A boldly illuminated 0.5 MOA
dot surrounded by a 5.0 MOA semi-circle enhance the shooter’s focus
and combine precision with speed when the target is up close and
personal. Hash marks on the horizontal stadia are calibrated for leading
moving targets at 5, 10 and 15 mph, respectively. Vertical tic marks allow
users to estimate ranges based on 18” wide targets at increasing ranges,
while also providing precise holdover points for targets between 300 and
900 meters.
“The CM-R2 reticle makes our battlefield-proven Mark 4
MR/T and CQ/T line of riflescopes even more versatile,” said
Kevin Trepa, Leupold’s vice president of tactical sales and
marketing. “American warfighters and civilian shooting
enthusiasts alike will enjoy the fast-ranging capabilities of
this reticle.”
For optimum results, riflescopes with the CM-R2 reticle should be
zeroed at 200 yards using M855 5.56mm NATO/.223 Remington
ammunition producing a muzzle velocity of 2,810 fps with 62 grain FMJ
bullets.
The CM-R2 is available in Leupold Mid Range/Tactical (MR/T) and
Close Quarters/Tactical (CQ/T) riflescopes. Leupold has offered
precision optics for tactical applications since the 1983 introduction of
Ultra riflescopes, which were designed to excel under the most extreme
battlefield conditions. Today, more long-range Leupold Tactical Optics
are in service with the U.S. military than any other brand. For more
information on Leupold Tactical Optics, go to www.leupold.com or call 1-

Leupold & Stevens, Inc., the preeminent American-owned and -operated

Steyr Donates Commemorative Scout Rifle To The Gunsite
Alumni Shoot To Benefit Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation
Steyr Arms Jeff Cooper Scout Hunting Rifle
Steyr Arms
TRUSSVILLE, Alabama --(Ammoland.com)- Steyr Arms has
announced that it will donate a limited edition Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle
Commemorative Package to the annual Gunsite Alumni Shoot (GAS
Match), which will be held Oct. 2 at the Gunsite Academy in Paulden,
AZ.
The rifle will be used by competitors in the Scout Rifle Side Match and
will be awarded to the shooter with the highest score in the Scout match.
All proceeds from the Scout Rifle Side Match will be donated to the Jeff
Cooper Legacy Foundation.
The GAS Match was created in 1984 by legendary small-arms expert,
author and founder of what would later become the Gunsite Academy,
Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Dean “Jeff” Cooper (1920-2006). “A social
event only slightly interrupted by gunfire,” the GAS Match was designed
by Cooper to be a practical and realistic competitive course of fire. The
only prerequisite to compete in the GAS Match is to have attended one of
Gunsite’s courses lasting three or more days. The match is limited to the
first 125 Gunsite alumni who apply.
Cooper worked with Steyr Arms through much of the 1990s to create his
signature rifle, the Steyr Scout. With a Steyr SBS action, a lightweight
cold-hammer-forged barrel chambered in .308 Win., an integral bipod,
back-up iron sights, an extra magazine held beneath the butt of the
polymer stock, and paired to a forward-mounted long-eye-relief scope,
Cooper’s Scout was heralded as the ideal general-purpose rifle
chambered in the ideal general-purpose caliber.
“This year at the GAS Match, the Steyr Scout comes ‘home’ to
Gunsite,” said Jane Anne Shimizu, Gunsite Academy director
of marketing. “Much of the Scout’s design criteria was
hammered out right here at Gunsite, and it was through his
relationship with Steyr that his ultimate rifle was created.
Steyr Arms’ gracious donation of a complete Scout rifle with
all the accessories and adorned with the Colonel’s
logo—exactly as the very early rifles came—is a wonderful
addition to this match.”
The Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle Commemorative Package, which recently
became available to customers, is chambered in .308 Win., and it sets in
the original “Scout Gray” stock highlighted by the “JC” crest-of arms. A
2.5X 28mm Leupold Scout scope is attached to the integral top rail via
Steyr mounts. An attached Galco Ching Sling is also inscribed with the
“JC” crest, as is the Boyt TAC541 soft case and the Boyt H44 hard case.
The latter also boasts the Steyr Arms logo. To finish off the package, a
hardbound copy of Cooper’s Art Of The Rifle is also included. The
package has an MSRP of $2,975.
“I think its exceptionally fitting that we’re donating the rifle
that Col. Cooper designed, in the very package that he
prescribed, to his signature shooting match in the year that
we’ve reintroduced it to the public,” said Scott O’Brien, CEO
of Steyr Arms. “We’re honored that it will ultimately benefit
law enforcement and help to preserve Cooper’s work through
the Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation.”

