Held on 13th and 14th May 2017 at the Setia City Convention Centre, Shah Alam, the inaugural event aracted the participation of 11 MAA members companies. About 20,000 visitors aended the 2-day event. A whopping 2,307 test drives were conducted and 251 bookings were received by the exhibitors during the show. Strongest performer was the MPV segment which saw a hefty 49.9% (13,681 units) jump compared to the first half of last year. A historic milestone was reached on 13th June 2017 when the millionth Perodua Myvi rolled off the produc-tion line in Rawang, making it the most produced Perodua model since its introduction in May 2005. A special “line-off” ceremony at its manufactur-ing facility in Sungai Choh, Rawang was officiated by Perodua Auto Corpo-ration Sdn Bhd (PCSB) President, Mr. Masanori Takahashi and PCSB Vice President, YBhg. Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

“The Perodua Myvi has set a new standard for us in terms of products offerings as well as customer expecta-

tions and it is our benchmark for all our future models,” said Perodua Presi-dent and Chief Executive Officer, YBhg. Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh. “We are cautiously optimistic of achiev-ing our 202,000 units sales target for this year despite the continued tough and challenging market condition,” he added.

In terms of exports, the Myvi was sold in six countries since 2006, which include Mauritius, Brunei, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Fiji and Nepal under the Perodua brand. Myvi’s big-gest export market is Indonesia under the Daihatsu Sirion brand with nearly

HRH SULTAN SELANGOR OPENS PERODUA MOSQUEHis Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj, the Sultan of Selangor, officiated on 12th May 2017 Masjid Perodua, the first Masjid to be built by a corporate entity in the Hulu Selangor district.

“Masjid Perodua can accommodate a total of 3,000 worshipers at any given prayer and was designed with functionali-ty and efficiency in mind,” Perodua Chair-man, YBhg. Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin said. “In total, we have invested RM39 million for the Masjid, Perodua Child De-velopment Centre and connecting road for the benefit of our staff and the commu-nity,” he added. He also waqaf (endowed) the Masjid to a state religious body rep-resented by the HRH Sultan of Selangor.

DRB-HiCOM Berhad (the Group) signed the Definitive Agreement on 23rd June 2017 for China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (ZGH) to take 49.9% equity in Ma-laysia’s first carmaker, PROTON Holdings Berhad (PROTON). On the same day, the Group also sold its entire stake in Lotus Advance Technology Sdn. Bhd. to ZGH and Etika Automotive Sdn. Bhd. The sign-ing took place exactly 30 days after both parties signed a Heads of Agreement on the deal in Putrajaya.

The signing was presided over by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, along with DRB-HICOM Chairman, Brig. Gen. (K) Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil and ZGH Chair-man, Mr. Li Shufu. DRB-HICOM Group Managing Director, YBhg. Dato’ Sri Syed Faisal Albar signed on behalf of the Group while Mr. An Conghui, President and CEO of Geely Auto Group signed for ZGH. Also present was Chinese Ambassador to Ma-laysia, HE Dr. Huang Huikang.

“ZGH, which also owns Sweden’s Vol-vo Cars, The London Taxi Company and the Geely car brand, is the right partner for PROTON. Their success with Volvo and The London Taxi Company, and of course their own Geely marque shows their capa-bility both as a bona-fide carmaker and as a partner. Data from ASEAN Automotive Fed-eration (AAF) shows that the region sold 2.1 million passenger cars in 2016, up by 85% against 2007 sales. PROTON will be-come the right hand-drive hub for Geely in ASEAN.

MaN Truck and Bus (M) Sdn. Bhd. (MTBM) announced on 26th April 2017 it has signed an agreement with MARA Liner Sdn. Bhd. to expand the existing fleet of myBAS Perlis as well as provide after sales service. The new MAN buses are based on the MAN 14.280 HOCL two-axle chassis which were produced in cooperation with a local body manu-facturer.

The signing ceremony between MTBM and MARA Liner and the hand-over of the 27 units of MAN A80 City buses were held at MARA Liner Perlis, in the presence of YB Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Syed Hamid Bin Syed Jaafar Albar, the Chairman of SPAD, and witnessed by representatives of myBAS Perlis.