Nebraska Grouse HuntingSeason Begins Sept. 18SEP 09, 2010 07:01P.M.
Nebraska Grouse Hunting Season Begins Sept. 18
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission
LINCOLN, Neb. --(Ammoland.com)- Good news for Nebraska grouse
hunters this fall. The hunting season for this upland game species will be
a month longer than in past years.
Grouse hunting season opens in Nebraska on Sept. 18 and runs through
Jan. 31, 2011. This aligns the season with the close of pheasant and quail
seasons and allows more opportunities for late-season mixed bag
hunting of all three species.
Grouse may be hunted statewide, but a free special permit is required for
hunting east of U.S. Highway 81 (east zone).
Approximately 90 special permits remain for hunting in the east zone.
They are limited to one per hunter and available on a first-come, first-
served basis. To request a special permit, call Game and Parks at (402)
471-5597, visit the Lincoln headquarters, or send a postcard to: Nebraska
Game and Parks Commission, Attn: Grouse Permits, P.O. Box 30370,
Lincoln, NE 68503.
The postcard must include the following: name, address, date of birth,
telephone number, and 2010 hunting permit number or lifetime hunting
permit number. Residents ages 12 to 15 must submit a hunter education
number. Those not required to purchase a hunting permit must provide
documentation of such exemption.
The daily bag and possession limits in the east zone are three birds. The
daily bag and possession limits west of U.S. 81 (west zone) are three and
12, respectively.
A Nebraska hunting permit and habitat stamp are required of all grouse
hunters in the state, except residents younger than 16 years.
Nebraska hunting permits and stamps may be purchased at Game and
Parks offices and OutdoorNebraska.org.

LINCOLN, Neb. --(Ammoland.com)- Fall turkey season opens Sept. 15
across Nebraska, and hunters of all ages have the opportunity to pursue
the abundant gobblers.
Getting new hunters into the field could be even easier this year,
however, as reduced-price permits are available for youth.

Fall turkey permits are $24 for residents, $91 for nonresidents and $6
for youth younger than 16 years (residents and nonresidents), including
issuing fee. The reduced-price youth permits were a big success during
the spring turkey season, when youth permit sales more than doubled
from the previous spring.
Adult and youth hunters may shoot turkeys through Dec. 31 with either
archery equipment or shotgun. A fall turkey or youth fall turkey permit
allows the take of two turkeys with either archery equipment or shotgun.
Permits are unlimited in number, but no hunter may have more than two
fall turkey permits.
The bag limit is two turkeys per permit.
Turkey hunters are required to wear at least 400 square inches of hunter
orange on their head, chest and back when hunting during the November
firearm deer season, which is Nov. 13-21.

The Threat of Animal RightsLawyersSEP 09, 2010 05:28P.M.
The Threat of Animal Rights Lawyers
By Greg R. Lawson, USSA Director of Communications
U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance
Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance was
first formed back at the end of the 1970s to fight the anti-hunting, animal
rights movement.
In fact, we are really the only group in the country whose sole mission is
to confront them and beat them. This is why we think it is so important
to keep America’s sportsmen aware of what the animal rights movement
really represents and the kind of world they would establish if they ever
had the power to do it.
With that in mind, I was struck by this article I came across while
rummaging around through some of my favorite websites the other
night. I was struck by how scary the picture it portrays is of what the
animal rights movement is really attempting to do.
Quoting from the article,
“Some animal protection activists are pushing for laws that would extend
rights and protections to animals that have been, up to now, reserved for
humans.”
” Animals are closer to us than an inanimate object that we use as a tool
for everyday living,” says Adam P. Karp, an attorney in Bellingham,
Wash., who devotes his practice to cases involving animals. ” The law
should recognize animals as legal persons with the same access to
justice.”
Here’s another section,
“Animal protection lawyers, however, take issue with the fact that the
law still classifies animals solely as property-regardless of their
relationship with humans-and only allows owners to recover a loss based
on market value.”
First off, it should be pointed out that this article is featured on the
website of the American Bar Association’s Journal. Yes, the American
Bar Association (ABA) as in the group that by its own admission is,
“the largest voluntary professional association in the world. With more
than 400,000 members, the ABA provides law school accreditation,
continuing legal education, information about the law, programs to
assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the
legal system for the public.”
This means that these ideas, while maybe not yet commonplace, are
becoming increasingly accepted by professionals across the country.
As you hopefully recall, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance was leading the
charge of fighting the appointment of Cass Sunstein to the position of
President Obama’s “Regulatory Czar” last year and we came very close
to blocking it. We did that because, among other things, Sunstein had
written approvingly of the possibility of giving animals legal rights.
Clearly, he is by no means alone in entertaining the idea.
That means that the seemingly absurd idea that animals
should be treated legally the same as humans is no longer a
joking matter. It’s being pushed hard enough that it is
getting a serious look by serious people.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize where all of this could very
easily head if we turn a blind eye.
If an animal has legal rights comparable to those of a human, how can
they ever be hunted? How can an angler ever catch a fish? Wouldn’t
both be pretty obvious violations of their “legal rights?”
Think it can’t happen? Well, it probably won’t… for awhile, but the fact
that the ABA is giving the issue play means that in the future, you never
really know.
That’s why the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance needs your help. We need to be
able to make sure we have the resources necessary to shine a bright
spotlight on these ideas so that America doesn’t wake up one day and
realize their pet could sue them tomorrow.

USSAF and Others Continue Defending Pro-Sportsman Court
Decision
Oral Arguments Heard in Maine Trapping Case Appeal.
U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance
Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance
Foundation (USSAF) completed oral arguments during a legal hearing in
the U.S. Court of Appeals on behalf of Maine trappers.
The long-standing case prompting the hearing will have a far reaching
impact by establishing whether anti-hunting groups seeking to
manipulate the Endangered Species Act (ESA) will be able to block
hunting and trapping seasons across the nation.
“This is the latest in a long line of steps taken by the USSAF
and our partners to protect not only trappers in Maine, but
sportsmen nationwide,” said Rob Sexton, USSAF vice
president for government affairs while referring to the oral
arguments made on September 8.
“If the anti-hunters win, they will use this example in court
room after court room across the nation to deny trapping and
hunting everywhere.”
In November of 2009, Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. of Maine’s Federal
District Court denied the injunction sought by Animal Welfare Institute
and the Wildlife Alliance of Maine to stop the state’s trapping season.
The groups had originally filed suit against the Maine Department of
Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in 2008, arguing that that Maine’s
trapping regulations provided insufficient protection for the Canada
lynx, a species listed as threatened under the ESA, and thus required the
season to be stopped.
The USSAF, along with the Maine Trappers’ Association, Fur Takers of
America, National Trappers’ Association, and several individual
sportsmen, argued that the antis must show that Maine’s trapping
practices were a threat to the Canada lynx population.
The opinion of Judge Woodcock closely followed the arguments made by
the USSAF and others by requiring that plaintiffs looking for an
injunction to shut down a trapping (or hunting or fishing) season prove
not only the incidental take of ESA-protected species, but also
“irreparable harm” to the lynx population. Judge Woodcock concluded
that the take of individual members of a reasonably numerous protected
species does not necessarily meet the requirement of irreparable harm.
He also indicated that the take of lynx occurring in Maine foothold traps,
typically catch-and-release incidents, did not constitute irreparable harm
in this case. Consequently, Judge Woodcock declined the injunction and
the trapping season was able to take place.
This decision would make it difficult for antis to shut down hunting and
trapping in other states based upon the incidental take of a single animal
that falls under ESA protection. The precedent is so important that the
antis filed an appeal in December, 2009 seeking to reverse the decision.
This prompted the USSAF and others to file a new set of legal briefs in
order to defend the hard fought victory.
According to Sexton, “We continue to feel confident in our
case and will keep pressing ahead to be sure the ESA is not
hijacked by those that want to shut down practically all
sportsmen activities.”

Action Target Announces Their Involvement In The Lawsuit
Over Chicago Gun Range Prohibition
Action Target
Provo, Utah --(Ammoland.com)- ACTION TARGET, on August 16,
2010, joined the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) in filing a
lawsuit in federal court against the City of Chicago’s new gun ordinance.
The lawsuit asserts that the city is depriving its residents of their right to
keep and bear arms by banning public gun ranges while at the same time
requiring range training for handgun owners.
Randy Graham, Vice President of ACTION TARGET, said,
“We believe that citizens have a constitutional right to use
and train with firearms in a safe and controlled environment.
As a leader in the firearms training industry, Action Target is
committed to standing up for these rights.”
Why has Action target joined the Lawsuit?
ACTION TARGET has a long history of supporting Law Enforcement in
obtaining the critical training necessary to safely use their firearms in the
defense of the public and themselves.
Our participation in challenging the City of Chicago
prohibition on gun ranges is driven by the following positions:
• As leaders in the firearms training industry, ACTION TARGET has
an obligation to stand up for the constitutional rights of citizens to
keep and bear arms.
• ACTION TARGET supports the civilian ownership of firearms and
promotes the safe use of those firearms through proper training in
a secure and controlled environment such as a gun range.
• It is Action Target’s experience that a majority of law enforcement
officers support the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding
citizens. We stand with these officers.

Diizche Safari Adventures
LINCOLN, CA --(Ammoland.com)- Diizche Safari Adventures is proud
to announce they just released a new book on September 7, 2010 that
will be of interest to big-game hunters.
Coastal Black Bear Hunting: Prince of Wales Island, Alaska is
intended for those planning a big- game hunting trip, particularly those
planning a self- guided black bear hunting trip to Alaska.
This book guides the readers through planning, preparing for, and
carrying out a self-guided black bear hunt on Prince of Wales Island,
Alaska. Much of the information, of course, would be relevant to other
big-game hunts as well. The wealth of information provided in the body
of the book is nicely supplemented by easy-to-use appendices and a
bibliography. You will learn all aspects of executing your hunt from pre-
planning until you return home.
The book, written by Shawn Christopher Joyce, has been well received by
some familiar names in the business, including Massad Ayoob, Craig
Boddington, and Mark Sullivan.
This is some of what they have to say:
“A tour de force that not only makes you wish you were there
with him, but makes you feel as if you are. His book isn’t just
about how to ruin a bruin…it’s the consumer’s guide to a hunt
of a lifetime that you’ll always be proud of having arranged
and carried out yourself.” Massad Ayoob Internationally
Renowned Author, Firearms and Self-Defense Expert
“Bear hunting has been one of my favorite North American
hunts for more than 40 years now. Shawn Joyce’s book is
accurate and thorough, packed with great tips that will help
any bear hunter–or any do- it-yourself hunter–anywhere. As
for Prince of Wales Island, well, that’s one of the places I
haven’t yet had a chance to hunt. After reading his book, I am
now fully prepared!” Craig Boddington Executive Field Editor
InterMedia Outdoors
“Hunting the great bears of Alaska is something I have
personally had the privilege to enjoy… Shawn Joyce`s book,
Coastal Black Bear Hunting, is a must read… It was written
by a hunter—for a hunter. Shawn`s book is clear and concise.
This book takes you through the entire process, step by step,
and in a way that captures the hunter spirit in each of us and
makes us want to be the Big Bwana. Whether you are an
experienced hunter or a novice, you will come away with
many useful tips. Mark Sullivan Owner of Nitro Express
Safaris–Tanzania Professional Hunter, Internationally
Renowned Author
For many, the idea of hunting dangerous game in Alaska is a dream they
hope to someday experience. Self-guided hunts are not just for hunters
interested in saving money. Hunts of this nature are also for those
seeking adventure, self-reliance, flexibility, and affirmation of their
capabilities. Those who can afford to hunt with a guide often prefer to
challenge themselves and accomplish the hunt on their own. Some of
this information will also prove to be helpful to those who may prefer to
utilize a guide. This book has information that will be useful to both rifle
and archery hunters.
This is only available in trade hardcover edition US $29.95-Shipping is
included in the contiguous United States. The book is autographed when
ordered through the Diizche Safari Adventures website. To order this

Clifton Wins Michigan Duck Stamp Contest
Sam Houston Duck Co.
Houston, TX --(Ammoland.com)- It’s been a good year for duck stamp
artist Richard Clifton. Since October 2009, the wildlife artist has won
three state duck stamp prizes, making this year a bright spot in an
already illustrious career.
“It’s still a hoot to win,” he said. “I don’t enter to get fourth.”
His latest victory, Michigan, was won with a lone drake mallard. Elegant
and understated, the composition is less ambitious than the descending
pair of pintail ducks that won him Colorado in March. In all fairness, he
found out about the contest two days before the deadline.
Making a tight squeeze even tighter, Clifton was helping his wife, Terri,
prepare for an annual 5K race she hosts as director of the Chad Clifton
Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises money for wounded
soldiers.
Terri told him to paint. “You can’t wait for optimum
conditions to succeed,” she said.
He started at 6 a.m., Thursday, July 22, cutting and prepping the board.
As the gesso dried, he drove to Rehoboth Art & Framing and ordered his
matting. By Friday afternoon, the painting was on its way to the
Michigan Duck Hunter’s Association in Midland, Mich.
Two weeks later, he sat in his gallery, knowing they’d be judging the
paintings that evening, waiting for a call. When none came, he shrugged
it off and returned to the house to watch TV. Terri came home a few
hours later. Checking her email, she said to Clifton: “You didn’t tell me
you’d won Michigan.”
“I didn’t know,” he said. The call had come minutes after he
went inside.
Though he’s been painting for more than three decades, he never gets
tired of winning, he said.
“Within the last year, I’ve won three, finished second in one
[North Carolina] and got two top fives [Delaware,
Oklahoma],” he said. “If you were a race car driver, you’d be
having a pretty good year.”
He’s hoping to extend his good fortunes. A reference photo was pinned
to a lamp above his easel for this year’s Oklahoma contest, which he last
won in the early ’90s. His reputation as a painter is well established by
now – especially after he won the Federal Duck Stamp prize in 2007 –
but Clifton isn’t one to rest on his laurels. Every year brings a new crop of
hungry young artists, he said, several of whom are very good.
“It only takes one to beat you,” he said. “But it gets tougher
when there are several good ones.”
The fresh competition only fuels him, he said; it makes him hungrier.
Clifton said he’ll be eligible to enter the Federal Duck Stamp Contest
once again in 2011. He grinned at the prospect.

The Conservation Tour of Duty focuses on ensuring access to public
lands and outdoor spaces through restoration and improvement
volunteer events. Conservation of public lands is critical to ensuring that
future generations of hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts have
access to traditional recreational pursuits like hunting and fishing.
According to a General Accounting Office (GAO) report, more than 50
million acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest
Service (USFS) have inadequate access. Through its Conservation Tour
of Duty, Outdoor Channel Corps is determined to dramatically improve
accessibility and restore our cherished public lands.
Outdoor Channel Corps’ first Conservation Tour of Duty will kick off by
deploying volunteers on National Public Lands Day, September 25th,
2010, to a total of eight local markets across the U.S. The network will
lead the charge in restoration and improvement projects in partnership
with various cable affiliates.
“Outdoor Channel has always been a leader in conservation
and related philanthropic initiatives. Outdoor Channel Corps
leverages our network’s unique ability to mobilize our
passionate viewers to make a difference in their
communities,” said Denise Conroy-Galley, Senior Vice
President of Marketing and Research for Outdoor Channel.
“Our Conservation Tour of Duty aims to restore and improve
access to public lands – a critical step in ensuring that the
outdoor lifestyle continues to thrive well into the future. We
look forward to working with our affiliate partners to
encourage communities to take a more active role in
preserving the great outdoors for generations to come.”

Take Me Hunting, Take MeShooting Campaign LaunchedSEP 09, 2010 10:59A.M.
Task Force 20-20 Launches ‘Take Me Hunting, Take Me
Shooting’ Campaign with Support from NSSF
Take Me Hunting, Take Me Shooting Campaign Launched
National Shooting Sports Foundation
NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- Task Force 20-20, the
committee formed at the NSSF Shooting Sports Summit to evaluate
opportunities to grow hunting and the shooting sports, will begin testing
its first initiative—a coordinated marketing effort in selected states
designed to reactivate lapsed hunters and shooters.
The Task Force 20-20 steering committee has approved piloting the
“Take Me Hunting/Take Me Shooting” campaign this fall. The National
Shooting Sports Foundation, trade association for the firearms,
ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry, will fund the effort
out of a $500,000 overall commitment to support several Task Force 20-
20 plans to aggressively promote hunting and shooting.
The Take Me Hunting/Take Me Shooting campaign will prompt inactive
hunters and shooters to rediscover the fun and excitement of these great
pastimes and to answer a higher calling—to mentor a new generation of
sportsmen and women. In this way, veteran sportsmen and women can
mold their legacy by developing new ambassadors for the shooting
sports, new conservationists and new supporters of the Second
Amendment.
The pilot states are South Carolina, Alabama and New Jersey.
“Together NSSF and state agencies will make a strong appeal
to formerly active hunters and shooters and remind them
how important it is to share their passion for the outdoors
with a newcomer or a novice,” said Chris Dolnack, senior vice
president of NSSF.
“The choices in recreational activities today are abundant. A
personal invitation from someone well qualified to be a
mentor is one sure way to provide a safe and fun introduction
to what could become a lifetime activity.”
Through the use of print ads, direct mail and a hub website,
www.takemehuntingandshooting.com, the Take Me Hunting/Take Me
Shooting campaign will promote the winning message that mentors are
sorely needed, that mentors’ hunting and shooting skills makes them
well suited to provide an introduction to these activities, and that
hunting and shooting can be enjoyed with families and friends.
This strategy to build participation in hunting and shooting relies on the
powerful ability of state agencies to communicate with sportsmen and
women who once purchased hunting licenses but have not done so in the
last several years. The approach was one of the priority actions
recommended in the “Future of Hunting and the Shooting
Sports—Research-based Retention and Recruitment Strategies,” a
report presented at the Shooting Sports Summit in 2008. It’s also an
approach that has been used by the fishing community with success.
“I want to commend the National Shooting Sports
Foundation for taking the lead in bringing together the states,
industry and NGOs to address recruitment and retention of
hunters and recreational shooters,” said John Frampton,
director of the South Carolina Department of Natural
Resources.
“The funding provided through the excise taxes on hunting
and shooting firearms and ammunition is the lifeblood of
state fish and wildlife agencies. The future of hunting and
shooting may well rest on our ability to work together to
ensure that hunters and shooters remain engaged in our
sports.”

The campaign will be evaluated during the winter months to determine
how effective its messages were in motivating shooters and hunters to go
afield or to the range again.
The steering committee of Task Force 20-20 also plans to launch a
Models of Success program focusing on states that have programs
proven to deliver an increase in participation. Such programs can be
enhanced, expanded and promoted through a marketing campaign
funded by NSSF.
The results of these and other Task Force 20-20 initiatives will be
discussed at the next NSSF Shooting Sports Summit, which is scheduled
for June 2011.
About NSSF
The National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the
firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve
hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a
membership of more than 5,500 manufacturers, distributors, firearms

California Conservation Projectsto Receive RMEF GrantsSEP 09, 2010 10:46A.M.
California Conservation Projects to Receive RMEF Grants
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
MISSOULA, Mont. --(Ammoland.com)- Wildlife conservation and
public education projects in 16 California counties–including a 339-acre
land acquisition in Santa Clara County to conserve habitat and
eventually open public access east of San Jose, Calif.–have been selected
to receive grants from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in 2010.
The new RMEF funding, totaling $229,425, will directly affect Del Norte,
Fresno, Humboldt, Kern, Merced, Modoc, Monterey, Placer, Plumas, San
Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Clara, Shasta, Tehama, Trinity and
Tuolumne counties.
Several projects also have statewide interest.
The 339-acre acquisition, called the San Antonio Valley II project, is
historic habitat for an area herd of more than 200 tule elk. In 2006,
RMEF and partners permanently protected 2,900 adjoining acres in
danger of residential development. Today those lands are a state wildlife
management area. The San Antonio Valley II project will expand that
area in the future. RMEF is holding the property until the state can
gather funding to reimburse RMEF and take title.
The Nature Conservancy and The David and Lucile Packard Foundation
provided key support for the project.
Still, San Antonio Valley II almost didn’t happen when funding from
another source fell through. RMEF steered $95,000 in volunteer-raised
funds to keep the project alive. This grant was the largest of 23 awarded
in California this year.
“All of these grants are possible because of the successful
banquets and fundraisers staged over the past year by our
California volunteers–most of whom are elk hunters as well
as devoted conservationists,” said David Allen, RMEF
president and CEO. “Since 1984, our annual grants have
helped complete 390 different projects in California with a
combined value of more than $23 million.”
